Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

Well this is great. Thought I'd give the beta another spin since it's been months since I tried it.

- less stable
- more stuttering
- odd "bugs" I can't put my finger on.. that could relate to :
- shitty shitty decision of them with the whole online at all time / storing shit server side
- "you have been removed from the game", "lost connection to bnet", game goes back to main menu. My own connection didn't die.

Yeap. Can't wait.
I had problems during patch 13 and 14, but after 15 my game is super stable. You should check your setup and see if everything is up to date.

When it comes to drivers and stuff I'm as anal as they come. I read the nvidia forums and do my own testing with each driver update, cleanly removing the last one etc etc.

They're definitely cleaning this up for the retail game, I wouldn't worry about it!

Those are clearly server-issues or connection-issues. I would wait for reports from release if I had those kinds of issues. Now since there are no europe-servers up for beta and I am in Sweden, I run around with 100-300ms ping. Not optimal. I have not tried the last patch, but never had the freezing issues.

D2 had local servers here in Sweden hosted by Telia, same with war3, I'm hoping for the same for D3, would put me at the sweetspot of 3-10ms :)

I can't believe they are not making any changes to the Blizzard spell. How can they even claim that some people like it? WTF? It looks like utter shit, especially for a high level ability. Meteor looks bad as well but it comes nowhere close to the shittiness of Blizzard.

Like I said earlier, there are so many reasons to be worried about the final quality of this game. Seems like a shitload of cutting corners despite the lengthy development time.

They have spend more time tweaking systems and numbers on this game than graphics. We might see some improved things come final release, i think there were some changes in sc2.

I'm sure Diablo III, with all the patches they will release for it (I assume), will be everything we wanted and more before even an expansion is announced.

Played through all 5 characters on Beta. Shocked how much I liked the Witch Doctor, really hated the Monk. Played Amazon in D2, but kinda up in the air on the Demon Hunter- it's a very different take on the "Bow/Arrow" trope.

I just logged in for the first time in a long while to play around a bit. I'm not noticing any of the issues you guys are talking about (regarding performance). I'm at around 190-200ms pingtime from Sweden, it is not very noticable, only slightly when picking up items and "zoning" inside buildings etc.

For those new to the thread or new to beta... performance issues are well documented on the Beta forums and have been (mostly) attributed to optimization issues. The "stuttering bug" is well known and Blizzard has stated that they are continuing their efforts at gathering information on it.

For those that are still having issues... might I recommend playing in "Windowed Mode." This significantly increased my performance both on Mac OSX and through Bootcamp using Win7.

It sucks and it draws many questions about what the release will look like... but I think if you were to browse the Beta forums you'll find that Blizzard has a pretty good handle on it and the community has been giving really good feedback. Obviously the inherent problem occurs when you DON'T see a fix... but do remember... this is beta.

Lets wait until we see the runed versions of blizzard and meteor. There are some significant differences visually for skills between the base and runed variants and often the feel of them is much improved as well.

I am not doubting the final quality of the product.

The full game releases in a month and a half's time.

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that they haven't ironed out all the issues yet. I was under the assumption that the latest beta is a much older version of the game and the technical issues have already been addressed. To hear that optimization issues are still being worked on and that they were still gathering feedback when the releae is just 1.5 months away, is not good. This definitely feels rushed.

I kind of imagine this at Blizzard HQ:

Knowing they can roll out fixes after retail and have such a large fanbase many will day-one this thing without even thinking twice probably aids them in releasing it "unfinished".

Well they keep reiterating that the beta builds are far behind the internal builds as well, so who knows.

The old Blizzard would have never let this happen.

So there is something frustrating me in the recent beta patch and I want to see if any of you are experiencing this as well. While playing through the levels I like taking out all the destructible objects in the environment. But after this recent patch the hit detection or something is off and some objects that at are supposed to be destructible simply do not register when I attack them. I'm playing a Demonhunter, so I'm generally firing arrows to destroy objects and trying to rack up a big combo. Sometimes when firing arrows, they simply go through the object instead of hitting it. If I re-adjust my position I will eventually make contact and destroy the object but grr is it annoying. Anyway, I'm sure this is something that will get addressed but I want to make sure I'm not crazy.

So umm.. Has anyone here have experience on sharing a D3 beta account? I would like to play for a couple of days and don't have the beta on any of my accounts. I could perhaps reward some nice soul with a Steam game or something.

Every company with an online-only game states that (see all MMO's). Question is, how many have shown huge improvements in the last months? IMO, not many.

I think this is totally different than basing it on an MMO, I believe that the final game will be quite abit more polished than the Beta.

Sometimes the issues are less front line polish that cause issues but backbone infrastructure. And yes, this game will use a large backbone like MMO's. Still, I know of numerous games outside of MMO's that have had issues online at release, and many weren't appareant in betas. All you can do is hope things go well and they caught everything so far but having last moment hiccups is always concerning. Some fans may not be but I bet some hardware guys at Blizzard are sweating a bit trying to smooth everything out in time.

I don't know about you, but I don't remember being told that Warcraft 2, Diablo, Diablo 2, or even Warcraft 3 would ship without a rather large, prominent feature like we were told PvP would miss the cut in D3.

Oh yeah, Diablo 2 wasn't broken or anything and didn't need any patches when it shipped...

It was also a different time but If the feature couldn't be implemented properly than I have no doubt old blizzard would have cut the feature as well.

Honestly, after the game launches, and the game will be more than playable, or...dare I anticipate this: smooth... then what? What remains? Chat rooms? :D

Which reminds me...46 days left. Not bad. Skullgirls cant come soon enough. Until that? Jin and Kazuya are waiting for me with their sweaty, rock-shaped bodies.

I think it should be cut. Part of the fun when dueling was that other monsters could get involved. If you were in a very dangerous area it made the fight way more exciting. Fighting in an arena doesn't sound fun at all. I could be wrong but if this is how they are going to do Diablo pvp then I assume it is more fun than the D1/D2 pvp.

Why does the game keep telling me I have a free slot in my offhand when I am running around with a two handed crossbow...annoying lol...also what is the key to see stuff on the ground,I think it says CTRL but that doesn't work...

didn't say it didn't need fixes. Oh I remember very clearly how bad the D2 launch was, with the realms down more than they were up, and it's the first thing I think of when people argue about whether or not D3 should be online only. What I said though, were major features. D2 had all the features it was supposed to ship with, as far as I know. All the gems, the runes (although not the runewords, that was LOD), all the difficulties, all the zones, and all the subsystems. These things were enhanced by patches, synergies and the uber bosses come to mind, but they didn't straight up cut a system because they didn't have time to do it because they were pressured by a release date.

How are people getting items that require level 29 to wield (I see them in the auction house)?

The same thing happens to me. That, and it telling me that I've got open slots (despite having nothing to fill them).

No charms, no exceptional/elite uniques, no 'world event', a lazy pvp system (not nearly as in depth as the Diablo III pvp will be), no runes (or runewords for that matter). But who honestly cares about all of that when you had a broken game. I'd rather have a stable game with promise of an awesome new free feature a few months after launch than a broken game (that was still missing a lot!) with no promise of that super awesome feature down the road.

Not to mention, there is a SHIT TON more polish in this game than there was in Diablo II with the 'old blizzard'. Just saying.

...furthermore... the game will be treated much like many typical MMO's are treated........ WITHOUT a monthly fee. The replayability of this game will be staggering. I'm not concerned. There will be enough for me Day 1 that will last me until Day ???.

Also... can we all just realize that we are still playing a beta product? I know it's Blizzard and we are all frustrated that the game doesn't seem polished... but I think we all need to relax. I've been a part of many a beta in the past and none were NEARLY this playable and in depth. I'll happily eat my crow if the game, Day 1, turns out to be really shitty.... but I really don't think it will outside of the typical lag/server issues that come with a server based game.

Are you guys equipping quivers into your offhand slot while using bows/crossbows?

I havent seen any quivers yet and why should I need some, the bow/crossbow seems to have unlimited ammo lol...but maybe that's it...so no one found the key to see stuff on the ground that you can click or pick up(that highlights it)?

The only hitch or stutter I have seen so far is with the Monk when you start his skill that runs into ennemies spinning with his weapons...at the start of it,it's like it takes a second to load the animation...

No, it wont be. They said they wont be add new instances, levels, etc to the game without expansions and wont threat it as a service like WoW.

I noticed a lot of startup with the Monk's abilities in general- it's what turned me off to the class. I like the immediacy you get with the other classes having a shot/swing immediately.

You use ALT, there is an option under Gameplay I think that lets you set how the items are displayed. They can display for 10 - 15 seconds after dropping and then vanish, you can toggle it on or off with ALT or you can hold ALT to reveal the items.

Be nice (and to their benefit, economically, imo) if they at least kept a relatively steady stream of new unique items coming into the game. Along with making old ones no longer drop (to increase their value).

Doesn't make a lot of sense to alter the game itself in patches, though. Except maybe some new unique encounters or post-game craziness like the ubers in D2.

Will the Monk be able to play like what they showed when they debut the class?

Seen some beta gameplay videos that look slow as hell, but probably because the monk doesn't have all the skills yet?

No pvp at launch? When did this happen?
