Did you ever got a collector edition? Did you took care of it?

Hey, everyone. I was looking at my small physical game collection, and started to wonder: how people maintain collector edition? I mean, I my 10 games already occupy enough space, and it's already a bother having to clean it every now and then. I also have a amiibo, and while it's cool enough, also requires maintenance. After moving, I even put the amiibo on the drawer, to save space.

Now I wonder about people who have those special edition, with covers, booklets, posters, boxes, even statues. What you do with that? Put on your room at home or at work? How you maintain it? Just curious.

Edit:

Original response felt a bit too mean, so... actual answer:

I kinda don't bother at this point. CE contents take up a ton of space, and I'd rather use my shelves to display actual... y'know, games. Or cool hardware, or something else with a bit more utility. The other problem is that collector's edition releases have seen their quality go slowly but surely off a cliff. There were some really nice ones back when they were a novelty that only Japan got (like the Metal Gear Solid one from way back in the day) and some of the first few that came out in the West were kind of novel. But over time, the figures you'd get with these sets became embarrassingly low-quality, you'd get a CD sampler instead of a full soundtrack, some flimsy paperback art book with only a handful of pages, and the rest of it would be dumb tchotchkes that aren't worth a second look.

My favorite one that I ever got was the Berserk Collector's Edition box for the PS2 game, which came with a couple of pretty cool figures that I still have. I never regretted buying that one.

I buy very few collectors editions due to them taking up too much space, but those I have sits nice on my shelf. If they have a poster or art cards I usually frame them and hang them on my walls for display.

The few collectors edition stuff i get is usually put in a display shelf/cabinet. Boxes get thrown to the top of closet for transport.

Don't really buy them with ever selling them in mind, so other than dusting, they'll usually just be on display.

O for sure, but not many. Honestly they're almost never worth the money.

I'm still pissed about the MGSV collector's edition that came with a prosthetic arm of Big Boss except it turned out to be the arm of Big Medic and therefor meaningless as it is worthless.

I did enjoy the Ghost of Tsushima collector's edition, I still have the mask on a shelf.

I used to buy them many years ago when the physical items were interesting.
These days it's mostly digital crap or the collectors edition doesn't even included the game.

Ashens has some videos on Collectors Editions, such as this one:

Here's the full playlist:

I had a couple of collectors editions VGA graded back in the day and they are worth a fair bit. I own Earthbound VGA copy worth about £3k now.

StarCraft Brood War PC Blizzard Big Box vga graded as well , factory sealed still.. Not collectors edition but super rare now believe it or not, especially in factory sealed condition.

I also recently sold this, the buyer has it relisted for a lot more money 4 years later. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/286783739777?_skw=diablo+2+vga&epid=214800768&itmmeta=01K40XYHV7W6AG7FEF52Y6CEDZ&hash=item42c5a49781:g:o9wAAeSwbB9oq8SR&itmprp=enc:AQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1f0DLNBG21+dySksjlx9X5jMZ7H2rhkNRyxbjl8R9XP/KTNQvptHfTHu1hnLigMbdspTRgtl17hXXEmN4cwhUrEfJXbELtjncqmjf/cMIwkGqMjiJJsfVSVCor2Yk5FkB2N0g+B1gAsS9ZYIkZtsCWXRayWY+8fLbh+0nJiWSM+dg5cC4rM5nLYOUB9h5wYmbfp2fsuohdir2G00VmCcesEitlnTvt5QRrRB4ckBQTPBUNfw6/ukg3i6N/e5ZQ9KhyLEJGSKSY3vmHtWAQp+NwdzGi7T0ZbCTStj+yqM/of9A==|tkp:Bk9SR_Kd-p2gZg

Big box PC games are a fucking goldmine of collectable now, and surprisingly I have managed to find a lot of them at carboot sales here in the UK for some reason. I met a guy in skegness at a meet one weekend that had an entire transporter filled with big box pc games some factory sealed. He bought a storage container from an auction house and he had no idea about videogames, so everythign he found in there he just stamped in boxes and put a price of £250 for the lot. I almost rolled out of my chair when I saw it but quickly realised he had completely destroyed them by smashing them all so tightly into 2 small boxes and then letting them get crushed. It was a damn shame because there were some gems in there including the full blizzard collection. D2 was the only one salvagable and I got it for a tenner.

I bought a couple in the long ago, including one of the fallouts, and not I didn't take care of them, and prob traded them in during a purge. Tho it could also exist on a shelf somewhere. ADHD will do that.

I've been all digital for years now. Physical is just more clutter, and I have plenty of clutter already.

Yeah, for example I have the collector's edition of the first Assassin's Creed with the Altair figurine and I still have it in pretty good condition. A gift from my grandparents 🥰

Last big box collectors edition would have been the Destiny "Ghost" edition.

After cleaning the thick layer of dust off the box and ghost, I gave it away for free.

My one and only Collector's Edition purchase was of Fallout 4. That game disappointed me so much that I ended up giving it away to my nephew. Won't be doing that again. 😬

I'd rather buy game related merch after the fact.

I've gotten a few over the years, mainly in the PS2 era: Persona 3:FES Special Edition, Digital Devil Saga Special Edition, etc...

Most recently, I've picked up the Trails Daybreak 1 & 2 collectors' editions. Falcom tends to do a really good job with their special editions.

That said, I'm mostly all digital these days.

I have Ragnarok, Niche-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Onimusha Warlords, Master Detective Rain Code, Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered and soon the infamous Ghost of Yotei CE.

When I was in my teens I used to buy them. I remember having the Halo 3 and Reach ones, Black Ops, Arkham City, Dead Space 2, Catherine and a bunch more.

My favorite one is was Halo Reach. The statue is IMO still one of the best statues that has ever come in a collectors edition.

GOATs

My least favorite was Dead Space 2 because I was so excited for it and the fucking plasma cutter was toddler sized. Fuck this thing...

At some point I realized that they are a waste of money plus I got into minimalism

. I think the last one I bought was either Persona 5 or Catherine Full Body. I still have the sheep plush from the Catherine one but I think that's the only thing I have left from any of them.

I had the legendary edition of Halo Reach. Felt like such a boss owning it, and being in the friends and family beta. Everyone came over to my apartment, even people I didn't really know who had heard about it.

Kept it for about 15 years, nothing broke, all the guns and bits and pieces. Finally sold it on FB to a guy in the special forces at the base near here. He and his friend drove up in a convertible, wearing aviators, like a scene out of Top Gun.

They were cool guys and I hope they enjoyed owning it.

I got the expensive Horizon Forbidden West Regaila Box with statue and everything.

I paid over $200 and now its worth less than $50 on ebay.

My favorite collectors box was the Halo 3. Came with a MC helmet. Shame it wasn't wearable.

Oh and I got the collectors edition of Batman Arkham City. Came with an artbook and statue. Pretty cool.
