Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

I played about 30 hours of Destiny at launch and traded it in. I've forgotten how the game even works. Does TTK do a good job of reintroducing me? I'm downloading it right now.

All the words and terms I'm reading in this thread sound overwhelming and confusing (marks, motes, wut?)

I was in the same boat. I didn't play anything after a few hours of vanilla Destiny. A couple of weeks back, I decided that it was time to get back into it. I had seen a lot of cool stuff that was happening, and happening soon, that changed my mind about the game. It was pretty overwhelming at first, but I managed to get into it pretty quickly. It was all pretty straight forward, and I think that's even more true in Year 2. The updates a pretty significant, and make things easier for newcomers.

As for all of the terms, it's much more simplified now. Bungie streamlined a whole lot of the currency, reputation and currency.

DestinyGAF was a big help when I had questions about weapons, or defeating certain enemies. Even now, I've yet to run my first raid, but there's a user in the community thread that hosts raids for newbies, so, I might take him up on that offer soon.

Now is the best time to get into the game.

For sure. I was thinking of finally playing something other than my Hunter when this came out, but it's going to be a while before I entertain that idea. So much stuff to do. Also, we got to team up again sometime (MrJellyBean here. Not sure if you remembered my GAF name). I'm sure I'll be on all night again. Good to be hooked on Destiny again.

Heck yeah we were doing stuff all day yesterday. Harder court of oryx is crazy.

OK Gaf, you are tempting me.

I am a digital owner of the OG Destiny game with no expansion packs. What is the most cost effective way for me to play The Taken King, understanding I need the two prior expansions also.

Titan bubble?

I still hate "objectives" like this... this is not the kind of thing I want to need to do to progress in a game...

"Go to _____, kill _____" Much better...

you can survive if you are not too close to it and kill them one at a time.

I was so use to my Titan Defender punching though shit and getting a blue glow shield
this new subclass I got with the hammer is cool but he dies easy very easy

maybe I am playing it too much like a Defender thinking I am safe smh

How so? I´m interested.

Sorry, I'm not going to write an essay for you.
If you are actually interested you should read a couple pages of this thread or the one on the main gaming side.
TTK is getting good reviews and is getting a lot of love from the general gaming community.

Coming back after not playing for about 6 months... I have no frickin clue what to do. I pretty much just turned it off and will try to figure it out this weekend.

Order any day of the week. Pick them up the following Wednesday (Armsday).

Thanks Ghal!

Awesome, now I got one more destiny day of activities: Tuesday (NF/Weekly), Friday (Xur) and now Wed (Armsday). I predict this game will eventually have activities each day of the week requiring me to constantly manage it. This isn't a bad thing per se. :)

Give up because the endgame activities is still the same as base game and the story mission is only last around 7 hrs. After that you are back to doing bountries on patrol missions and daily quests.

Have you played the Taken King through the main campaign? Your post implies no, because otherwise you would know this is not true. Which means you should probably not be answering questions for people asking about it.

I don't think I've played all the new PvP maps yet but from what I've seen so far it looks like Bungie went out of their way to make them all Blink unfriendly. A lot of levels with a mix of open spaces and/or low ceilings or vertical jumps.

Can't say I'm disappointed, even though I do like using blink sometimes.

Game is not doing a good job of putting players together in patrols though.

How am I the only person on Venus?

You may have a restricted NAT, but it's pretty obvious right now that a lot of people are mainlining the Dreadnaught. I was finally able to do the Hive loop undisturbed on Earth :V

What is the point of abandoned quests that we already completed nearly a year ago? One of these things can't even be abandoned. What are you doing, Bungie?

After you hit 40 why they keep a level progress bar on the hud? It has a light symbol? I must have filled it 10 times I see no benefit about it be feel a little salty that I would be level 50 by now if it kept count

I am loving TTK! The main campaign only took me about 4-5 hours to beat but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is still so much to do! I just did Varicks' quest line and that took me almost as long as the main campaign! I still have so many quests left to do :)

To replay the story that has been restructured without having to create a new character.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!

You get a mote of light every time it fills. At least that's how it worked pre-2.0.

Not to mention that the main problem outside of the amount of content in vanilla was the loot and leveling system being extremely unfriendly to the player, meaning it could be prohibitively difficult to acquire the gear you wanted or to level your character appropriately for content. We'll still need to see how things really shake out when people get more time at the end game, but it seems that problem has been directly fixed so far, which means the base experience of acquiring loot in a loot game should be much less aggravating, and leveling a much more natural progression.

One question I couldn't find by casually browsing through here:
Is there any point in doing public events anymore?

It used to give out vanguard marks and postmaster would give an extra gift like Strange coin or similar, but now I get nothing of importance, a few glimmer or so...

Best Buy with GCU. The disc is just the base game so everything else is on a card with a code.

I checked it on my console and ran the multiplayer test and it shows all is well.
Maybe that improves it.

But to add to that....
I've seen several guardians out in the wild just leave the area when the Taken show up. Level 40, 220+ light. And they just leave.
Are they afraid of getting some new gear?

Why are you on patrol if you don't plan on fighting the enemies that appear while you are on patrol?

It's taking so long to download this destiny update (didn't have ps4 on in a while) :(
Started about an hour and a half ago and says about 80 hours left, even when restarting ps4 etc

What's everyone's opinions on the new subclasses so far? I've unlocked all 3 for each character and I am not sure which one I'd like to use first. I have the exotic class items that give me 25% extra XP for the new classes so leveling isn't too much of an issue.

I might just wait until the raid comes out to see what is most useful in a support setting. Learning towards Nightstalker for the suppression, invis, orb generating/recovery and armor at the moment but it isn't very fulfilling for solo play compared to the others.

So I got to rank 2 with the gunsmith and it let me order another weapon, but I got the Suros scout in my package when I ranked 2, the same one I ordered this morning >.<

So does the rank dictate how many you can order? I wonder if should discard my suros scout order and buy something else?

Honestly, I'm not really liking Nightstalker so far, but to be fair I don't have it fully upgraded yet so I can't speak authoritatively. But so far, specifically in PVP, I'm having trouble figuring out optimal ways to use the first two grenades, the smoke "melee," and the super. It's a big change from the guaranteed kill of a perfect sticky or throwing knife to the face, or a guaranteed three/four shots with golden gun.

It seems like The Dark Below Quest Progression has been broken by Taken King, anyone else noticing this? I just completed Omnigul as part of the progression, and now there is nothing Dark Below related to do quest wise.

Did you kill the evil crystal? If so that's the end. Well the omnigul strike is the end as well.

Yeah I plan on sticking with GG or BD for any PvP I do. The guaranteed kill supers will always seem to be way to go in PvP.

I wonder if they didn't want to make the raid a quest..?

Is there a Vault of Glass quest?

Yep, total game changer from a gear progression standpoint.

I am enjoying the Nightstalker, but am still getting used to it. I'm finding the tether is pretty versatile: I use it to bind door ways, groups of enemies I want to shotgun (or rocket), as a get out of jail card when I'm in over my head, and to kill or damage large number of mid to lower level enemies. There are quite a few perks I want to unlock for me to really evaluate it. (I should note I only have played PvE.)

One aspect of the bow I need to work on mastering: it's the only super with really long range. I've over shot targets by a good 50 yards or more (in the case of one wizard I missed, it went so far into the map I barely saw it land, but it did). When I get that under control it's going to feel great to nail targets from long range, sight unseen, then barrel in for the clean up.

I miss being invisible, though. I think there's a smoke perk along those lines?
