[Digital Foundry] Ghost of Yōtei - PS5/PS5 Pro - A Triumphant Sequel... With Ray Tracing! - 4K HDR Video

Nice that Pro owners get some RT lighting at 60fps. Would including the NPCs in the RT lighting coverage and not just the player character really have been that much more demanding? The eventual PC version should allow you to get greater coverage.

- Supports multiple graphics mode, Quality, Performance, Ray Tracing
- PS5 Pro offers RT at 60fps with GI 'with some limitations', adds an extra pass of lighting
- Not as robust as games designed around RTGI but results are good all the same
- Results are similar to software based Lumen
- Traditional rasterized lighting is similar to original game
- Volumetric clouds, weather effects and dynamic foliage praised
- HDR implementation praised
- Texture detail on weapons and character accessories praised

- Distinction between the high quality cinematics and regular conversation scenes noted
- Conversation scenes have limited animation, simplified lighting comparatively
- Movement animation going up and down is still odd like the first game
- Reflections use mixture of SSR and cube maps, but SSR artifacts and mis-matching cube maps can appear

- Base PS5 has 3 graphics mode, Pro has 4

- PS5 pro defaults to 4K/30, this version gives the best IQ, base PS5 targets a little below 4K at 30
- Performance mode targets 60fps without RT, 1440p on Pro and 1080p or slightly above on Base
- "Normal" RT mode at 30fps targets 1728p on Pro and 1440p on Base
- "RT Pro" offers 60fps with RT and uses PSSR, running around 1080p with IQ good on most scenes, but can show signs of noise in some elements, other elements show more stability than other modes with IQ comparable to 4K mode
- None of the modes are 'bad per say'

- Performance profile is mostly flat, 30fps modes are locked 30 pretty much everywhere
- 60fps mode is also locked majority of the time on both Pro and Base
- One battle shows drops to mid/low 50's, however a patch promises improvements in big battle areas
- Beyond frame rate, DF ran into some odd issues, sound dropped out entirely in some areas and the entire game froze for 20~ seconds

- The rest is about the audio.

No no no this is too positive on the graphics, please delete this thread and notify DF that they need to delete the video from all platforms so we can get back to being mired in negativity. Thanks OP.

No 40fps mode?! Come on SP, y'all can do better!

Slightly above 1080p with solid 60fps on base Ps5. Nice.
Thank god for Sony studios focusing on performance and decent IQ over graphics this gen.

There's plenty of 720p 45 fps UE5 games for people who bitch about graphics to go enjoy.

The thread has been open for almost an hour and barely a page has been left. The haters and trolls who have been fudging the game for months, saying it's for PS4 or posting the worst images possible to make the game look bad and make fools of themselves have no choice but to eat crow. There will be another time.

Did it? Those pics showed a clear lack of ideal indirect lighting coverage.
Obviously we all can only work with the info we have so far. This was a pleasant surprise for all of us. Not a knock an any of you. I just remembered the exchange so had to quote it. So much has changed in 24 hours!

How were people to know if they never showed it off. The games marketing baffles me
They can't. And yeah, baffling indeed! May be they knew the embargo lift a weeks prior, so there is sufficient time for people to recalibrate expectations

Maybe "people" could refrain a bit from jumping to conclusion prematurely calling them incompetent ;)? Worth a shot :P.
That thread from a couple of days ago with the quote from the devs saying they did things with the PS5 that couldn't be done on PS4 aged like milk out of the fridge on a warm summer day. So many lovely replies.

Wait, so now we LIKE Digital Foundry? Make up your mind guys!
I don't like Digital Foundry but it has been obvious this game has good graphics.

You realize Sucker Punch never shared that the game has an RT mode in any of the pre-release coverage right? It's their own fault.

The rasterized, non-RT, lighting looks the same as the first game per DF, so all those comments are correct.
most people have no taste or ability to discern what looks good so they fall back on buzzwords and feature lists
