Destiny Reveal Thread

Do you even bother reading replies after posting, or are you only interested in shilling for your friend's site?

I of course read replies, I just caught up on them, my Internet connection has been super wonky. And I normally don't like being a shill for anything, but alas, friendship requires you to do things you may not like to.. I also should have done my research before posting it. I take responsibility for that. Apologies.

I feel sorry for the journalists who felt like they wasted their weekend preparing for a trip which ultimately turned out to be less of a reveal than they had expected. But I also feel that Bungie has done a pretty good job of communicating what to expect from the game, and for something which might not even be released this year, I have a fairly good idea of what sort of experience they want to deliver, and the art and concept seems rock solid. Will the game actually deliver on the potential? Who knows. But for now I'm interested in the title, and I don't think waiting for more details in the future is going to kill me.

Pretty much my thoughts. Also that art is amazing. Some of the in-motion scenes looked great too, only one or two that looked so-so.

A brand new universe from Bungie is super exciting, and I like what I see so far.

I've never been a fan of Halo, so I don't have any hype for this game. It looks well made and all, but one thing I find kind of funny is how the guns look like the guns we have today. If this is some crazy future or alien scenario, why do the guns look pretty much the way they do now? Shouldn't they have some sort of miniaturized energy weapon technology or something? It's like they have to include guns because their demographic is obsessed with guns.

Well, you should definitely tell your friend about how that part of the source code works, so he can fix the article, unless of course he likes getting hits based on inaccuracies! (I would hope not!) :)

my body is so ready..

be curious to see, since we've got supposed rumor-confirmation of a next-gen appearance of this game as well, what the graphical differences between the two gens side by side are.

either way. i want this now

The promise of out of "earth" exploration/travel has me more excited than anything. Even if they can't fully deliver it, it is still nice to have in some form. More games need that!

One of the biggest issue with how little was actually revealed today was that most of the big bullet points were already covered via leaked info in the past. Mix that with the press not really going hands on at all and it just kinda feels like a let down. Hopefully they have more soon, maybe some gameplay shots, because we know nothing about how it plays other than it being a FPS.

Battlefield 3 sold 17+million copies.

Halo did not.

Halo is nowhere near "the biggest thing" anymore. CoD, FIFA, LOL, and BF say hi.

for something that's only released on one system , xbox, its done pretty well.. Imagine if it were allowed to go to PC/PS/etc ... ... ahhh "destiny"

I definitely will do. Thanks for all the info. We definitely don't want to propagate misinformation.

Sounds like a sort of Mass Effect MMO. Interesting, but i'd only consider a next gen version, and it'd take more than just this to make me plunge into one of the next gen consoles. Hopefully it's not quite as dumbed down as Halo.

with the way things have been going i think microsoft let bungie go not bungie left microsoft. i dunno just how things have been going i get a vibe that ms didnt want bungie anymore

What makes you say that? Bungie felt they'd make more money selling to multiple install bases and were probably bored being tied to the Halo franchise.

If only we knew the truth and would not need to make assumptions based on personal preference of games and studios.

not sure if anyone noticed but it mentions infinity in the vidoc (rumored next xbox name ) is this just a coincidence ? or ms being subtle ?

Who says that's what i was basing it on? Would you want to be stuck looking at nothing but Halo for an entire decade, every working day of your life?

Keep in mind this is the reveal. Yes we've known about it forever now unofficially but Bungie just literally confirmed its existence like a month ago. Maybe they should have adjusted the marketing plan based on the leaks but I doubt Bungie really gives a fuck because it's going to get attention anyway. I'd expect something more in depth at E3 anyway.

I do wish that as a reveal of a game, they had used some game engine assets to unveil it. Those early Halo teasers always end up biting them on the ass a little because the final game often varied wildly from what was shown, but it's respectable that they went to that level; this, they're showing just art and it's a bit of a letdown after years of knowledge of the project, tons of leaks, and a good amount of lead-up to this reveal. I can respect a teaser campaign (lots of people gripe when the tease shows no gameplay, but even that has its place in the build-up plus here at least they talked about gameplay unlike something totally misleading like the awesome-but-unfair Dead Island teaser,) but a little bit of engine showcase would have gone a long way.

If they were tired working on it for a decade, why are they doing the same thing now? Having a contract for 10 years working on the same franchise?

I know but is this knowledge that Bungie were "tired" of working with MS and the Halo franchise?

Bungie was far more constrained under MS. They wanted more creative freedom, and more ownership rights over their own IP. With this project, that's what they have. So a 10 year contract under these current circumstances works out just fine for them. Otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to the terms and made the contract.

I am a bit confused as to what the game is actually trying to be. Need to see more of the world and understand how the game exactly works.

If this basically a MMOFPS? Or more like a Diablo 2 type implementation for a FPS (solo, co-op, always online and in this case multiplayer?)
