DiRT Rally is available on Steam Early Access

I went ahead and bit the bullet...bought this and ran a quick race to check everything out

add me to the people who have no navigator audio or on screen indicators for the directions...no idea what's causing that...I hope Codemasters is seeing that this is an issue and gets a quick fix out there

I'm not so good at this.

But I'm getting better.

stupid early access question...

from the wording on the twitch stream, it sounds like if you purchase the game for early access you get all the upcoming dlc free "while the game is in early access". not being familiar with pc gaming and early access stuff, is this saying that once the game is out of "early access", i'd have to rebuy the game? or is it just saying anything released as dlc after the game is officially out (and not in early access) would have to be purchased?

Second option

You don't have to rebuy the game. What they said is if you buy the game in early acces, you'll get every content (see roadmap in the OP) they add later (during the EA period) for free. Once it launches properly and they decide to make paid DLCs you'd only have to pay for the DLCs.

I picked it up. Seems very cool, but yeah, no turn direction audio or map of any kind is showing up for me which makes it a bit tougher.

EDIT: What are people starting off with for assists and controller sensitivity? Using an XB1 controller for now, will probably try my DFP wheel down the road.

ugh i turned off all my firewalls and i get error 41 'steam servers too busy' when trying to install. wtf, is this a common problem?

Did the price go up since this morning? I thought I read that it was $24.99, even saw some people in this thread commenting that it was just slightly above that $20 impulse-buy mark. Now it's $31.49 on Steam.

Nope. Still the same for me. 27€ with the 10% discount. What I do remember is someone wishing it was sub-20 and then a response saying yeah, it's just past impulse buy territory. You might misremember that.

If this game is anything like dirt 2 and 3 there will be a lot of hardcore mods at some point, like extreme damage, bigger smoke and dirt effects, all that kind of stuff.

Aiee, I'm not getting any pace notes or anything. It's basically impossible to play like this.

Patch pls! Looks great otherwise!

More than anything else (and I'm yet to read the 5 pages of this thread already) I'm surprised that Steam plays trailers in Firefox at 60fps.

PS. Early access? Yay. $32USD? Nooooo.

Gonna wait a little until I hear they make some fixes to the initial problems people have, but I am completely fucking into this.

I liked the earlier Dirt series, but I have always wanted a fun new rally game that focused completely on the rally and this is exactly what I wished for.

I'm even more surprised that the Eurogamer preview/interview was actually written by someone who enjoys and is respected as a motorsport game journo. Surprise!

Edit: WHAT THE FUCK?!? The lead designer on this was ALSO THE A DESIGNER ON SEGA RALLY (REVO)!!!

Of course, he was also chief designer on Showdown...

Early access means the game is not finished.

I'm pretty familiar with the early access thing.

Pace notes are already in the game. The fact that they're not playing for me is a bug. It's unfortunately very difficult to play a rally game without knowing what's coming up.

got it working. ima stream gameplay (with my own tunes since its a racing game so the first thing i do is disable game music) if anyone wants to see how it runs. i've got a 650, benchmark said 50 fps avg peaks at 60 which sounds like a sweet spot to me setup wasn't too bad

This game needs to take a page from the bizarre creations book about 3D spectators, they should react if you crash near them instead of standing there with no soul, not even looking at the car.

PGR3 and 4 did it right with spectators which reacted and cheered for you depending on what you did, it was a small but extremely important detail.

Richard burns rally has a cool recover animation where you see a few spectators pushing your car after the fade out like they helped roll it back onto it's wheels, just like real rally racing.

Watching the video, is there really no terrain deformation?

For a rally game I would think that'd be one of the main arieas that they should have in a game, so the dirt/mud/snow, etc gives way under your tires and the speed and isn't just the same as pavement in terms of it being "solid."
