Digital Foundry : Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer 2 Tech Breakdown - Incredible Realism, Impressive RT, Astonishing Detail

2560 x 1152 if his calculation is correct for a rough resolution count.

Possibly using FSR1 / some kind of spatial upscaler.

So you bought a PS4, never spent any more money on anything for it and got a $9 RDR2??
Are we going to be pedantic?

Once again, never paid full price for any PS4 game, ever. When the PS4 launched, Best Buy had GCU, which you could got 2+ years for free when you purchased a $5 prepaid phone card. That was 20%+ off all new games. Thus, games were only $44-$48 instead of $60. You also got rewards points for BB for purchases which converted into rewards coupons $5, $10, $20, etc..

Then you buy the game with the Sony credit card, which gives 5X the points for Sony Electronics or PlayStation purchases. Those points convert very well into PSN currency or physical games in their catalog.

They also had a rewards program tied to it where you get tons of points for unlocking achievements/trophies in games you play. Those were repeatable. Like quests. All those points added up to even more money off for just playing games and doing this you would normally do anyhow. No stress.

They stopped that program because it was insanely easy money and they had to be losing a ton. But now they have their Stars program, which again, gives you points for things you buy, on top of the Sony card points you are using, on top of getting points for just playing games.

All this adds up to where I never payed full price for a game in over 10 years. I've always paid 50% of less for new games (on average), etc.. They have the same sales on games as Steam and the like does, then there's the physical market for consoles that have even deeper sales or second hand.

Once again, the "PC is always cheaper" is an old and tired argument for the past decade. Even the humble bundles and Steam sales are not what they used to be 10+ years ago.

So you had to spend money and time to get the discounts. That is not really cheaper. 🤷‍♂️

All this talk about 60fps, but what about 40fps? It makes such a huge difference compared to 30fps already. I'd settle for that.

It's definitely amazing being able to see the sweat on characters' skin, imagine describing that to someone during the PS2 era GTAs, it feels like what we would see 20+ years on from the original games.

Especially freaky when you compare it to the 1997 original, I remember 1997 well, am I... am I old?

Oooff. Imagine a 60fps mode. 720p.
What's oof about 1152p, a resolution that will likely be upscaled in any case? The image shown thus far looks pin sharp. You won't be counting the individual pixels onscreen come this game's release, and I also doubt a 60 fps mode will be included; Rockstar never do so for console, as they're trying to maximize fidelity.

And "remaster" revenue streams down the line. The CEO said so as much.

Probably not, since the naysayers on here were saying it only looks that good because it was all "cinematic cut-scenes."

I bet him shooting out the window was gameplay, with the camera moved since you can do that in GTAV. An improvement to shooting out a car window too since the previous game only the arm stuck out, now you have full body over the shoulder camera adjustment.
The shot of Jason riding on the motorcycle was very likely gameplay as well.

100% since this looks right out of RDR2 when opening doors yourself coming out of a scene and the character still talking and animating.

And man that lighting looks so good. Rivals UE5 Lumen, IMO.

The attention to detail as well, down to the doorbell, it's ring attachment for the wiring, and the dual wires.

hype is firmly in check until I see how AI systems, damage and physics models are improved. a nice coat of paint over the gimped gta 5/rdr2 engine would be super disappointing.

If I see a single npc standing up and sprinting away (or simply dying) after getting shot in the kneecap I'm waiting for PC mods

People have to know what to look for when dealing with Rockstar and gameplay moments; the newest trailer most definitely had a bunch sprinkled in, and even at the very start when Jason walks into the house. That was a tell-tale RDR2-esque transitional moment. In any case, I don't know how people manage to not remember that Rockstar's games are some of, if not the best in the industry for perfectly transitioning their cutscenes to live gameplay. Cutscene graphics to gameplay graphics share near perfect parity in something like RDR2.

I'll be buying this game twice, definitely. Once the PC port comes out, another play-through will be happening on my accord.

It's certainly not ideal, but I can accept 30fps with that kind of visual fidelity. I'd hope for at least a 40fps mode on the pro, but rockstar doesn't have the best track record when it comes to pro modes. We'll see.

John Linneman: "There are rough reflections in here, err, you pointed out a nice one around 1:36 if you look here - it's a very suitably rough reflection that actually looks really, really great... butt"

It is a shit resolution even for DLSS. Combine that with 30fps shit show...

I think 30fps would actually be reasonably acceptable and even fine, if it were something like a Bungie 30fps, which used to feel remarkably responsive and snappy, considering. But I know Rockstar's 30fps gameplay profile, and watching this footage I can almost see the rendering latency players are going to feel; the sluggish sense of wading through mud when controlling the character is going to be stark. This is why their games have a heavy reliance on auto lock-on with the aiming reticule - the engine's heavy latency simply can't keep up in a way that would allow for necessary precise and timely target acquisition that players are used to in other third person shooting games on console, so they default to easy auto aim as a crude solution. It has long been a problem with Rockstar open world stuff, and it's why even if I were on PS5, I'd still wait for the inevitable next gen remaster i.e. 60fps.

Since GTA6 is not coming out on consoles and pc at the same time, some are trying to push the narrative that the console version will be pointless due to hardware limitations. I guess that's a way to cope, but if we're talking strictly about console gamers, nothing has ever stopped them from playing GTA on their platform of choice, nothing.

FSR1?

Please no...
Hair has pretty horrible artifacts in motion both trailers, plenty time to fix it, especially on ps5pr0 with its pssr ai upscaling, which would be logical choice from rockstar, we will know closer to or at launch 4sure.

When did 1440p equivalent pixel density become shit resolution? It's 1152p because they added black bars for the trailer, which won't be in the final game. At that pixel density, it looks pretty good even without AI upscaling.

If even 4k + DLSS quality is still a little blurry what do you think 1152p FSR1 is???

4k + DLSS quality is not 4k. It's 1440p. Same as the trailer. A little blurry, sure. Not shit.

Since it was combined with 30fps and FSR1.

I didn't say it is 4k native. I meant to set your resolution to 4k and enable DLSS quality. That is how it works on PC.

If 4k + DLSS quality is not up to your visual standards then I don't know what to tell you, the game was always going to be a let down for you so why bother whining about it.

Did I say DLSS quality is not up to my standards??

Seems like a worthy tradeoff for this type of game.
This type of game makes everything blurry with artifacts ok how? Because afaik, not a single type of game is ok like this. Maybe F2P games.

You said it is "a little blurry"

this is a high-end game with the highest production values ever. It's running on a fixed piece of hardware. It's annoying to see people whine about numbers without a finished game and with no context. Just yesterday everyone was raving about how good it looked and Rockstar said it's captured off a Ps5. But today because DF came down from the mountain with a proclamation of the pixel counts the whining starts. I really don't understand what people want and expect and why the DF pixel count matters so much.

I said but I never said anything about where I draw the line. And I was not raving anything yesterday.

Where is this "everything blurry with artifacts" happening? Some screenshots would be useful.
In every game before with that kind of resolution + FSR1. If this is the first game that IQ don't suck in the end, good.

tbh there were so many people who said that 30fps is unplayable and that 60fps is the new standard for consoles, but now they are turning a blind eye to GTA VI at 30fps

What if the game supports the pro and gives you 4k DLSS quality level IQ via updated PSSR next year? Would you still find it unacceptable because of 30 FPS?
