It is impressive that so much work went into it, but still

Well it was (and possibly still is) getting a TV Show. They want all their games to be updated for that sort of stuff so that when people play it (because they watched the show) they are truly impressed by how good it is. Sony wants anyone who is playing these games because they watched the TV Show\Movie to truly be impressed and possibly try out more games.

I don't think anyone doubted it would look better. I mean no shit, that's the entire point of the project.

The criticism comes from the viewpoint that the idea of remastering a 7 year old game and trying to sell it for $50 is stupid. And nothing here has changed that.
If you already own the game, it's just €10.

If you never bought the game, it isn't full priced.

Absolutely no idea what the issue is? It's like people are trying to come up with the most petty complaints every other day.

They also increased price of PS4 version before releasing this.

Is is worth 70 usd no. Is it worth 10 usd yes.
It is worth $70 if you have never bought the game and have never played it. I don't know why people do this... if you have the game already, then its worth $10. At least that I agree with.

The smart thing for any new buyer would be to just buy the complete edition for $40 and then pay for the $10 upgrade separately. If they were luck they could have bought it when it cost $20 or whatever before its price hike.

Pretty underwhelming IMO.
When they focus on close up detail it's more apprent but in several of the shots where they show actual non zoomed in gameplay I had to look at the lower corner to double check which side was which version.

For a $10 upgrade it's fine though

I don't think so. If $10 can be a pro, increasing the price of PS4 can be a cons.
They gave the complete edition away for free to everyone who wanted it.

Starting April 19, 2021

But there’s more to come later this spring. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition will be available for free download between April 19 8:00pm PT / April 20 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST and May 14 8:00pm Pacific Time / May 15 04:00 BST / 05:00 CEST.

We’ll have more to share soon. We appreciate the support from the PlayStation community, and hope you enjoy our latest content drop – please stay safe and thanks for playing!
If you didn't pick it up then, that's a you problem.

Why does this exist god knows why ,
I've played horizon have a pretty good idea how it looked what the story was
There are so many ipz of Sony that they can remaster
Like jak and daxter , killzone to name a few.
10 dollars or 70 dollars this was just not needed

I didn't care for what little I played of the first game. I wish Sony and Guerilla would move on from this franchise. And nothing about the PS5 Pro or its "upgrades" looks worthwhile.

And how long would it take to remaster those games with zero useable assets or code? Which game engine would they use? How many people would it take and how long compared to remastering Horizon that can use assets, engine, code from ZD and FW?

Preordered the upgrade. I already have the platinum, but my daughter is going to play it with all the snazzy upgrades. Can’t wait to watch.

I'd love to know what games the people play that think Horizon is a bad game/franchise. Bet there would be some turds show up.

The best thing about the first game was backstory, this was the biggest motivator to finish the game. Gameplay is above average. Second game has much weaker story and about the same level of gameplay (maybe a bit better?). What kept me playing there was eye candy and of course I wanted to know how story will end (despite it being much weaker).

I play some serious trash tier games but I’m not evangelising over here about them. That’s the difference. Knowing that you’re munching poo.

Isn’t it super late for euroGAF to be up? I thought I was the only one here who’s lost control of his life.

I have night shift today, it's currently 3:00. But I always prefer night...

...And what would they sell?

I personally believe a good J&D remaster and a Killzone 2 redo could catch a good deal of nostalgia sales (and Bloodborne is way overdue, even if the original was only a fan-fave seller,) but there's not mountains of gold to mine anymore in all these old games that GAFers remember but the average game-buyer would need convincing to care about. The quick remaster era has cooled off a lot (despite the tech being easier than ever; the Jak decompile is awesome and Sony could potentially co-opt it like CD did OpenLara.) These re-release productions need to be carefully reconsidered for feasibility and cost, and they need to be strategic for the given franchise. There is no Jak or Killzone TV show/movie being produced, no sequel games being made by the developers, so not much reason to do it.

Killzone and J&D? Probably not that many if I'm to be honest (and I love both franchises). But the fact is, this Horizon remaster would have been made by very few people, would have cost very little to make and would have taken max1-2 years to make.

We know there are loads of games to remaster/remake out there, but a lot of these are old games, they would need to pretty much be made from scratch so would take almost as long as making any new game (much longer than it took them to make ZD Remaster). Demons Souls took Bluepoint what? 4-5 years to make?

This was made by Nixxes, they were bought to do PC ports and remasters, not to do full blown remakes (currently), they have done exactly what they were bought to do, it's not wasting anyone's time and it's not stopping Sony from doing remakes with a different studio. They will also have done two PC ports within 12 months while also making the ZD Remaster.

This project is an utter waste of time and resources.

There was no reason to remaster the original Horizon, which already looks like a very good game graphically.
