Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Please let the surprise be open beta!
You can do it Blizzard! Flick that switch!

That would be nice, seeing as I'm not in the beta yet. A D2 Patch for higher res and widescreen would also be awesome. More likely though is that the surprise will be a tad more underwhelming. Think a new WoW in game pet, or some D3 inspired Starcraft 2 map. We will see soon.

No Act Updates
It looks like we will not be seeing any updates on the official site about act 2, 3, or 4. They wish to keep anything on the game guide spoiler free until release.

That was amazing.

Wait a second... that video @ 10:28 showed Tyrael. Which video was he revealed in? I honestly don't remember.

Are others having terrible lag with the current Beta build?

It's currently unplayable for me.

I'm running an overclocked i5-2500k and gtx 580. My connection is fine. Plenty of bandwidth.

Make it better blizzard I wanna play more QQ

Just finished reading the Diablo III: Book of Cain I gave myself for Christmas.

Diablo-III-Book_of_Cain.jpg

It has amazing production values and a great chronology of Sanctuary and the Heavens/Hells, as written by Cain himself to his niece. It also shows the two new lesser evils which will probably be introduced in D3 (not sure if they are revealed yet so I will not spoil them).

Is there any story being addressed in the beta or not? Because I'm also looking forward to what they will do with it.

There is some story and lore, but nothing major as far as I know. Some of the details of Leoric's fall might be new, such as the scene where he is betrayed by his knights (shown to the player in-game in a brief scene with a bunch of apparitions).

Spoilerific speculation - With what I've seen in that video and

that female depiction of Diablo, I think it is pretty clear that at some point an important female character of the game will be taken by Diablo, and I can only think of Leah right now so I think it must be her. Gross.

I just hope they don't go all Kerrigan with that scenario if my supposition ends being true.

Sigh, that time-line fills me with so much nerd-rage.

The bloated corpse of WoW just *whomph* taking up that ridiculous amount space between whenever the last non wow game was (tft 2003? ) and whenever the hell d3 is coming, obviously 2012.

9 years ._.

Didn't really look like there's much emotion in her face while demonized, so there's very little they can do with her while in that state.

Are others having terrible lag with the current Beta build?

There's some weird pre-loading issue a ton of people are having (including myself) where the first instance of a new skill, new enemies, new location, etc., is always janky as hell until it "loads" then it's fine afterwards. It's persistent throughout the session because there's always new stuff loading. :(

In regards to the Lesser Evils (just speculation, but seriously don't read this if you don't want to think or talk about plot, because I think I might be on to something here):

One of the lesser evils is Belial, Lord of Lies, right? What if he's been lying to us for a while now, and has been taking the form of someone we've trusted...?

Yeah, though I had an absurd amount of fun with WoW for quite some time there.

Well as did I, for year one, and two... but then we all stopped playing. And that was 5-6 ish years ago, since then I've been replaying d2 from time to time and just awaiting d3.

StarCraft II?

StarCraft II?

Bought and played it, love it but considering how monumentally mp-focused ( not my cup of tea ) it was it was merely a distraction for me rather than a game that I'll come back to and play for a large amount of time ( like d1, hellfire, d2, lod, wow ). Though don't get me wrong, I'm very happy they made sc2 and judging by its reception/adoption Blizzard really nailed it.

BUT!...

Y u no d3?

Same here.

Too bad that still left over ten million players to give Blizzard the wrong impression :P.

I keep trying to figure out exactly what the issue is. What exactly is Blizzard polishing? They haven't released the Pvp aspects in Beta yet, which I would think would be a pretty big test. All server load , streaming, should be long ironed out. I honestly don't have a clue in their process, but wish they would come forth and explain what the hold up is. Showing the screens and timeline is a complete tease. Something that should have come after they announced a release date, to get us all hyped. Just my patient thoughts. :)

I feel like the real money auction house is what is holding the game. They probably don't want to mess it up.

They have nothing else to do while waiting for a SK rating...

but tomorrow a 18+ rating will be given in SK probably so I hope a release date announcement follows shortly after

I'm really jaded as everybody knows, but I really want to be wrong on that - because I'm inclined to agree with what you said.

I REALLY hope I'm wrong...

I stopped caring. It'll come when it comes. In the meantime, there were a ridiculous amount of good games that came out last year, I'll play some of those.

Hmm, I wasn't really blown away by anything this year to be honest. Portal 2 and Dead space 2 were great, but nothing truly stellar. Though I haven't been able to summon the fighting spirit for something like Dark Souls, it might qualify...

I haven't seen a whole lot of feedback on the Book of Cain, so let me throw a few tidbits out there;

As far aesthetics, it's downright awesome. The cover has a very cool inscribed look to it. The pages look like they are worn and aged, giving it a really cool look on it's own. The sketches inside are also amazing.

The writing and organization of the book itself is hit and miss. Some of the wording sounds weird at times and the sentences don't really flow together. At times the book (written by Cain himself) addresses the reader as Leah, while other times it addresses the reader as "reader". Some of the segments are informative and interesting. Others are extremely generic and lack any hint of creativity or uniqueness. It's really quite strange.

Overall I'm enjoying it but my hopes were a tad higher. It's worth owning for any big Diablo fan for the aesthetic alone.

Sigh... Book of Cain, I will get you someday.

Yeah, I hold a certain amount of contempt for WoW not only because it got the ball rolling on MMO games and the industry's neurotic obsession with multiplayer in general but for making Blizzard forget about it's other brands. In the time they're taking to put out Diablo 3 I've grown up and watched my interest in games - not to mention the time to play the handful of titles I'm still interested in - dwindle dramatically.

I'm tired of waiting to get into the beta. I caved in a ordered the book today to hopefully hold me over. My anticipation for playing this game is ridiculous.

Argh why am I not in this beta yet D: D: D:

I think I'll leave my Book of Cain in the Amazon box for now. I don't want to spoil anything for myself.

Some replies by Bashiok, from diablofans:

What does Polish mean?
It's making sure everything is perfect. We're not really in a strictly polishing phase yet though, although certainly that's true for some areas of the game. Still, we're in the process of working on some rather large game system changes, some of which we'll be sharing shortly before or with the next beta patch.

So this means that once those large game system changes are set, that will be the time when the D3 team goes in the "strictly polishing" phase?

I wouldn't get hung up on thinking about it that way. It's a big game and each individual piece may be at some different level of development.

So is the rune system set and is currently being implemented entirely?

Not yet. Once we have an implementation and we're at least moderately sure it's going to work out we'll share all the details.

re far are you guys (generally) from being able to ship a game that is polished? In other words is it still an early 2012 planned release?

We don't know. We were shooting for the end of 2011, and now we're shooting for first quarter 2012. As soon as we're sure of something (release date or otherwise) we'll be sure to let you know.

For fucks sake, "still, we're in the process of working on some rather large game system changes". Does that sound like Q1 to anyone?

im thinking we'll get an announcement by late january-early february, for a march release.

digital castration/daeity has kept me up for hours just reading his blog...

If the books follow suite in the same way the latest WoW books have, they shouldn't spoil anything. They've introduced you into the coming patch/expansion.

Been flagged apparently forever and they still haven't sent out new invites for beta. I hope our mutual benefactor is reading this that I'm still concerned!
