DF | Fallout 4 Switch 2 Review vs PS4/PS5/Xbox Series S

- Port "exceeds expectations"
- Low quality textures and pop-in present just like any other console version, however.
- 30/40/60 fps modes present in both docked and handheld mode
- No lag issues like Skyrim's launch version present here

- The only difference between the three modes is resolution, other visual features are identical
- Max DRS in all modes is 1440p to 720p, low bounds can make it look like vaseline smears, most notable in the 60fps mode
- Currently it does not support DLSS on Switch but Bethesda has mentioned an update will add it in the future

- The 30fps mode hits the 1440p target most often followed by mostly 1080p in the 40fps mode and 60fps can drop to 720p in stress areas when tested in Corvega Factory
- Portable can see further drops with lows of 504p in the 60fps mode in the same area
- No visual settings are cut compared between docked and portable. all shadows , LoD etc are identical.
- Image quality is the main difference in the modes and docked/portable.

- Switch 2 is identical to PS5/Series S in terms of texture and shadow quality and draw distances
- Foliage and buildings, however, see a cut in LoD and foliage draw distance to PS4 levels, where PS5 and Series S are higher
- In direct comparison to Series S, the resolution and IQ is lower in similar areas.
- Switch's 30fps Quality mode compares to Series S and PS5's 60fps mode in terms of IQ

- 'A bulk of the output' in initial areas hits 60fps, but going to other stress areas, and the Boston downtown area, drops frames and is generally 10~ fps behind Series S and PS5
- Corvega stress area runs around 40fps on Switch where PS5/Series S run around 53fps

- The 30fps mode is mostly locked and runs much better compared to PS4 where it drops from 30 constantly.

- 40fps has much better latency than 30 and much better IQ than the 60fps mode.
- World traversal can show traversal drops but on the whole it's still the 'ideal' way to play, an 'easy pick' on the best way to play when docked.

- Portable mode's 60fps is much more viable because of the screen's VRR support and is DF's preferred mode when playing this way.

It's crazy how shitty Bethesda is these days. They are churning out all these ports and they are all garbage. It's just embarrassing for anyone with any shame, but we are talking about Todd Howard here.

it's not the port that's garbage, it's the game that's garbage.
just remember how this ran on last gen consoles... it was a shit show of the highest order.

so this port is surprisingly good when keeping in mind how dogshit their engine is

I'm sure they will update it and add more to it like they did with it on the other systems. Great game for those looking to explore a massive world.

It's getting big patch soon with dlss so this is another pretty useless video. 🤷‍♂️

It will be interesting to see if they change any settings with the upcoming patch though I guess.

The biggest news for me here is that it drops in low 50s on PS5

oh yeah. the data streaming management was famously awful in this game.
on last gen the game originally could just pause randomly whe moving around.

I think that was mostly patched, but it still can easily drop below 20fps when moving too fast.

there's a reason even Stafield still has a loading screen when entering buildings.

I'm glad I was always waiting for a deep sale on this port. Talking about how the game will have DLSS post launch just makes the cash grab that much more fucked up.

This seems purely CPU limited, interesting test between consoles.

Yeah, can't wait to see what they are able to do with DLSS implementation. Hopefully they can increase resolutions across the board and keep (or improve) FPS in the process.

Low expectations?

"Framerate is KING! Clarity is next in the importance scale."

Take game that is heavily framerate dependent like DOOM Eternal…

30 FPS blurrovision…

"Dream Port! Amazing!!!!"

it's a Switch 2 port.
so the expectations are a port that's slightly better than the PS4 version.
and it's, slightly better than expected. probably thanks to faster storage and the slight CPU uplift making the really bad asset streaming issues of the PS4 less of an issue here.

Seems like the 40fps mode is the way to go here. 60 seems quite bad. I don't think even VRR would help here as it's more stuttering than framerate drops.
