DF UPDATE BACKTRACK Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 appears to be using DLSS to upscale from 540p to 1080p with "remarkably" clean image quality

Nvidia's upscaling techniques are just world's apart from whatever the competition is using. This is AMD's greatest failing the past recent years. The gap is so substantial now and how much performance DLSS gives you while delivering a solid image recreation from low resolutions. Makes me wonder what the PC handheld space would look like had we had an Nvidia x64 equivalent to AMD/Intel. To see how much performance one could unlock at say a 20W TDP with DLSS4 set to performance would probably redefine handheld gaming.

With that said, SF6 is a 1080p 60 fps game on PS4 so it is a bit odd that it requires such extensive upscaling on Switch 2.

Also, pro SF6 player

Yea I know DLSS is magic but it wouldn't take 2 weeks for DF to detect it normally, you would see it in the edge/ghosting even with transformer model. This is new technique? Nintendo's variation of it that they patented (DLSS specific to switch 2) ?

beter thens ps5?? patents game change??

Switch dudes keep owning themselves, lol. Bragging about your console needing to upscale from 540p in docked mode while PS4 can do 1080p native is a weird flex only Nintendo fanboys would be proud of. I swear we were told by the same guys that Switch 2 is a lot more powerful than PS4 and then were even comparing it to Series S, lol.

SO some of yall are bragging about a 10+ yr old fighting game that needs to be 540p before upscale in dock mode

Man what a beast of a system, def worth $500

I'm not buying a Switch 2 for 3rd party titles anyways so this doesn't affect me but I'm not sure how much copium you need to overdose on before 540p DLSS upscaling to 1080p is good in 2025

540p to 1080p is DLSS performance mode.
If this is DLSS 4.x (aka Transformer model), this would look better than DLSS 3 quality mode.
A small hit on base resolution is pretty acceptable in a fighting if that means higher fps and lower lag

But it doesn't?

The XSS version is full of details that aren't in the Switch 2 version. And that's not even considering the fact that the XSS version is working with the texture bug.

Then we're talking about the Switch 2 version in docked mode, which requires DLSS starting at 540p. The question is what it will look like in handheld mode.
The XSS version of the game is a mess.

OP UPDATE PATENT BOOKMARKED

upscale ai the future of gaming annnnd mobile not horsespowers im sorry my friends

Especially when we're talking about 2+ year old third party games. Pretty sure this DLSS upscaling is the only way Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 is running on Switch 2 as well. If it requires all this AI upscaling tomfoolery to run these years old ports at upscaled 1080p while docked, Switch 2 is absolutely cooked when it comes to running anything more recent. Could you imagine trying to run Monster Hunter Wilds or KCD2 on it?

Anyone thinking the Switch 2 is going to have years of third party support are kidding themselves.

What about input lag? Aren't upscaled games affected by this kind of problem?
Having input lag into a fighting game is not a good welcome card I suppose

You have in this very thread a tweet from a professional SF player saying the input lag is better than PS5.

Fun fact many PS5 games were internally rendered below 720p.
Fun fact, that's not true and I don't even buy those games.

Secondly, if at launch you're having to resort to such low resolutions, it means the system is already tapped out in year 1.

This is what happened with the first switch and we received nothing but trash afterwards. "Impossible ports" running at sub native, sub 30 fps with Nintendo tax included in the price. If cyberpunk is already struggling to hold 30fps in handheld mode, that's already sad.

Look at PS5 pro and PS5 upscaling from below 1080P in many games to hit 60FPS. Resolution doesnt matter anymore. its about how many effects and other things you can fit into that frametime.

Now, if the assets and everything else looks worse then PS4 I would say you definitely have a point. Why not use DLSS if it allows you to bump up all the other effects, and let DLSS do its magic. Especially if as a player you cant really tell the difference.

Change is hard, and harder when you're blinded by teraflops.

DLSS is just another rendering tech, another tool in the box to create pixels, and people can't comprehend that their favorite metric is no longer an issue.

You're ignoring that DLSS is not only for performance, it's an great antialiasing, even in 1080p Switch 2 version has better IQ than PS5 version, the hair is very noticeably better as per the comparisons we already got before. That means that they'd use it even if Switch 2 can run the game natively with zero issues.

there really is no point of not using dlss performance on an 8 inch screen
if it looks somewhat usable on my 24 inch 1080p screen, I just can't see how it could look bad for anyone on that screen

docked mode, now that would be a different discussion. if they can get dlss 4 there, I'm sure docked will be fine too
for handheld mode, even dlss 3 is INCREDIBLE.

There videos out of peoples reactions to the event and loads are saying switch 2 version is between ps4 to Xbox s and if they had to say prob leaning more to ps4 version, don't no what people expecting , for me might get this to play on the go, but when home would just play pc or ps5 which graphically will look a lot better then switch which is to be expected

??? Sometimes I'm surprised how many people on dedicated forums still don't know what they're looking at...

NO, what you're seeing in that comparison isn't better IQ on Switch 2, which also leaves much to be desired and isn't based on accurate material.

What you (and others) interpret as better IQ or sharper image or details is actually the absence of postproces effects (DOF, SSS skin texture, reduced bloom, etc.). In other words, these are cuts in graphic effects. And we're talking about docked mode. In handheld mode, the cuts will be even greater.

As I've said before, the positive news about the Switch 2's capabilities is that it appears to be capable of running (with cuts) PS5/XS generation games. That will help make its catalog more abundant and rich.

To what extent will it be able to run those games and how long will it be able to support future ports? That will be seen over time and as final games are released.

Not really.
The upscaling pass usually takes 0.5-1.5ms, depending on how many pixels are being generated. But because the render resolution is lower, the render cost of all other render pipeline stages are greatly reduced. So in the end, latency is lower with an upscaler.
Another thing might might be happening here is that Nintendo might also have Nvidia's Reflex available in their SDK. This helps lower latency even more.

No buddy, PS5 version has clearly better textures, effects, etc. But Switch 2 version is beyond sharp and clean compared to it, PS5 looks like it's using some form of cheap TAA, and I'm not taking about anything else than the meshes aliasing, PS5 looks even blurrier than Switch 2 in this game.

I have no idea what you mean here? In fact, most of your comments read like undecipherable retarded fanboy nonsense in the service of Nintendo. The mods should implement some kind of bot that deciphers your posts. Most of them read like drunk texts.

Lol keep following the clowns and defending their umpteenth backtrack.
DF provide educated guesses based on limited data and then revise them when they get more data. Not being prepared to backtrack would mean dogmatically sticking to their original claims, which is apparently how things should work on the internet?

Dude that PS4 native 1080p is blurrier than Man UTD's future.

Educated guesses my ass. With Nvidia involved, any moron could have seen DLSS coming a mile away.

Keep in mind they could have just said "we don't know yet if DLSS is involved, we'll have to test it and see" and it would have been far better than them making clowns out of themselves.

SF6 is a really ugly game. Really let down by Capcom's art direction in their recent games. This looks neither realistic or stylistic. It's just an abomination in between. Anyways, the real benchmark won't be for this light weight past-gen fighting game. It will be when/if games like DD2 and MH Wilds get ported to Switch 2. As far as I know, DLSS is not a magic bullet in those games on PC atleast. They're so miserably choked. But yeah Nvidia's advantage in upscaling/Machine Learning technology is generations ahead of the competition. I may have underestimated just how good DLSS upscales even from very pathetic 540p. Such an upscaling on FSR3 or any other upscaler really would have resulted in an unplayable image quality, especially in motion.

Yeah and how he thinks it's Nintendo's patented technology while posting a paragraph that literally just describes DLSS lol.

DF is far more knowledgeable, detailed and contextual than fanboys.

It's just bizzare that they rush to make silly clickbait videos with little evidence? Maye wait to have more solid evidence before making wild claims.

Of course the problem is not just with DF. People should stop taking their videos seriously, they are human being biased like everybody else.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't they saying DLSS in handheld mode was missing? They never said anything about docked mode not having DLSS. And if I'm not mistaken, we're looking at docked SF6 performance here, right?

I agree, but they get paid for putting out content, even if there is very little information to go on. Hence we get whole videos covering a few seconds of footage. Their conclusions should only be considered as reliable once they have a game for review.
