Digital Foundry: Donkey Kong Bananza - Nintendo Switch 2

The video reminds me the Mario Odyssey video, some people here went crazy about a few drops and some technical issues, ended up being almost irrelevant when people played the game. Everything looks and sounds amazing.

Sales wise? No. The masses don't know any better, but to gaming enthusiasts, like people who post on gaming forums, it matters then. Unless you're a fanboy of course, then you'll excuse anything. Demand better bro!

I didn't watch the video, and nor can I right now. But why are people mad about FSR? What does it do? Oh and is framerate at least mostly stable?

Of course they are, but people can also be disappointed with the games technical shortcomings, no matter how much it irks you.
Hellblade 2 was a technical showcase and received more shit here than whatever game Nintendo launched… Sorry but graphics are not than important in the real world or even here…

This is a digital foundry thread, we're not talking about the games overall quality, just the technical aspects. I don't know why you guys come in here to defend shitty technical decisions saying graphics don't matter etc. The video and this thread is all about it's technical makeup, this just doesn't seem like the thread for you unless you want to just damage control.

The game looks good and have occasional drops to 30 fps due the double buffer vsync, the 99% of the time the game runs at locked 60…is not like the game is unplayable 🙄

Again, no one said the game is unplayable. You keep jumping to extremes. Instead of defending Nintendo why not expect better from them? You're the consumer, you should expect the product to be as polished as possible.
 
I swear to god some of these losers would be happy running benchmarks on a data centre rather than playing games.

This is a donkey kong game from Nintendo what did you really expect. Most of their audience playing this game will not even notice the fps drop or cares about fsr/dlss and that's exactly why the game is shipping in that state.

The reviews kinda speak for that. Game looks fun as hell.

Not to mention its not like the drops are hyrule warriors AoC terribad level of quality

The so called "standard" is about people sitting their ass and whine about graphics every time new game comes out.

I personally glad devs focusing on things matters the most rather than trying make bunch of crying graphic whores on internet happy.
 
What's great about this age in gaming is you can make a great game that focuses on fun, and it doesn't have to check all the graphical boxes the pinheads put in place for it to be a great game.
 
It won't matter too much, but 8 years and moved platforms and still not enough juice on a launch title? Doesn't look good this early on. Guess this really is a Switch pro in disguise. Also no VRR in docked mode sucks too. Playing it tonight for sure.

I think did great, maybe they could do more but let's not pretend Nintendo are technically incompetent or something, they're some of the best devs out there from a technical standpoint and hardly get matched, the game looks very smooth with some dips here and there but that's about it.

I mean, if it was a cinematic third person shooter with over the shoulder camera and with barely any interaction with the environment I could understand your statement of it has dips but it's clearly isn't.

Really Nintendo ninjas must have obscure story with some of you that you can't talk about publicly or something for you guys to be so frustrated with others not being issues on everything from them 😂

We hold all games to a high standard as we should as enthusiasts & consumers, weird how ya feel more persecuted when it comes to Nintendo.

Double Buffered V-sync is unacceptable in 2025. You guys can downplay it all ya want. FSR1 is also dog shit. Why can't you guys just admit these things are issues, you can still enjoy the game lol

I already responded why DLSS can't be used for this game, and claiming it only has FSR 1 instead of SMAA + FSR is moving the goal post:

As for the double buffered vsync, I'd agree if the game wasn't a platformer or if Switch 2 could use VRR on every TV available but that's not the case and Nintendo is prioritizing input lag and preventing tearing.

If this was your typical slow AAA shooter I'd agree this would be a weird decision but now in this case. I'd like some option for disabling it tho, but everyone knows that ain't happening lol

I didn't claim it only had FSR1 I just said the use of FSR1 is baffling with how poor of an upscaler it is. Yea they're definitely prioritizing input lag with those extended drops to 30fps huh?

I don't even know what they mean. Wtf is double V-sync, why is it bad? why should I care?

No but I even heard that from Jeff Grubb, like it was his first reaction to the console. Like we know what a pro console is, we saw that with the DSi, the New 3DS, the PS4/PS5 Pro and the One X, like basically the same console but with slightly better running games, not a 1.5 gen jump

Not utilizing DLSS and dropping from 60fps to 30fps in boss fights is unacceptable.
It's so bad I am considering returning my copy or at the least not opening until talk of a fix happens.

Double buffered vsync won't be the end of the world in portable play or when VRR is on the dock, but in the here and now it is a bit shit for docked play. FPS drops are fine, but the sudden shift from 60->30 is jarring. The lack of DLSS is disappointing, but hardly a dealbreaker. Just that odd choice of vsync is.
