having to right click yellow items to 'indentify' them seems pointless, can anyone explain why this is part of the game? i'm sure there is a reason that i am just overlooking... so i'm curious.

Probably something with the "feeling" of watching that bar to see what it will be to build a little excitement for the player.

Has anyone found the equivalent of the secret cow level yet? I've seen the data mined stuff and some of the achievements, but was wondering of anyone knew how to get in there yet (obviously mark spoilers).

For a wizard, is giving the Templar the heal or taunt better? Also, are the follower skills permanent or can they be respeced?

Shit, got lags too now. Well ... thats it for me today then. Won't risk it.

About soloing: I allready posted this a week ago or so ... My theory is (HC)Inferno will be much easier solo for WD/DH and maybe sorc. Why? You got your merc. Perfect perfect meatshield.

edit: took taunt for HC ... If I need the heal it's to late anyway :o. Don't know about respec.

So uh, any update on the disappearing achievements/heroes?

A blue (Blizz employee) posted on the official forum that it was being investigated. Can't access that forum from here to see if another updated has been posted. But maybe take a look at their forums.

Haven't heard of anything. I assumed you might be able to jump through the portal the treasure goblin creates, although I haven't tried yet...

end of act 2, so far I'm not a fan of the story and writing (really not). I do however have to say that the companion dialogues are rather amusing and I love how they have unique lines for whenever I walk into a trap ("dry bones next to a waterhole? hmmmm"). The Enchantress is my favorite*.

* why oh why are companions singleplayer-only

Anyone think D3 is going to be GOTY?

In a few places maybe, but if Starcraft II got left out in too many places, then the same could be said for D3 later this year.

There is only one other game for ME that it could lose GOTY spot for, and that's Halo 4.

Careful when you quit this game. I just wiped about two hours of progress during act 1's cemetery quest. Painstakingly explored the whole forest on the way to the cemetery and the first crypt and quit the game, but it only saved my money and inventory and current level, not any of my progress after starting the quest.

Do they really expect you to play one continuous four-hour session before it will save your actual progress in the quest again? That's so dumb. I can't believe how much games still struggle with the simple act of saving. It's been a feature of gaming since the 80s and devs still constantly screw it up. It could so easily have saved where I was when I reached the cemetery or when I exited after clearing the first crypt.

You should get some strenght and intelligence for defense at some point.

Yeah, I've focused on pure damage and vitality so far (no HC for me just yet :)), as attacking is still the best defence so far it seems. But I fully expect to have to change that when I get to Nightmare, as my defence (~30% DR) and resistance (~5% :P) levels are quite low.

Started a public game to get some help/better loot from the Skeleton King battle.

My party chat messages wouldn't go through. He was following behind but wiggling the entire time, like he was just rapidly clicking right in front of him.

Disconnected during the Skelli battle right as he was about to jump and finish the last little bit of life off the boss.

Then of course I had to wait, but I said fuckit and went to bed.

Woke up this morning and I was in the room in front of the skellie king, having to redo the entire fucking fight.

I went for the heal as I'm a terrible wizard and get hit more than I should.

And yeah, you can respec them as much as you want.

So is this it for multiplayer? You just join a game based on the quest - and it usually only has 1 other player? Wow that sucks, where the hell are all the teams (that aren't close friends)

Yeah, I don't mind skipping dialogue or the cg movies since it doesn't skip them for everyone, but the in game cutscenes are kind of important. My friend skipped the scene (middle - late act 1 spoilers)
where Deckard Cain is killed, and when they talked about burying him
at the end of act 1 we were like wtf. I got a little annoyed at that.

Yes. I told myself I was going to strictly solo my first run through Normal. But then a couple friends hopped on and wanted to play together. They were behind where I was, so I figured ok, I can play with them through stuff I already covered. But then we passed where I had been. And a couple things got skipped. Or inappropriately commented on. Hah.

Won't happen again.

So... Any more word on whether there is a Feat of Strength for finishing Hardcore before Normal? Anyone crazy enough to try it?

Solo is nothing compared to 3+ players. I imagine HC is a different experience overall, but playing with 3+ players in SC is SO much harder than solo and 2 player.

Saves are entirely server side so if the servers are fucky...

Especially barbs are pretty much fucked in 4 player HC games. In fact they are nothing else than a templar meatshield ... waiting to get blown up.

Im sure it has something to do with the portals, Ive tried running through it when he opens it, but waits to jump in. I had no luck though. The journal entry brings it up, so hopefully it is a hint and not them messing with the players.

Love the way your character looks. Pretty bamf.

I came across an item being sold for 100,000 gold on one of the vendors that seemed to be tied to a secret level of
some sort (I forget the description but it was hinting at one).

I don't see how they are going to balance this for PvP. What's going to prevent a wizard from freeze locking their opponent and nuking?

Is there a way to hide your online status? I'd like to play a little singleplayer without getting asked by everyone on my friends list to play.

You can set yourself to away or busy, not sure if "off" too.

Mmm... got craploads of lag, and now I got disconnected as well. Fuck this, I have work to do anyway.

Hopefully a leap, then stun then knock back then stun again then earthquake ;P

Can I get a definitive answer on how weapon stats work?

-Does that 15.2 DPS include the +1-2 damage?
-What if it was +1-2 lightning damage, would it be included in the DPS?
-Is the attack speed bonus included in the DPS?
If it had +2 Strength bonus, and you were playing a Barb, would that damage increase be included in the DPS?

How the fuck do I beat
Belial's
second form? The fuck?

Stay out of the green circles.... thats pretty much all there is to it. You need to have your Move command mapped (I use middle mouse button), so you can move without attacking and run around to avoid the green circles when they show up.

What progress did you make? Correct me if I'm wrong GAF but I believe the world randomly regenerates on every load? So if you didn't hit a checkpoint then there is nothing specific to save. Also, did you get the waypoint? If that didn't save then you have an issue.

Thatis where nerfs come in, which will piss of people who don't PvP and only PvE. Hopefully they drop the whole idea of PvP or choose to do some PvP only balancing or something.

Until I read the FAQ I forgot that there is no RMAH in hardcore mode. That's wonderful.

I agree. I've seen PvP balancing kill the enjoyment of PvE in too many games already.

yes, just like gems socketed into weapons are included as well, once they are in!
yes

From what I've read, all those stats are accounted for in the DPS display. Including strength.

So if Item 1 DPS > Item 2 DPS.. use item 1.

I think he just got near the end of that section then quit. When he came back on everything had respawned.

In a game like this that's intended behavior. All the previous Diablo games also work like this... if you shut the game down, and wander back into some territory you had previously cleared, all the baddies will be back. And they should be. Because that's how you grind for levels and gold on the higher difficulties.

I can only remember Blizzard talking about PVP balance from 2 years ago but they said that they weren't balancing for PVP. Diablo 3 is not supposed to be an esports title. They didn't even want to do a visible rating, and wanted to chop you up into groups like leagues in SC2 with no really distinction between skill level.

I don't understand why I can't stop playing this game. It's the most repetitive damn thing I've played in years. But I just...I have to get more magic items, I have to break every damn barrel, I have to keep exploring these dungeons, I need to just one more quest, just one more level and then I unlock something cool, one more armor piece...I look at the clock and the hours are just...gone. Why?

Fuck this game :(
Right there with you. It just hits so many notes for me. The weapon feedback, the art style, the simple yet addicting gameplay. I was having an absolute ball with Max Payne 3 last night but there was a little voice in the back of my head saying "You should be playing Diablo III. You should be playing Diablo III."

For me, it's the fact that this game doesn't get in its own way compared to so many other modern games these days. No hour long cutscenes, no janky mechanics, no obtuse system. Just good, polished gameplay.
