Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

I want to try the new changes that are in the game. They sound pretty good for the most part. I like the double discovery without the hassle of the scrolls. The only one I don't think I like is not having the cube to break down stuff in the field.

Indeed, it is one thing to read about the changes but, another to actually feel how they impacted gameplay. A fun but sometimes head-tilting process, but that's what betas are for. Sucks I cannot be apart of it but the impressions from others are interesting enough to read and get a slight idea.

Dedicated potion button is a small but very welcome change! That was always one of my favorite interface features of Titan Quest :-D

It's like a crack addict getting a grain of crack a day. They know it's not enough and driving them nuts but they'll take what they can get

Best metaphor for the beta I can think of, I've installed Diablo II and a resolution mod for it to pass the time until Patch 10 comes out hopefully in 24 hours.

Oh my god, it's going to be amazing when this game comes out!

Level cap above 13! Runestones (maybe)! The rest of act 1! Act 2-4! Nightmare, Hell, Inferno! Two new followers! Gems! Level 5 Blacksmith! The Jeweler! Loot! Arenas! Achievements! Paying for college selling items!

AAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Level 10 Blacksmith!
Fixed. Normal goes up to 4, Nightmare up to 6, Hell up to 8, Inferno up to 10.

Gotta grindz to get them level 13 epics.
I've probably played the beta more than anyone on GAF and the only accomplishments I can say I've achieved are having 3 amulets drop, having over 4 dozen rares, and turning my DH almost all blue. Legendary items are in the beta, but most of them are useless and I have yet to have one myself. Back to Diablo II until tomorrow. Also, on that note, after having been playing DII again, I actually think HP globes are a pretty good idea now, but on the flip side I really wish the dungeons had more contrast lighting, almost all the dungeons in DII are pitch black with fantastic colored lighting coming off of torches, champion monsters, etc. An example in the beta being that champion monsters only have shiny rim lighting applied to themselves and no lighting applied to the environment.

Yeah the lighting for DII was really nice and really helped support the atmosphere, adding a bit more to the dark feel that Diablo has. Its cool to know that legendarys are present in the beta, (in some form) since I could see now why some might play it a lot more.

Replaying DII myself to help abstain from watching D3 footage, but still read on the changes and maybe what devs are aiming for in terms of player expierence. Just out of curiosity, what class do you play in DII if you don't mind me asking?

Just got to thinking and sorry if this was already discussed earlier in this topic but, I wonder how the health globes are gonna play a part in HC. A lesser spawn rate or not as much health recovered... Also assuming health potions have a CD so that should make things plenty interesting.

Okay guys, when someone says "if you want <insert shit here> send me a PM" and is inviting everyone to spam his inbox, that person is not also inviting everyone to spam the thread with quote+replies which go "PM sent!" or whatever. If this happens again in future, everyone will get a ban instead.

Got flagged by a good soul :) how much does it take usually for the beta to appear in my profile? The wait is killing me :P

Ps: is beta 10 already out?

I know I'm late reacting to this news but I'll just say this... but before I do I want to state that I haven't played the beta and that I've only been following D3 news for about a year and I've been on a semi-media blackout with the news.

I'm sure most of this has already been said but...

- Dedicated potion button sounds nifty, on paper... but why not just make it a consumables button and let people assign what they want to it? For example, what if I don't have any potions? I assume there are other consumables in the game.

- Removal of the Cauldron of Jordan and the Nephalem Cube stinks. This is by far the worst change. This is one of the features I was most looking forward to. I really liked the idea of staying in battle and not having to rummage around with my inventory.

- The redoing of the stats is fine but the balance is off. Wizard/Witch Doctor are getting the short end of the stick. The main damage stat for Barb, Monk, and DH simultaneously provides some sort of damage mitigation. Meanwhile the Monk and WD get increased health from orbs? WTF? Intelligence should have given them increased resistance or something. The health globe thing makes more sense under vitality.

- Don't mind seeing the mystic go (one less thing I'll need to level up).

- Don't mind seeing the scroll of discovery go (one less item I'll need to carry).

Baron Aloha, I can assure you that you did not think through this :D
Str/Dex gives them additional benefits because they already have to go in to deal that damage.

Wizards/Witch Doctors have no need going in, therefore they avoid a lot of the damage that Monk/Barbarians are bound to get. This is also partially correct with the case of DH, where they do have melee skills.

Therefore there is nothing "short end of the stick" with WD/W main stat, obviously.

Maybe perhaps the witch doctor is getting the short end, but the wizard is meant to be a glass cannon class. As far as the beta has gone so far the wizard does a ton of damage. Assuming this stays relatively the same I will have to disagree and say the Wizard should not get increased damage mitigation.

I hate admitting this. I never had the pleasure of playing D2. Ok. I did end up buying the battle chest a few years ago and attempted to play with a buddy... but it never panned out and I was way too busy leading raids with my WoW guild.

I don't know how, or why, such a wonderful game (yes, I realize this without having played thru it fully) slipped thru my grasp. But it did.

I am not in beta. That's ok. I am in DOTA2 beta and enjoying it very much. But, over the last few months, I've been a whore for content -- watching YouTube Vids -- browsing the official website -- you get the idea.

The other day I discovered Torchlight 2... and consequently, Torchlight 1. Long story short, I've purchased Torchlight 1 and, although flawed, it is the perfect buffer until I get into beta (please) or until either Torchlight 2 or D3 actually comes out. It's fun. Mindless. It's satisfying my craving. For now.

I probably payed the high end for Torchlight 1 ($15)... but for those of you who are waiting for D3, or D3 Beta, and have never heard of the Torchlight series... give it a go. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Again... it's not perfect... but it gets the job done.

Aside from being told by a good soul that you have been flagged, is there a way to see that you have been flagged on battle.net?

I'm more worried about what they're going to do to the rune and skill system. Please god anything but talent points again.
I noticed one of the runes for each skill tends to just increase the potentcy of the skill, while the other four change it in some way, I believe runestones will stay the same, with each level runestone increasing the power of that particular rune. That way if you use the runestone that just increases the normal version of the skill you still essentially level it up.

Legendary items do not drop in the beta currently as they are being worked on individually
There were like two in patch 9 by mistake, as they had no stats, and it looks like patch 10 will lower the overall magic drop.

Woah woke up to 50+ pms lol. Ill try to get to many as i can.
Just be aware Doc.

It looks to be a neat and amusing system, opening up a lot of possible combos and unique characters.

When the beta first started there was a legendary sword that came off of an anvil before you find your first waypoint. It was there quite a bit as I had many of them. I'm pretty sure they either removed it or just reduced it's drop chance a lot.

Heh. One of these days I'll join in on the fun =)
Saw a local retailer showing a release date for end march. Guess they're a bit hopeful
(Lol they even have a pre-order page up for Episode 3 heh).

Just to clarifiy. Do you mean that the person inviting people to PM him to giveaway something will get banned or just the people replying with crap like "PM Sent"?

I agree that those replies are useless and really spammy but I think that the giveaways from generous people are great (if limited to only one message of course).

I just want to make sure for the future

I think what he's saying is that the whole point of inviting people to PM you is to avoid clogging up the thread with no-content posts, and if you first PM them and then make a no-content post to inform everybody that you sent a PM you are being a Bad Internet Citizen.
