Destiny's year one legendary gear isn't upgradeable in year two

Also its not really a surprise. If you now ascend a legendary it already says. Max level for year one. So i knew this was already happening since House of Wolves release.

Someone already said it, but welcome to MMOs. Gear becomes obsolete, and then you hunt for the new stuff. Do you really want to spend 5+ years using the same weapons and armor?

If I really like a weapon, what's wrong with using it for 5 years?

Just because it's become standard practice in other games, doesn't mean it has to be the rule.

I've never played an MMO before, so I'm not preconditioned to this obsoleting of loot.

What's wrong with letting me carry on with stuff I love while still chasing for the new stuff?

Yet, I have no problem replacing an item with a new one if it is better, so I hope they have better weapons and we aren't being forced to use mundane weapons going forward.

I don't understand why some of you are mad. Destiny has a 10 year plan"what" you guys thought you would be using fatebringer for 10 years without obtaining new guns lol

Because Fatebringer is that damn good and it's still the best and preferred legendary handcannon to use in PVE although TDB and HoW dropped. The firefly perk is too good.

If Bungie introduced a year 2 handcannon equal of Fatebringer then people are willing to shard Fatebringer.

Here's hoping they at least add new drops to the old raids, maybe by adding a new difficulty. Maybe the Templar will drop a handcannon called Fatetaker now.

Doesn't surprise me but does disappoint me. I want my Visions of Confluence forever...probably my favorite gun in Destiny.

They're going to need to change the existing raids weapons then, otherwise what is the point?

I've been calling for this, they needed to get rid of everyone just using the same VoG guns all the time. I was sick of using Fatebringer and VoC for high level content. It's a swift kick in the nuts to us collectors, but then again it should have been about the journey and not the rewards. We've had a whole year to play with those toys, give us new ones.

Well there was a screenshot somewhere of a handcannon with outlow and firefly. Showed up somwhere at E3.

I would hold off on throwing any year one weapons in the trashcan just yet. We still have a lot to talk about. Several Twitch events are planned to answer all of your questions and we will give you the full schedule as soon as the away team gets back from gamescom.

he posted in this very thread.

Oh sorry, didn't notice, the arrow return to original post button wasn't working for me for some reason, brand new GAF account too. And his first post on GAF. Nice!

You couldnt do that either when we got TDB.
And to be fair. You really want to use that gun for the next 10 years?

But I can from house of wolves although I haven't yet cos etheric light is so fucking hard to come by for a casual! Yes I would use it for the next ten years :P

Welcome to GAF - feel free to stop by the OT ;)

Hopefully Bungie has a solution that is more elegant than TDB.

SEE

This is my problem. Just making Replacements sounds like a WASTE.

I WANT NEW GUNS. Thats why the old ones should carry on so that they can get CREATIVE with the new stuff

Whats the point of Fatebringer +1? Just keep Fatebringer and stir the pot with something cooler

except the problem occurs when they make your old guns obsolete aNd ask you to do the long grind again for new copy-Pasta similar weapons that just do more damage. They didn't even change many of the gun models in TDB expansion. The new guns are too similar to the old guns.

Welcome Cozmo, looking forward to hearing follow-up from the team on the plans for Year 2. Safe travels to DeeJ and them!

The problem with this is that they're working with a pretty limited set of variables to create weapons.

How different can a year 2 hand cannon possibly be from a year 1? Maybe a different name and particle effect for what amounts to poison? There's only so many ways to dress up a shotgun before you start repeating yourself.

A lot of the clever or interesting stat/perk combinations have already been done so I'm afraid that most of the of 'new' weapons will either be retreads or will just be inferior in the name of being different.

Legendaries are as common as blues once you get to the end game content so I have no problem with this. As long as Exotics are upgradable I am a-ok. Need my Icebreaker/Helm of Saint-14.

Yah I have been saying this for a while now and just mentioned it again in the community thread.

They have to stop just making gun loot and start making other different methods of play. Instead of a gun you have a shield as a loot drop or a healing gun or something. Make actual roles in combat that will make you reconsider how you approach the game. Otherwise you'll just be comparing one gun for another gun and be wondering "do I want to kill enemies with burst fire or full auto?". That's not interesting loot decisions.

It is fine.

Butt seems like there is something they will reveal about that yet... so don't shard all your weapons yet.

This is pretty disappointing. Honestly one of the best things about the game currently is the breadth of content offered due to being able to upgrade everything to the max. It allows for a lot of diversity in builds across weapons and armor. I found it to be a really pleasant contrast to the typical MMO where a new expansion invalidates everything that came before.

Also, yeah... if they think I'm going to ditch everything in my vault to make room for this new stuff... well that just isn't going to happen. I'll just be de-incentivized to collect if my collecting habits are subsequently punished by the release of new content.

I do generally like the middle ground idea I've heard a few times where you'd be allowed to select a set number of weapons you want to bring along with you to the new cap, because I see the design challenge of continuing to offer new/diverse loot if you have to make something unique compared to everything that has ever existed.

Good. There was no other way. Literally the game's balancing would of continued to deteriorate, the meta would never change and therefore the game would stagnate otherwise. All of the people who are moaning about not being able to keep their gear clearly don't understand just how important this is. It actually has a chance to be interesting now. This is a small first step in addressing the many many problems the game has.

I hope they create new loot drops for the old raids. I still enjoy doing them but its always nice to get an elusive reward. I miss the days of praying for a Fatebringer. It made VoG a much better experience than now when I have all of the weapons I want.

It would be nice if they made some of the new weapons require the old weapons as material to get the new one. So like you need the fatebringer to craft this new weapon. Other than that why even have the old weapons or have access to them if they won't be worth anything

What happens if none of the legendaries live up to the previous ones? They have shown that they know how to make worst weapons but the best weapons in the game are from vault of glass.

I hope the new weapons are good but with the exception of one or two crota weapons, they have shown they have little clue how to make a good weapon plus it's just sad that now both vault of glass and crota end are useless when they are by far the best content in the game. Ideally the next raid will be fantastic though.

This isn't unlikely, so to speak.

Bungie seems to be trying to pull back on TTK (Time to Kill) so it's very possible that the average killing power of Taken King legendaries will be slightly weaker than their Year 1 comparisons.

I consider this a good thing.

Complete bullshit. Does Bungie think we have 12 hours a day to just grind on destiny for all new gear. I only just got to level 34 and now the level cap is 40 and all the armor I have is completely worthless.

a lower TTK is a good thing but shitty legenadaries is not. I really hope they have some amazing weapons in store.

Finally the fatebringer problem is solved.

Expected.

They forced this solution on them, their loot game mechanic is....not worth my time.

Adieu.

You are uneducateded. Read up on some of the changes destiny has had over the past 10 months. It'll help with participating in these discussions.

What exactly were you expecting?

So for someone who hasn't touched Destiny since last fall.

How much grinding would I have to do to get my level 23 character the equipment needed to do vault of glass?

Considering they though not adding checkpoints to PoE 35 was a good idea I'd say their stupidity knows no bounds.

Huge fan but I thought one of the main things was suppose to be that new players will look at older players guns and wonder how you got it. What distinguishes me from year 2 players other than the emblem.

You see the little II on the gun?

You should be able to pick 2 guns with no symbol (vanilla)

2 from Crota's End (I)

2 from HoW (II) and you can take them with you

Worst news to come out today. Slap in the face to year 1 grinders. Not sure if I am buying TTK even though I have way too many hours in Destiny Year 1 and I already collected everything.

Are you crazy? This is the best news I've heard all day related to gaming. No more final round snipers? No more plug ones with send it? No more field scout on guns it has no business being on? FFS Destiny balance is no longer a dream people it's a real possibility.

This seems like all of my purple gear in WoW being replaced with generic quest blues at the beginning of every new expansion, ever. Not a big deal.

Level up a faction to rank 3 and grind some rep points. All new vendor gear is light level 36 so even one new piece will bump you up a few levels. Even grinding crucible or tiger strikes might net you some rare gear that could help you level up.
