Hopefully this time it won't have a timer on your characters. I know 90 days is a long time to not play, but I've had several characters die from that fate.

I think the resolution patch only works on certain D2 patch numbers. Not sure if it works on the latest one though.
Yeah that's what I thought, I think 1.12(a) might be the most recent version it works with. I did fiddle around with it last time but had no joy. :(

I did notice something in the 1.13 notes that sounds like it'll be a little friendlier at least:

Support for blit scaling in windowed mode. The game can now be maximized to the largest 4:3 resolution supported (hooray widescreen users).

You are required to log in to B.net to play, there is no more timer like before so they will be there no matter how long you leave them.

While its not an MMO, I don't think they will be deleting characters.

Actually, I suspect characters are all server side to prevent player hacks etc.

99p/month for permanent character slots, I'm calling it. :p

It will be the Wizard. They look awesomely OP.
Calling it for Monk/Demon Hunter. Monk because it deserves it DH because people are retardedly attracted to Hunter characters.

Yeah, why did they even do this in the first place?

I can see them charging for extra slots, name changes, fluffy "WoW style" companions and pre-made characters.

I will be rolling Monk because of healing people and exploding stuff...in the face.

I disagree.

I would have to say people are attracted more to stomping shit the fuck out (Barb) and blowing it the fuck up (Monk) and overall knocking it the fuck out. Along with all the pretty colors that illuminate when the Wizard uses spells.

Don't remember where but there was a pole about it and Wizard was 1st, followed by Monk and Barb I think. Then DH and lastly WD.

Barb/Monk classes are always super popular and Wizard is your typical cool spell guy so I see those three being on top.

One of the well publicized "features" of B.Net 2.0 is the fact that your characters _won't_ disappear, thankfully. I'd provide a source but anything gaming is blocked at work (except GAF, I don't know either).

Yeah, this was one of the bullet points for the heavy B.Net 2.0 integration.

Corkys daily struggle against descending into d3 related withdrawal:

Please dear God/Jebus/Blizzard, have tons of cinematics, my dream would be SC2 levels of inengine cutscenes combined with Blizzard Master Class CG (TM).

Like THIS please :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6squ47FqK8k&feature=player_detailpage#t=8s
And for the sake of everything that is holy please don't let the ingame cutscenes remain like THIS : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uT2mrL8F0w&feature=player_detailpage#t=81s
I'd have to gouge my eyes out and rely on the audio cues...

I hope they do those kind of cutscenes and not the WoW style in-game ones. Give me the sexy CGI back Blizzard!

That's waaaay more than enough for me. But still, did you see the SC2 "ingame" cutscenes? They are ridiculously good in terms of visual fidelity, sure it's not blizz cgi but something tells me they also cost a fraction of that. Heck did WoW games even get more than tops ONE cgi trailer?

One per expansion. The rest with ingame cutscenes and machinima.

Ah yeah see that's something I really hope does not happen. Come on blizz, act cinematics. DO EET!

Atually, they've already promised they won't delete characters, ever.

Which is honestly believable, because the D2 automated deletion thing they used to do no longer functions from what I've seen. I've actually been able to log into and play expired characters.

I'm guessing we will get an intro cinematic, maybe the one that initially was used as a teaser, then a cinematic for each of the acts along with and ending cinematic. I'm hoping so at least!

I hope there are CG's like Diablo II. Those were cool. I'm expecting this to have more ingame cutscenes. We'd be lucky to get an intro and ending CG.

I can't think of a single Blizzard title, past or present, that has not had CG Cutscenes...

Even the WoW Expansions seem to have CG Cutscenes. I think at the very least you are looking at an intro and ending CG.

If it is anything like Diablo 2 though, we will get Cut scenes for each new Act but that may be pushing it.

WoW started to get into this habit of using in-game models for CGI-ish cutscenes. Fairly cool but I much prefer the stylish CGI Blizzard is known for.

I saw a gameplay video of a monk dropping a huge bell onto a group of enemies and then kicking it towards them. I've looked through all the monk skills and rune effects, but can't find out what this is. Does anyone know?

There is no phase. Everyone can participate in the f&f beta if they know someone at Blizzard.

NAh i'm in EU and still waiting for activation like all.

That's the Monk's "Wave of Light" active skill.

Wave of Light
Requires Level: 29
The Monk summons a rolling wave of holy fire that scorches everything in its path, dealing Holy damage.

Blizzard quote :

I think you’re confusing in-game ‘machinima’-style videos with pre-rendered cinematics. The Monk and Wizard announcement videos were made using in-game assets, models, and animations. Mostly shot using camera views and close-ups that the game was never designed for. The WWI announcement cinematic is obviously of a different quality. But the fact that they’re even confused for one another is a big compliment for the team that creates the in-game promotional videos. They do an incredible job.

But yes, the game will include pre-rendered cinematics. And obviously they will be amazing.

Intro CG, 10 pre-rendered cinematics for each class/gender, and maybe opening and ending CG for each act.

Diablo 3 Beta Lottery: Only SC2 and WoW Players?

Really sucks if true, I have 5 Blizzard "Legacy" games on my battle.net account but no WOW or SC2.

Don't worry, they said :
Blizzard said:
To be eligible to participate in the Diablo III beta test, you need an active Battle.net account with any Blizzard game title attached to it. If you don’t already have an account, it’s easy to create one. Once you’ve set up a Battle.net account, or if you’ve already got one, you can access it by visiting http://us.battle.net/en/ and clicking the Account button on the upper right. Then, to opt into the beta, just click the Games & Codes section of your Account Management page, and then select the Beta Profile Settings option from the drop-down menu.
So it's just to avoid people creating bogus accounts to participate in the beta.
If you have one blizzard title attached to it, then you're eligible.

Whew! I still hope that the Diablo 2 and LOD from 11 and 10 years ago will get me pass that.
I was even searching for the damn CD keys in the loft to add them games to battle.net.

I am clunching my fist in anticipation of said invite to the beta..I..must...BELIEVE

I bet bosses and some unique mobs will have the potential to drop a higher number of quality items at one time so they will still be relevant in mf runs just because you know that you might get 1 legendary, 1 rare and 2 magic items per kill or something to that effect. I am not a fan of the repetition of boss runs for magic find or building a character just for being as fast at killing certain bosses as posible. I just want to kill stuff, level, and find good gear along the way in an artistically beautiful and interesting world. Looks like D3 is going to deliver.

Diablo has always been about killing as much as possible and pushing that little XP bar up, up, up while finding awesome gear along the way. There are many games that you can do this in but the Diablo series has always been the most polished and fun IMO. I also totally dig the lore and tone of Diablo.

I always start out with a Barb/Melee character because it is satisfying to pummel everything into submission and they can wear the heaviest gear and swing the biggest weapons of destruction. Barb looks fun as hell in D3 so there is about a 98% chance it will be my first.

There is going to be more than enough customization too and it is going to be great that there is no barrier to trying out different skills other than reaching the level necessary for said skill. Add in the runes that modify each skill and it is going to be so much fun to try so many different builds and not worry about creating a gimped piece of shit character that can't survive in nightmare/hell/inferno.

I couldn't resist the urge to look up a build online before starting a new character because of it. Now i can do this all on my own. :D

I can't take is anymore! Just roll out the beta and let me know I'm not even in it so I can sleep at night.

There is not any widescreen hack that works well without crazy mods and burning up your memory. No patch has addressed this because it's just old tech. 800x600 is as good as it gets without getting your hands dirty.

if you don't plan to play on battle.net, the existing hi-res patch works a treat. You just need a particular patch number (and there are resources to roll back if you need to) and you can pick pretty much any res your screen can support. Works beautifully on my PC

I contacted an old friend through facebook that I haven't seen in 9-10 years to see if he still had my copy of Diablo 2 that I lent him! We both had Mac G4s and were in graphic design classes together. He actually contacted me weeks later with the CD key! Said it took him awhile to find it! Too bad I already broke down and bought another copy!

Force reckons the closed beta will be this week, so here's hoping. I honestly don't see the the point in having the F&F any longer than it already is. They want performance testing done, and giving press access will shoot hype into the stratosphere.
