Devil May Cry 4 SE: Vergil, Trish & Lady Playable, Release Date 18th of June

People keep saying Platinum because they haven't seen what Itsuno and Neo_G can really do recently. I have the utmost faith.

Maybe their cinematics occur at the beginning and end of Dante and Nero's sections of the original story, instead of bookending the entire mode?

While I would definitely prefer this to not be the case, I think it's possible. Lady could be playable in the Nero sections (with grapple) and Trish could be playable in the Dante sections.

Trish and Lady playable?!?!?!

That's a good point. I was just thinking that making changes to the geometry of the levels would be a big deal, but in reality they could either cut segments entirely, or only slightly tune them and it would work.

But hey, even this is more than I was expecting, honestly. I fully expect Trish and Lady to be fully featured and unique. I really don't think they'd include them if they weren't.

No joke I'd literally take "lol here have a big old textured cube to jump on instead that has nothing to do with the level geometry." Speed me through anything that isn't sweet sweet combat plz.

Tbh I would like Kamiya to stay far, far away from DMC with his love for mini games, vehicle sections and other garbage in his games.

What HAVE they been doing the past 6/7 years. Dragons Dogma?

It was Dragon's Dogma after DMC4 and boy was the combat in that game glorious.

We have no idea what Itsuno and co have been working on since that game released in 2012 though, aside from maybe this SE. We assume/hope it's DMC5.

Interestingly, Lady is one of the only characters that can function as a model swap for Nero with no model alterations, while Trish works almost perfectly on Dante save for a few issues with Gilgamesh. Though hopefully they turn out to be a little more than just glorified costumes...

Didn't the original game basically do that by adding extra jump pads to Dante's levels?

Alright this one I will buy! Forget that other poser from DmC it's time for the original DMC cast and Dante to return!

Am I able to jump into DMC4 without playing the other ones? Always been intrigued by the series, but never committed to buying them the last two console generations.

Sure. Though I'd recommend giving the DMC HD Collection and DmC Definitive Edition a shot if you're able. DMC HD is directly related to DMC4, while DmC is a reboot/alternate retelling of DMC that's equally good.

Wow, I'm definitely in if they're adding Lady and Trish on top of Vergil being playable. Hopefully there's some more changes they've yet to reveal, but this purchase is basically a lock for me.

If you still have a PS3 or 360, I'd strongly recommend getting the HD Collection. It's dirt cheap, the games aren't too long, and both DMC1 and DMC3 are considered genre defining titles. DMC3 in particular easily rivals current action games.

Considering the inclusion of Vergil and Lady, I'd at least complete DMC3.

But I don't think you'd be all that lost if you decided to jump right into DMC4, honestly. You just owe it to yourself to play DMC3.

Sure but you would get more enjoyment out of it if you at least play Devil May Cry 3 first.

It's a great introduction to Dante and Vergil's characters and the combat system which was taken to another level in DMC4.

LADYYYY

always wanted to play as her. Always thought of cool ways her mechanics could work if she was playable, maybe they'll do something interesting.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't have my PS3 or 360 anymore, so I'll have to go with the DmC: Definitive Edition and maybe hope PS Now potentially gets the HD Collection.

DmCDE is basically a completely different series. You can pick it up if you're looking for an action game, but it won't help you get up to speed on anything DMC related.

too bad dragon's dogma will probably never get the real sequel it deserves but oh well, if they make more dmc I'm also ok with that too

So now the question is, will the console versions be 1080p?

Why wouldn't they? DMC4 ran incredibly well even on slower PCs of its time. PS4/XBO GPUs should be able to handle it at 1080p with no problem. Hell, I'd say that it's possible that they'll use MSAA 4x or so while still pulling 60 fps at full HD.

I'm really, really looking forward to seeing how this all turns out. DmC DE turned out really great, and it looks like they're going for a lot of content here. Obviously, they're not going to restructure the entire campaign for Nero/Dante, but the amount of work for new content is pretty great. I was always disappointed in how DMC3SE turned out, despite playing at Vergil and the inclusion of BP. So I'm very happy to see that they're adding in a number of features that can supplement. I mean we're having FIVE playable characters. That was on a number of people's (including my own) wishlist.

This truly is the best time to be a DMC fan.

Again, it's not directly related to core DMC, but DmC DE is still a great, great game -- but it won't get you up to speed for DMC4. Which is still OK, because DMC4 was a first for many back when it came out.

I think the roster of playable characters showing

Nero/Dante
Vergil
Lady/Trish

implies that Lady will be playable in Nero sections (Her grappling hook substituting for Devil Bringer) and Trish in Dante sections

Didn't get to see quite enough of how Lady and Trish are gonna play, but that split-apart-ghost-image move Vergil did looks awesome and it looks like he's got some crazy new air gameplay with Beowulf (or whatever his gauntlet and greaves weapon is). That spinning in midair thing. Man.

I´m hyped as fuck but..
"You can select those characters from Nero/Dante's missions after you clear them the first time."
Mmmm, does that mean no new levels? Just a character swap? Well,at least they have their own openings and endings, that´s good.
I really love the idea of playing like Lady except that i don´t like her dmc4 looks too much, give me dmc3 lady as an alternate costume and i´m happy.

Lady, who is a playable character for the first time in the series, has a fighting style that is conceptually quite different from that of the other DMC4 characters, with a special emphasis on firearms. Lady’s focus on long-range fighting will feel like a completely different way to take on the action.
When playing as Trish, you will see that she does away with weapon switching, and instead makes skillful use of the Sparda sword in a variety of ways that require the use of relatively few buttons. This again makes for a play style that will feel distinctly different from anything you’ve seen in the game until now.
“Legendary Dark Knight Mode,”a feature we were previously unable to include in the PS3 version, will be added to the game. This mode pits players against a tremendous number of enemies. Players will have to adjust their fighting style to adapt, making for a fresh gameplay experience for even long-time fans.

Ah, interesting.

Wonder if they will use some of Trish's stuff from that game as well.

I'm sure they will. It's a great evolution of her gameplay from DMC2, involving aerial mobility, traps, projectiles, and swapping between Sparda and hand-to-hand. Still, I hope they go even further with it.
