DiRT Rally is available on Steam Early Access

Did the first few stages. Love the handling. Graphics are outdated but I'm so happy we finally have a good rally game again that I really can't complain.

It looks pretty nice graphically from videos, at least compared to dirt 3

I went back to play dirt 3 for a bit a few weeks ago (with the dlc being added to all versions for free) and man that game did NOT age well graphically.
People who think this doesn't look better than dirt 3 should go back n play dirt 3:p

Same GPU here. Constant 60fps at 1440p (VSR) in Ultra.

This game feels good. Love the "cut the bullshit" approach, a clean UI and just damn good rally stages with more realistic physics, better sound, rain, snow and day/night...

HUDless dashcam with rain is insane, not up to Driveclub level in the windshield effects but feels great.

I tried on the first championship yesterday and its awesome and so but one thing Im wondering about is the penaltysystem when you reset the car on the road.

I did some extensive research on the subject and I dont know why some penalties were 5 seconds and some were 14 seconds. Didnt seem to be a connection between my hilariously bad visits in the forest and the time penalty.

Oh well, I should stay on the road in the future...

Hopefully enough of you PC folk buy this so it eventually comes to next gen consoles. Colin Mcrae was part of my childhood. Going well in a sector than falling back but than getting it in the third was thrilling and amazing. Keep up the photos and videos because it looks amazing.

Quick question. How does the handling compare to other Dirt games? Loved it in 1, but 3 felt weird to me. Havent played 2 for wath its worth.

Would this run decently on a 2500k with a 750ti? And is it enjoyable with a controller?

Yep. Your rig is better than my lowly i3 and 860m, and I run it at 1080p and 59 fps on the high setting. I have't tried AA though. Game controller is also more than adequate.

Thanks amigo, your fans will go nuts when they see this. Post this comment on youtube.

alt+enter works to put it back to fullscreen but yeah...it's annoying that it does that

There's a side effect to the game dropping from full screen though, it loses your downsampled resolution. EGO engine games are perfect for downsampling because they run so well but if you happen to alt-tab every now and then, there's no point in downsampling because you have to constantly restart the game (or quit to main menu at least) to get the resolution back.

So a fix would indeed be very nice, even though alt+enter puts it back into full screen.

Is it colliding with spectators? I haven't played it but it looked like they got a big penalty for that in the eurogamer video.

That is a tricky one to answer! It is a lot more unforgiving and probably more comparable to the old Colin McRae games (for their time). Push the car to the limit is a real challenge and being 1 metre off your breaking point will mean you flying off a cliff. The DiRT games would let you easily get away with minor errors like that where as DiRT Rally is punishing but super rewarding.

I played a few races last night and I think it feels great, the FFB could do with a little bit of a boost but the actual handling and pure terror when you are going above 50mph is fantastic. I don't think I have been this focused on a racing game in a long time and immersed enough into the game that I'm holding my breath over bumps/jumps hoping not to go flying off the track. Also I found myself lifting my head higher to try see over certain crests then remembering I'm looking at a 2D screen :D

It is going to take me some time to really be able to push a car around these routes! But for now I'm still loving it and getting better after each round.

Thanks. I guess I have to play the game itself to get the feel. For me, what I didnt like in Dirt 3 (and in Grid 2) was how the handling felt less loose? compared to say Dirt 1.

It's very unforgiving if you go off track of screw up, and it's very minimalistic on the frills, I would be 0% superised I this game didn't bother with consoles, honestly I see more bad press and returns and bitching coming from a console base, most people who want to play racers like this have a PC bc that's where games like this thrive nowadays.

Don't hold your breath.

I love headcam but without a working co pilot or indicators headcam is out of the question until that's fixed , way way too much of a handicap without a co driver

Hope they get that fixed real soon. They sure know about it from the Steam forums.

Also, I would dig deep in my pockets to have this guy as a co-driver DLC. NSFW - Swearing

Mang why'd they have to go and drop this on the day I sent my TV in for repairs? :(

Also, how big is this download? I'm new to (modern) PC gaming/steam/downloading anything bigger than a little indie or Nintendo game, so no idea what to expect size-wise for this kind of game.

I've been waiting for this ever since Dirt 2 and 3 didn't have enough rallying for me (though I still loved those).

Tried this out last night when I got home. Oh man, I'm terrible. Really missing the lack of flashbacks haha!

I'm running a Fanatec CSR wheel and the force feedback feels really off for me when not on tarmac, the car feels ridiculously light even with the wheel strength set to 100.

Think I need to upgrade my PC at long last too. With triple monitors I had to run the game on the 'Low' graphics setting, couple that with having to set everything to Low (or off) in pCARS? Yeah, it doesn't look great at all.

I think the DL was 7GB or something.

Also, I'm horrible at driving apparently.

Watching the video, is there really no terrain deformation?

For a rally game I would think that'd be one of the main arieas that they should have in a game, so the dirt/mud/snow, etc gives way under your tires and the speed and isn't just the same as pavement in terms of it being "solid."

Yeah, Sega Rally Revo was doing this 8 years ago.

Haha, great :)

Will probably buy this game, rally is probably my favorite racing game type.

Is it really hard? I will play with a gamepad and I don't want it to be too hardcore, previous CMR games were fine by my standarts.

Id say it's like dark souls level difficulty. If you fall off the track once your reset penalty is going to make it nigh impossible to win. But if you buckle down and don't make mistakes it's all doable. I wouldn't recommend it to people who can't zone in and really be cautious. You're a lot better off coming to a dead stop and fixing yourself then you are falling off the skinny tracks and trashing your vehicle for your whole run. It's very fun but if you're not super into sims you might wanna wait for more content. If you are into them this game is the shit

Hmm I've only played the slow 1960s cars so I don't have the best experience from proper feedback yet but those don't drift all that much as you can imagine! The steering has been quite tight and fairly responsive the biggest challenge has come with momentum of the car and bumps/chamber throwing it off line.

I bet with the more powerful modern cars they will be a lot more backend happy. The tracks are also a lot more narrower and tight so you are less likely to be hitting corners at 80mph+ for a massive drift like you would of in the Dirt Trailblazers events,

The game has the potential to be something quite special. The handling is great and the sound design is phenomenal. I quite like the team management and upgrade/tuning capabilities.

I haven't felt this compelled in quite a while. Looking forward to seeing how the game progresses..

Don't forget the Fulvia and such are FF.

Would love to see ground displacement. That's what I want from a rally game, to cut into the dirt, gravel and mud, bank into corners and just not glide over a stretched out texture.

Would also love to see these kind of details implemented into the game. I'm hoping to see some new ideas and features down the track..

Feels fantastic, sound is phenomenal.. FFB a little off with my T500 however, but it's alpha after all. I'm sure some FFB setups will come out even before the next patch hits

The handling is right up there with RBR. Tricky and unforgiving. The only difference is on rbr if you crash, most of the times thats stage over, whereas on dirt rally you can reset.
It would be nice if you could turn on RBR levels of damage to add that extra panic as you are bombing down a stage.

The handling on dirtrally is far far more advanced and better than any previous codies effort. Dirt's handling was arcadey so not a comparison.

Stratos in the forest, in the rain, at night..

Woah. Fuck me this game looks glorious. This is what I've been dreaming of since Richard Burns Rally. Codemasters in one fell swoop could undo all of their crappy "racing" games heritage in one fell swop with this. It seems dedicated to hardcore rally gamers, so please please let's not see it watered down to appeal to more and more people until we just end up with the same crap they've been pumping out already.

I need this on PS4 plus with Morpheus support! It can be done!

As for the graphics, maybe running on an older engine but they've got decent rain effects and the lighting is top notch. To me it looks fantastic, and the sound is superb too. GIVE IT TO ME

Full Car List - 17 Total (so far)

1960's - Mini Cooper S, Lancia Fulvia HF

1970's - Fiat 131 Abarth, Ford Escort Mk II, Lancia Stratos

1980's - BMW E30 M3 Evo Rally, Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500

Group B - MG Metro 6R4, Audi Sport quattro Rallye, Ford RS200, Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2, Lancia Delta S4

Group A - Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Subaru Impreza 1995, Lancia Delta HF Integrale

2010's - Mini Countryman Rally Edition, Ford Fiesta RS Rally

also the Subaru Impreza 1995 has a special Dirt Rally livery for Early Access buyers (and also has a Dirt 3 livery...no idea if that's for everyone or just people who have Dirt 3 installed)

Check either of the posts quoted in #552.

Yeah...it's one of the two 1960's cars in the game so far...go back a page and I put up a full car list for the 17 in the game at the moment

Oh my God, I may have to move forward my new PC build for this, that is an AMAZING car list. Add in a Renault 5 Turbo and a Celica GT-Four and I would be buying the parts right now :D

Yeah, I'm sure later down there line there will be a full on sim mode where one off track trip will cost you the race. For now the it still has some elements of it being a game which I think is fantastic, it is crossing the bridge of full sim that will take hours upon hours of practice to become playable and the arcade-sims such as pCARS, Forza and such.

After talking with some friends last night the best comparison I have for this game is Bloodbourne the racing game, at first you will struggle to make it round the track but each race around a route will give you the confidence to become a bad ass rally driver.

Subaru Impreza, Lancia Delta, Audi quattro - glad to see my favorite rally cars are already included.

It's cheaper if you buy it right now. You'll get all the content updates (of the main game) for free.

If you wait you'll have to pay more after each content update.

So what you're saying is it's an investment, right? And investments are good. How could I not buy it, flawless logic! ;-)
