Devil May Cry 4 SE: Vergil, Trish & Lady Playable, Release Date 18th of June

Yeah, I was really hoping they'd give her Spiral, so that she'd be able to rep every firearm from DMC3 (sans Artemis). Giving her Free Ride and etc. would've been even better.

But ah, well. For her and Trish to be made in such conditions, and to give us a taste for what may be in store next time? They're still very nice.

In terms of mechanics I want to see expanded upon for DMC5 for those characters, I'd love to see more of Trish's electricity traps (someone's gonna figure out some really cool stuff to do with her lingering Killer Bee/Starfall lightning bolt move) and advanced Round Trip enemy pulling stuff (and I'd be very cool with her being the only character who can pull in multiple enemies at once like that).

As for Lady, she feels perhaps a bit less well-realized to me, but her general lack of emphasis on melee is probably more 'out there' than the Trish/Vergil/Dante/Nero formula. I feel like that also means I'll need to actually play with her to get a better sense of how to play her 'well.' What I'd like to see a lot of for Lady in DMC5, I think, is tons of great mobility and dodging options - what I picture as 'fun' Lady gameplay is basically the game forcing you to get up in the enemies' faces if you want to do real damage, but also allowing you to basically twirl and slide around them with ease in exchange for her relative lack of quick launchers and quick stunlock (though of course she can juggle already-launched enemies pretty competently).

Anyone know if they're keeping the mission ranking as it was? No news about changing the orb count back into working like in DMC3?

If I recall, in one of the Capcom-Unity streams gregaman said they made the dice game easier by making it easier to get the number you want. S maybe the die just rotates slower?

I remember trying to go back to DMC4 like a year ago and my save was currently on the dice game section. It was clear why I stopped playing at that point in the first place haha.

The dice game is funny, they knew damn well how annoying and tedious it was when they put in that Dante cutscene where he just destroys it.

I still think the backlash against the dice game is way over the top.

When you use the trick it's super simple and quick, and it just gives you a bit of a breather between two encounters. It's hardly offensive, I've seen way, way worse in an action game.

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.
Question. If i buy a Bluetooth dongle, I can use my DS3 with this right? No lag problems? I want to play in Big Picture mode.

The backlash is justified. Even with the trick the break in pace is awful. And you can't expect people to figure out the trick by themselves.

Oh man, I just installed ds4windows and messed around with the original DMC4 on pc, works flawlessly. This controller is so much more comfortable to me playing a DMC than the 360 one I was using.

June can't come soon enough

Game development is not linear, it's probable mission 19 was finished before they began working on Dante's levels

Well, maybe. But I still remember my disappointment to see I have to go through it again when I first played it ;) as that cutscene with Dante made me hope it was a one-time event. Good thing they didn't slap some Gyro Blade "puzzles" there while they were at it.

Yeah, it never bothered me either. I figured out the timing trick in my first or second playthrough, so I guess that helps quite a bit.

I was also never bothered by the red orb rank requirements, the platforming (okay, I was a little bothered by the platforming), the backtracking as Dante (I would have preferred different looking levels, but I mostly care about unique gameplay), or the timer in Bloody Palace.

I think the only things which bothered me in DMC4 were the generic combat music (which modding could easily fix anyway), and the fact that one bloody palace run is so darn time consuming (but I can't complain too much as they improved it drastically from DMC3). Oh, and the lack of playable Lady, but they're fixing that.

I can see now as much as I love this game, I'm not going to be able to Platinum this. The Bloody Palace No Hitter in the fight with Dante is already going to be a no-no.

I did a full bloody palace mode yesterday and I couldn't even beat Dante without taking damage by cheesing him. I'm a bit out of practice, but yeah, I don't see myself getting that achievement ever. I think it's neat they're going for a difficult achievement list though.

Super Dante > Pandora > Gunslinger > activate Devil Trigger > Triple Jump > spam circle

There, easy achievement

Yeah pretty much everyone is going to cheese that achievement with Super Dante/Vergil/Nero whatever. Not worth the effort of doing it legit.

"Skill Collector" trophies are pretty stupid - or, rather, it's stupid to have two of them. It's the same shared pool of Proud Souls, yo. Once you get one you get the other.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the super characters. I guess that would make a lot of bloody palace achievements ridiculously easy.

Lady and Trish won't have super versions and you won't be able to S rank anything with super versions, but yeah. They'll allow cheese of general completion achievements.

We have already seen Super Lady and Trish in that leaked footage.

Really? I thought Gregaman said that there were no super versions of trish or lady during the stream so I was assuming they used a debugged version. That's great if so. Super characters can be fun.

EDIT: Here's a link to the video with timestamp: https://youtu.be/hVTliLym1bU?t=49m9s

It's possible Gregaman was mistaken, but he clearly says that Trish and Lady do not have Super versions.

What to expect from Stream today with Dante? Since it does not change anything in the skills / dante weapons ... just tweak to start running with less time.

I never finished 3 and dint even play 2 but I did beat part 1 multiple times. Can I jump into this game without being confused or feeling I missed anything?

Missed anything in what sense? Story is fairly self-contained in 4, so little to no worries there. The combat is obviously way evolved since DMC1 and reminiscent of DMC3 more than anything else, though a lot of 4's design choices are referencing part 1 heavily (most notably enemies). You'll probably still feel confused when you get to play as Dante for the first time, lol. Vergil would probably feel more familiar to you if you played as him in DMC3SE, but Nero was designed with newcomers to the series in mind - and then there's two completely new playable characters. So I'd say you should be good to go.
Having never played 2 doesn't matter at all generally. Why didn't you finish 3 though? It's the one most similar to 4, after all.
