DF: Playstation 5 Back Compat vs Xbox Series X, Ps4/Pro (Skyrim)

Richard was speculating that the reason the PS5 runs better is because it has the same 36 CU core count. Do we know if the XSX in BC mode uses all 52 CUs? Or is it limited to the X1X's 40 CUs?

Wasn't it said that the XSX in BC mode provides 12TFs of GCN power? I would assume that you would have to use all the CUs to obtain those results.

BUH BUH BUT DF IS PAID BY MS!@!!!#!@##

I have no interest in playing this game again, but definitely a nice boost for anyone still playing it on PS5. 4k/locked 60.

Not sure why Series X has dips. This should run at 60 pretty easily on both, I would have thought
Oh the straw man that the problem is they are accused of making results up.... Sure buddy. Must have missed the big letter video title announcing PS5's victory in a glowing winning light visible from a mile away even before seeing the video. Or the way that some in DF seem to exhibit a pattern where they have always a positive outloook and hope for PS5 and cynical doubt for Xbox ;). Oh, you got them good again!

It is thanks to seeing Leadbetter and Battaglia going between XSX good and bad news and PS5 good and bad news.
Xbox bad news end with a hopeful message, the news are admitted but tempered. PS5 good news are admitted but scrutinised and tempered with some caution.

time out!!!

Before misinformation is concluded by the op images.... neither is solid 60 they both go down as far as 43 FPS.

Okay now carry on.
While true, there is more to it than that. Ppl just need to watch the entire video.

Yes, you are correct.
It's this video to be exact.

This is why DF get hate on sometimes.
I don't know why, but the PS5 is definitely outperforming the XBSX.
DF should be breaking down the PS5 to see why, instead of TF, TF, TF.

Richard hinted at it in the video, though he conditioned when he said "in legacy titles" which he had no reason to do. High clock rate and less compute units just might be a better design.

They pretty much confirmed it in that video. Skyrim is using all those CUs. The only thing that Digital Foundry can say is that since the GPU is behaving like a GCN one it doesn't have access to all of RDNA2s features.

No surprise here, PS5 is on top like in most games.

Funny thinking about it. If the game is actually running in PS4 Pro BC mode, then the PS5 is only running at Pro clock speeds (2.13Ghz CPU/911Mhz GPU) and is still curiously outperforming the Series X somewhat in BC.

This is great to see a modder doing awesome work

But I don't think I could sit through that opening scene in Skyrim again

O.O

Nope I'm sure I can't.

Just wait for the modders to get their hands on the latest xbox tools and vrr before we declare a winner please.

That doesn't make any sense though. We are talking about 4TFs GCN outperforming 12TFs GCN. It really doesn't make any sense.

Correct me if I'm wrong but alot of this falls in line with what M1chl M1chl had said in the Hitman 3 thread. Obviously this game isnt a good example but whenever there are particle/smoke/transparency/foliage effects on screen the PS5 does alot better (and the xbox does better with pure resolution)

The fact a single modder did this and Bethesda didn't kind of pisses me off. It's less than a meg...
Honestly that's my main takeway from this.. Ik devs have to go through the QA process when making changes but they dont seem to do that either :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That's not how the PS5 BC really works, only select titles are limited to Pro Clocks.

I definitely don't believe the PS5 is mimicking a PS4 Pro with this game. The higher clocks and faster memory must be helping it out.
It's taking advantage of more efficient design. That's why when they patch in framerate unlocks, all PS4 games seem to hit 60. The CPU was a heel in the last gen boxes, and even a 2.13 clocked Zen2 would run circles around the Jaguar part.

Oh good, looks like PS5 wins this one so we won't have 40 pages of DF slandering and conspiracies.

No "A PS5 Advantage" in the title this time? 😛 😂

Jokes apart, I'm surprised that DF is now comparing fan-made mod performance on a 7th-gen game, instead of comparing console performance for No Man's Sky and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Man Skyrim is arguably my fave game of all time, so i'm super happy with these results as Skyrim will become everyones favorite game again, just like me!.

Dat PS5 raw power!

Shame Fallout 4 remains stuck at 30 on PS5. XsX winning there.

Should I play flat or psvr when I get to this?

If you have a PSVR, definitely give it a try! Unless you suffer from a lot of motion sickness, it'll be a fun experience.

Wait, I thought DF hated Playstation, and we're Microsoft shills?!?! How is this possible they could show a game where PS5 keeps a more steady frame rate?!?!

At least that's what I heard.......

Bored The Office GIF

Richard is always "fascinated" at the PS5 wins. This is getting kinda old. Maybe you just can't compare PC hardware to closed console hardware to draw any conclusion how they will perform.

This game is running to locked 4k on Pro/PS5 and dynamic on XBX/XSX. Resolution is a pure developer decision on Hitman 3, no dynamic system on that game. So we dont know how would run on PS5.
