Destiny |OT7| "In the Garden of Suros" by I. Ron Banner

I still haven't played Destiny since I beat the story and the last regular strike mission. Destiny is a game I want to love, but it needs some work. I'm optimistic it will get there, though.

After a week or so off from it, I don't think I'll play a lot more until some good solid updates hit, or perhaps the DLC. The core gameplay is good, but the missions and their structure are far too similar; I grew weary of them well before the end of the story.

There's plenty of content, but not enough variety to hold my interest. I find the bosses in the strikes (and even regular missions) to largely be exercises in tedium, really not fun at all. While strikes can be fun up to the point, knowing they all end that way has kept me away.

The loot grind holds absolutely no appeal to me, as I need more interesting things to do while I grind. I hope Bungie has recognized this and really steps up their mission design with the DLC. We shouldn't scan something and then deal with waves of enemies even once.
I'm looking forward to the update that boost our damage against bosses and reduce the health of bosses for this very reason.

As for as the loot system...what I want right now is to be better rewarded. Buying equipment isn't very satisfactory to me. I want to get it through a strike or completing a daily heroic.

The end game is still very awful. By no means better in any sense of the word.

-legendaries drop even less than they did before
I'm not totally convinced of this; legendary engrams are certainly more rare, but always equal a legendary+; blue engrams are slightly more likely to yield legendaries. I wouldn't be surprised if the overall rate of legendary item drops is exactly the same as before.

I.e.: not at all dependable, fuck engrams get money.
-there is no incentive to lvl up rahool anymore. If there is, bungie hasnt explained it.
There never was. Please listen closely.

Leveling up Rahool just got you more engrams. Giving engrams to Rahool levels him up. When you level him up you get more engrams. You can give this to Rahool which will help level him up. When you level him up you get more engrams. Giving these engrams to him will level him up. As a result of this, he will give you more engrams. These engrams will in turn level him up.

Stop expecting more of him. He's a dick. A slot machine personified.
-there is no explanation as to why some people are only seeing energies and not shards. Is it because of a variable in their class or gear? What is it?
Lol, I think this would be answered with the phrase "random chance"
- there is no reason to do an event when you shoukd be spending time with dailies and weeklys
What do you mean by event?

Well, time to figure out what to do while waiting for servers to go back up.

I downloaded Halo Reach from the xbox live gold thing just before my sub ran out, so I'm toying with the idea of playing that.....but....I dunno man. Kinda just wanna play Destiny now.

Might just stare at the wall for a few hours and contemplate life.

Damn, OT7! Thread got locked when I was writing this reply. Don't mind this, it's just another complaint about the loot system!

I mostly play PVP, and I like the idea of Iron Banner making your loot more useful (though I'm happy it's not the main PVP mode). I would like to be able to get to 30 through IB if the armor defense levels mattered a lot (they don't seem to *that* much, although I haven't fought any 30s before the servers went down yet). I don't think having a 30 light path for PVP is that important though, as you said the only content that requires that level is the raid. Considering I'll probably never play the raid, I don't need to be level 30.. but if there was an alternate path to 30 that aligned with the part of the game I do play, that would be nice.

I understand that people don't want to trivialize the raid rewards. Fundamentally though I just wish the game had way more rewards in general. Every time I play with my friends they're bummed out because they feel like we wasted an hour doing strikes or something for no reason. My friend is level 23 or 24 and every time he gets a legendary engram it's for a different class. Getting a couple of shards isn't exciting. I feel like my friends are on the verge of quitting the game (although I think they're complaining a bit prematurely -- the horrible grind doesn't really start till 25 or 26 imo). So yeah, I'm not exactly dying for 30 light armor drops. But why not drop legendary weapons a little more frequently just so I have some new stuff to play around with. The various weapons are cool but the differences between them are subtle for the most part, so finally getting a better weapon after a long grind/ lucky drop isn't always that exciting. I've gotten some good drops and earned good gear as well, but these moments are far and in between. If they happened a little more frequently I think it would only make the game better. It shouldn't upset the game's balance. It's not like you just trivialize PVE damage if you can upgrade your armor.

The strikes and patrol missions to me are becoming barely tolerable. I'm glad they upped the rewards slightly but you can still play the same missions for hours and get nothing of real value. Farming chests is legitimately more fun when you are doing it with some friends but I still wish I had a chance of a relic iron drop on a Mars Crucible match, for instance. It's taking forever to go from 27->28 so I can start doing Nightfalls, and the only way to get there is to play the worst parts of the game over and over.

So yeah, I want more rewards in general but in the Crucible in particular because that's what I mostly play. I don't need to get an exotic weapon every day. But give me something more often to keep it fresh. I wanna see green icons when I go back to the Tower!

Well ya it is just plain common sense Crucible should take us up to 30. I don't want to get raped by L30s on my L28 main. Oh wells Drive Club just released and it seems fun. Will backburn Destiny for a bit.

Pretty depressing seeing how Warcraft solved this many years ago.

That looks like a death wish to me. Any of those fools with a nova bomb/fist of havoc could have popped your bubble like it was nothing.

But they didn't! I usually get a few kills from popping WoD on a control point.

Always some motherfucker trying to ice skate uphill fist fight inside the Ward of Dawn.

But none of them had their supers up, you can tell because none of their level numbers were glowing.

(I just learned that yesterday, thanks GAF!)

Now that I think about it, Gunslinger might be the best option for Iron Banner instead of taking the risk of dashing at shottys

Is the new Nightfall solo-able? I need to do the bounty for 200 Fusion rifle kills and last weeks was a no-go.

I'm a level 27 Hunter BTW.

Yeah, after a few hours in the iron banner it becomes pretty apparant that a blue auto rifle just isn't the same as all the suros regimes that'll hit you all the time.

I really need to find me a good auto rifle soon....

PS4 Raid or Iron Banner Crucible group

Any Gaf Guardians want to group up for the Raid or Iron Banner crucible when the servers go back up? I can finally get some drops from the raid since the reset, Bungie really needs to rethink their incentives for players that help others a second time. Id prefer players atleast 28 and have experience with the raid. Anyone that's interested let me know on here or send me an invite on PSN.

Suros.

I wish I had that gun. Anyway I say that because I ended up with a shotgun from the raid that performs muuuuch better than the invective. Doesn't fire quite as fast but holy damn does the impact actually have some substance and it also fires in full auto.

Damn. All this time I didn't know you could switch from heavy weapon to special by double-tapping Triangle.

I'm honestly feeling no difference in time to kill or time to be killed when in iron banner, I'm 29 using the epilogue and when shooting lower levels only adds maybe 1 damage per bullet, a level 21 with a green shingen still kills me in the same time too. Feels like a bit of a waste of time tbh

Come home from work, Destiny servers are down....

What am I doing? My life feels so empty all of a sudden? What is the purpose of life? Why are we here?

People who still play this are pretty desperate, aren't they? Dunno but grinding so much is atrocious, I haven't touched the game for weeks, one of the most disappointing new IPs of all-time right after Diablo 3. But I'm not sure they will be able to make it better with patches, the base game had too much shit, you can repair it but the foundation is still broken.

I'm a bit surprised there's still people interested in a game that has everything worthwhile blocked behind stupid grinding and repetitive maps / bullet sponges / uninteresting objectives. But I guess some people are trying to get their value back by investing numerous hours into a lifeless grind full of clichés and bad sci-fi.

You are so much better than all of us. I am jealous of you.

Nah. WoD is pretty legit, people aren't too keen on supering it just yet. It's comical how many people will walk into your shotgun while you're sitting in the glowing purple bubble. Comical... and sad.

Just got the game this past weekend, and I've hit 18 with my first character. I'm on Mars, and can't wait to get to get to the end-game stuff.

I just wanted to say that, so far, this game is much better than the reviews/podcasts make it out to be. I fully reserve the right to complain once I get into the real grind, but I've had a blast with my first 10-12 hours.

Thanks doc. We were all dying to know how much we're wasting our time playing a game we enjoy. Thread exit's that way.
In an ideal world, this shit would earn you a warning. I don't know if it does on here. I do know that you pull this crap on even 4chan, and people will jump down your throat and throttle you from within.

Might be because the epilogue is pure trash in PVP. Impact is way too low.

If they pop it and nobody dies, then I see it as a small victory as they waste their super.

I've killed the people inside as well a bunch of times.

It's weirf that people haven't caught on. When I see it get dropped I just lol and walk away.

Sweet, new OT.

My mates and I are planning on making a first attempt at the raid tomorrow. We only have 3 people all together though. Are there any PS4 gaffers that haven't already done the raid that would be up for trying it tomorrow at around 4pm British time? We're looking for people that haven't done it before because we want to try and work everything out without guides or assistance from an experienced raider. Add/message me on PSN if you're interested (name is the same as here: SeriuzBiznus ).

I am worried about maxing my Shadow Price until Bungie releases the exact thing they are doing with ARs. Ass energies don't come for free.

I'm sorry that I like something that you don't. Fuck me, right?

On topic, how does the Grim Citizen stack up in Iron Banner? I've been doing really well with the Red Death. 3 shot kills on higher levels, 2 shot on same level and below.
