Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Not open for further replies.
1) You have a huge resolution.
2) You're running it on a mac, which brings performance issues
3) Your GPU is made for laptops, ie weaker than the model number indicates.

1) Agreed, but I never intented to play the game at max resolution, that's impossible with my graphics card.

2) I guess you're right... Hope future patches do correct this like it happened with SC2.

3) Blizzard is the one testing their game on all kind of Macs, they should know how to assess what's minimum and recommended.

Thanks for the replies they do calm my eagerness to QQ out of desperation. I'll be sure to turn shadows off and just play at 720p instead of my native res of 2560x1440.

But damn... if with such amazing specs (for me at least) you still can't play the game at max settings why would Blizzard release such deceiving "recommended" settings? It appears that my specs would make the "minimum" system reqs...

I know Mac users are still in the minority... including on these forums... but I think this thread is definitely worth a read:

Diablo 3 Beta Mac Performance Issues

It looks as if the game simply isn't optimized for OSX. Not surprising. Many of those participating in this thread are claiming capping out around 35 FPS... regardless of where their settings are. Many of us are feeling the same way -- something is holding the performance of our machines back.

It is a known issue currently acknowledged by Blizzard that is being worked on. We need to be patient if we plan on running it, native, through OSX. The only other option is running it through Bootcamp which, for me at least, garners a much appreciated boost in performance.

It's not perfect. Not yet. But there is still plenty of time.

Just got in the beta recently. After playing a couple of hours over the last week or so (yay, school), I can honestly say it's hitting all the right spots for me.

I'm loving it.

Dude. I built a brand-new PC last year with i5 2500k, 8GB RAM and a GTX 560 Ti 1GB. The *only* reason I didn't go for a 27" monitor was because I knew I would have issues running games at 2560x1440. It's your own fault for not knowing what you were getting into when you bought that Mac.

If you want to play PC games, don't buy a Mac (or prepare to pay out of your ass for the upgrades). It's that simple.

I have the same build. Have you tried running ambient occlusion on Diablo 3 in quality mode with all the video options maxed? I have to run it in performance mode due to vsync kicking down to 30fps and this is only on a 1650x1080 monitor.

Just wondering how your PC is holding up with AO on.

Added to the list. I'm hoping I gather enough for the list to be put in the Diablo III |OT|.

There is going to be a battletag change before the launch. I'm not sure if everyone's will be reset or just those who choose to change it. I guess if the latter is the case we can always edit in the new tag.

I believe Bashiok said on the DIII forums that they will give the option to change it a little bit before DIII is released and they proceed to patch in Battletags over the current WoW and SCII "tag" systems. So they aren't forcing a change or reset, I think.

In any case I'll be ready to edit that entire spreadsheet. :)

Would we get to pick our numbers after our tag?

Thanks for your kind words but I did not buy my Mac to play games on it, I just happen to be fortunate enough that some developers like Valve and Blizzard care for my platform and decide to support it, then I came to this forum to ask about performance of this game to other Mac users in anticipation of the game. I congratulate you on your pursuit of gaming excellence but I just wanted to share some info about this little game that dares to be on another platform.

Whaaaa?! I just did my first patch 15 run, and I did not get a single rare from the skeleton king, but rather 3 blue items.

That's quite a big change, no?

Haha, you rock man! Thanks for taking your time to upkeep the list!

I'm pretty sure the numbers will always be randomly generated, but I'm not 100% sure.

Just got this notice from Amazon in regards to the CE I preordered last month:
Important Message

We're sorry. The item Diablo III: Collector's Edition is no longer available from the seller you selected. We've moved it to the Saved Items section of your Shopping Cart. To see if it's available from another seller, click here to return to the item's product detail page.

Wat.

Wat!

I'm kinda pissed.

I have a feeling lots of people will get screwed when it comes to the Collector's Edition... I've pre-ordered both the CE and the regular; I don't care if don't get the CE on launch. I know I'll be getting one eventually - the only thing I want is the game in my hands on releaseday.

I got some game time in today and made a witch doctor. I think it starts out kind of slow and will drive off a lot of people. I'm talking about not being able to do anything except shoot darts and snare for a few levels. It starts getting cool when you get zombie dogs and I think it will get really cool when you get more spells, but those early levels felt kind of lame compared to the other classes.

My favorite class is still the Monk.

I have pre-ordered both, just in case. I am not that bothered about the CE stuff, I just want to play Diablo 3!

For new players, it is just so Diablo 3 does not freak them out with too much awesome. :D

Also, Monk Day 1.

If you want to play ASAP, why don't you just get the digital download directly from blizzard?
I've wondered why I haven't done this myself... I think I really want any box Diablo 3-related box in my hands :3 The feeling of going to a midnight launch and buy it is unbelievably awesome.

Might be an option but I will get the game on Day 1 anyway. Also as any Blizzard fan knows, the first few days of server issues could be pretty horrific. :D

THIS THIS THIS!

Some games I don't mind but Blizzard make some awesome looking CE boxes. Plus I get to unbox it and show off pictures.

Just the thought of me grabbing the D3-box is turning me into a 11-year old... butterflies in my stomach :_: God, this game...

You understand my giggling mind. Not many games have the ability to do that but when I think about the endless hours I have poured into Diablo 1 and 2, Diablo 3 is going to be utterly delicious and devastating to my social life. :D

Ok, can we mod GAF homepage for Diablo 3?

But didn't you say you're getting both the regular and the CE anyway? So why don't you order the CE box, and the digital download regular edition?

I had not thought about that. :D

It's important that you'd get it on release day. I know, it's ridiculous but this is how we think :3

I thought it was set up some time ago that you only get a rare item from SK the first time you kill him with a character? To try and discourage people from farming.

I'm uninstalling the beta. For our own good.

In a minute.

Or two.

And I'm not gonna doubleclick the icon.

I'm gonna UNINSTALL IT.

In the same vein, I think Demon Hunter starts out pretty slow too. Hungering Arrow, for one, just doesn't feel that good. Later levels I think the class will start to blossom though.

In other words exactly like the summoner classes in D2 heh.

The most horrible (or awesome) thing has happened and my mouse has started to break (before d3 release even), it does not register clicks good anymore, and it is getting hard to even manage your inventory since drag and drop hardly works.

So I need a new mouse. Has anyone tried the SteelSeries Diablo3-branded mouse? Or the SC2-mouse maybe?

Glad I already have the game from my Annual Pass, downloaded and ready, so I can play it as soon as the servers go up. Still planning on buying the CE, but whether I get it the day before release, the day on release or a week after isn't that important. I think Blizzard is doing a really good thing here with how the game(s) are added to Battle.net.

I mean that adding the CE afterwards just upgrades the D3 already on the account (and gives me 4 months of WoW time).

Still haven't decided with class to play though...

Did you preorder from a third-party seller? I ordered the CE from Amazon, sold by Amazon.com, the night of the release date announcement (remember I was telling you this in chat) and my order is still there smiling at me.

I'm thinking I want this as my next mouse:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse-G700/dp/B003VAM32E

It's not the absolute "perfect" mouse, but it will fulfill my needs. All hotkeys on the mouse for 1-handed Diablo gaming!

It seems pretty good, the only thing I wish it had was a "panel" button like my current mouse here does: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Marathon-Battery-910-001935/dp/B003TG75EG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1332231316&sr=1-1

I'm not that big of a fan of wireless peripherals, I want something with a cord. For geek-reasons I want the d3 mouse, but only if it does not suck :)

I have a iMac, 27 inches, with these specs:

  • 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
  • 12 GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (Will upgrade to 16 GB in a few weeks)
  • AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB GDDR5

I can play StarCraft II at 2560 by 1440, with everything maxed with no problems. Only cutscenes shows a few slowdowns, but it's easily fixed turning off an option regarding shadows (don't remember the name). I can't really tell the difference, so no problem.

Can I expect Diablo III to run as good as StarCraft II? Both games uses the same engine, right?

I am more and more gravitating towards the Witch Doctor class. I can see it being kinda unpopular, which means I can easily sell all the Monk/Barb/Wizard/DH stuff and buy WD things cheaply. Also, the class is fun except for the first 4-5 levels, which is NOTHING compared to how much almost all builds sucked in D2 before becoming viable. (Usually 1-30 ;)

Yep, this is the mouse I use and it works really well.

You can plug this one in if it suits you!

Question: Does anyone know if they're still giving out beta keys? I wanted to come into the game fresh, but I already caved and watched a lot of beta footage, so naturally now I want to play it. And from what I've seen, I'm going monk to start with.

I've seen surprisingly many WD players in the beta. I think the summoner aspect will make it popular not matter how much it sucks in other areas.

Rocking a new setup... wanna try the beta with it :_:
