We're one step closer to achieving the dream. PlayStation 5 will soon receive its first emulated PlayStation 3 game.

Buying the Cloudberry Kingdom package on the PlayStation Store gives you access to three downloadables: the native PS4 and PS5 apps, alongside the Cloudberry Kingdom: PlayStation 3 Edition. This is also a PS5 app, running the RedoEngine emulator. Loading up this version, you're presented with a very Sony-like joypad explainer, detailing how the Dual Shock 3 controls map onto today's Dual Sense controller.

Pausing the game also exhibits different behaviour between the PS5 native and PS3 emulated versions: on the latter, there is support for save states, for example. From thereon out, the game presents very similarly to the PS5 version, just running at a lower resolution (1080p, in line with the original, 4K on PS5) - and with a few minor issues that will be addressed in an upcoming patch.

This is clearly not a very technically demanding game. Even so, it is a good start, and could hopefully open the door toward getting more PS3 games brought to users of current systems.

I was playing PS3 games years before PC gamers could emulate them. Even cooler.
True. Just when I was playing PC stuff which PS3 could not handle. Neither could its successor.

Even Microsoft have been more adequate with their backwards compatibility. Which is saying a lot.

I have no idea why the possibility of a PS3 emulator triggered you so much you had to immediately come in and shitpost.

Who says I'm triggered? Or are you just projecting?

I simply can't help but laugh at Sony gaslighting their audience how this was impossible, just for them to be humiliated by devs who are not affiliated with Sony in any way, while still doing a much better job than they ever did. At least now with them backpedaling on their "PS5 can not into PS3 games" narrative, they can finally have some good first-party stuff on the platform.

You were right, I was totally projecting. You seem like a well-adjusted individual that doesn't carry any deep grudges. Carry on.
