dat cons. First few hours are slow...in a 100+ hour game.

I completely agree about the slow start, however I also played through the beta 2-3 times and didn't get a character past level 9 until last night, so the initial zones were really dragging for me. However, until you get a few skills on your bar and the story picks up, I do feel like the game never 'caught' me. Playing solo in beta bored me to tears. I vowed not to ever play this game solo.

However, now that I'm finally Act II and things are picking up, I feel like I could play solo after all. I'd still prefer a tight-knit group of friends, but since mine are failing me, and I'm itching to continue, public games or solo play seem the way to go. Had some good fun in a public game last night--as long as folks don't try and rush the story on me, I have no problem playing with strangers.

Finished act 1 last night, my playtime for my character is at 8 hours, and I spent a little bit in co-op, but not much. REAL SPOILER
Yes it was spoiled before, but seeing the/a Butcher made me smile and get giddy, and then terror because I remember what a pain he was in D1, but he wasn't that tough here
The end cutscene for Act 1 was pure awesome as well. I know we're at a point in most games where in game cutscenes suit most games, but man, Blizzard proves again how incredible a well done CGI cutscene can be.

Agreed the end cutscene for Act 1 was amazing. I wish I would have bought the CE just for the blu-ray.

I see what you're saying, but 5-10k at 21 and 14-45k at 31, thats really high. With each item you get three random properties, and a chance for a socket, so there's a lot of room for getting some awesome shit for leveling. Plus, what the hell else are you going to do with all the magic garbage that drops other than salvage it.
That's insanely cheap. Granted I've gone through over a mil and was selling things on the forefront. That front loaded stuff is all gone, dunno how gold inflation is going to affect people below 60.

Maybe it'll come into play more.
Well ... those items you're buying are from Crafting so ...
None of the items I bought were crafted because I was outpacing blacksmiths on launch.

I was partied with someone who was maxing their smith per difficulty cap and it doesn't keep up in level.

It didn't in nightmare, but normal and hell he can make decent stuff. Weapons are the exception. But his armor crafted options are excellent.

I completed Act 2 on Normal with my Wizard last night. I just dinged 24 after traveling to Act 3. Game is pretty easy so far, and I've found a set of skills I'm pretty happy with the Wizard for now. I've only died once thus far and it was pretty avoidable because my wife was distracting me.

:)

I wonder what class would be best for that. I'm think wizard with diamond skill and teleport. I think those freak situations where you get bound or something is what will kill the most.

Assuming you can get that high, Monk stands a good chance due to cheating death, a ton of defensive (and healing) options, and a really good invuln skill. DH and Wizard can both play safe while DPSing, though there's some nasty enemy combinations to deal with ranged characters.

Hm, well then. Now it's filled with pretty cheap crafted Rares at a little over their cost. And I think my crafting got up to around Level ~30 for Normal and is on pace for ~45 for Nightmare. Honestly, it doesn't seem that bad to max out. I mean, the only other option is hoarding gold and waiting for other people to craft (or get drops) instead :x

I agree it's stupid making these awesome CG cutscenes and then playing them in some grainy compressed state.

Not even good compression at that, I would rather see those videos on youtube.

I forgot about that passive. Can't wait to hear about the first HC Inferno clear.

Has Inferno SC been done at all yet?

I'm using Electrocute w/Chain Lightning Rune, Arcane Orb w/Obliteration Rune, Frost Nova w/Shatter Rune, Ray of Frost w/Snow Blast Rune which is my high DPS nuke for bosses or elites, Diamond Armor w/Prism Rune, and Wave of Force w/Impactful Wave.

So I got a nice mix of damage and CC and control. Makes for an easy playthrough so far. Using the templar as my follower.

Shock Pulse with Explosive Bolts, Arcane Orb as secondary.

Spam primary, secondary for emergencies. Wipes mobs out in seconds.

They're phenomenal on blu ray. After watching the first cutscene, I just stopped watching them on my PC altogether.

Ugh, making me wish I had spent a little extra and just gotten the CE :(

Also, I did die a few times in act 1 on normal.... lag deaths :*(

Fun.

Fair enough. I didn't have any need for armor and found enough things that gave me +vit to not die to bosses on NM.

Playing Monk on Inferno is brutal. Shit just does too much damage to me.
Maybe I need 50khp vs 25k and godly equips, but these are just 1 step above zombies ffs.

Let alone an elite mob, because that is instant death and you can't take down their 600k hp or tank any of their damage.

When I was playing it was a much better option to sell blues for 80-200 gold and buy things.

Need to offload my 500k gold now. I feel done with Monk. Probably start a DH for Inferno.
Method is cheesing their way through by skipping everything they can. Act bosses are choreographed and they kill them by rez-zerging.
Yeah, I gave people a week, but it looks like it'll be done before that is even up.

The online AH drastically changes how this game plays, because you can keep ahead of the curve gear-wise, which wasn't really possible in a solo run through at home.

I don't like how you're almost forced to use the AH, or else be greatly underpowered. I never stopped to grind or redo quests in my run through normal, and by the end I was getting drops that were 8 levels below my character level.

Can't you just craft items yourself? I can craft weapons/armors that are above my level (I'm 16), and better then most drops I see.

Oh give me a break. There's a difference between being able to buy shit much stronger than you need on the ah, and being "underpowered" without it.
Thanks to crafting it's impossible to have dogshit gear in this game unless you're just throwing out the wrong stuff.

I'm working on Inferno, I have not bought a single item on the AH. Selling shit to people that do has funded my crafters to max, my banks to max, and given me a nice little nest egg.

Anyone else finding themselves getting to Nightmare and having to swap out their skills? For Normal its all offensive stuff but as things get harder, I have to start using defensive/stun stuff way more.
I'm not there yet, but this is precisely why I've been building mine with survivability in mind. Might take a little longer to kill things, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Yeah I think I spent about 50 k upgrading him sofar. Should have just spent in the AH.

I play HC so my intentions are a little different, but I did the same thing.

I bought all my gear from the AH, and spent the rest upgrading the jeweler. Then regarding my own drops:

blue = if sell price to vendor is less than 60, salvage and sell the mat. Else, sell to vendor
rare = sell for 2-3kish, vendor it if it's shitty
my own gear after upgrade = sell for the same price that I bought it initally.

I don't think I was buying stuff much stronger than I need on the AH. I was buying stuff 2-4 levels below my character rather than the 8-10 below that was dropping.

To be fair, I haven't done any crafting. I'm not even sure how much gold I need to invest before I can craft anything worthwhile. Are there any good guides around?

Stupid Belial. Had to do it by myself, because that boss seems to hard for the average player. No Mr. Monk, you can't dodge all of it!

Well I am still getting this after 5-10mins in game. At least it has been consistent since day 1.

How are you deciding on your prices? I don't want to buy anything, but I'd love to be able to push up my crafting and storage to max as soon as possible!
