Have joined the league.

After my attempt at the first couple of stages I'm almost tempted to say allow restarts in future, but it's that much more enjoyable with them off.

NeoGAF League

Alright, hit the link above to join the NeoGAF League. We start out with a short season, running from now until 23:59 on Saturday. I assume that's CET, but keep an eye on the timer. A new event opens every day at midnight. Each event has two stages. Between events you'll have chance to fix your car. Don't worry if you can't race every day, once an event becomes available it stays open until Saturday night. The first short season starts in sunny Greece and ends with a long stage in rainy Wales.

Let me know if you want anything changed or want to see a certain car and track combination. Once hill climbs are in the game we can include those as well to add some variation.

It's open to everyone!

Thanks for setting this up. Will join later :)

Nice, there are already 18 people signed up for the GAF league! Can't wait to get home tonight and run my stages to see just how low I rank amongst the GAF racing crowd!!!! :D

So I bought the game, took my G27 out for the first time in 2015, plugged it in, calibration is off a bit, can't seem to fix it, but it not to bad so I go on and play. The more I play the more the calibration is off...

Apparently it's broken, so i'm now trying to RMA my G27 wheel.

I tried playing with a keyboard, bad idea.

There seems to be a lot of competition for last place in our league, I'm beginning to get worried that I might not actually be the worst racer from GAF.....

What the hell, I can't play the game anymore :( My PC was pretty sluggish, so I decided to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 8.1. Now I can't launch Dirt Rally anymore. I click play in Steam, get the "preparing to launch Dirt Rally" popup and then absolutely nothing happens.

When I try to launch the game directly via the drt.exe I get an Application Error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)". Apparently that has something to do with the Visual C++ Redistributions, so I uninstalled them all, cleaned the registry and installed every redist from 2005-2013 again to no avail :(

Does anyone else have the same problem. Is there any solution? I miss my daily dose of Dirt :(

Help?! :'(

I've joined the league as well, and have promptly placed second to last.

This game is perfect for me, I've only ever been interested in rally racing games and only the solo checkpoint races.
I'm pretty terrible at it, but it still feeels so good to take a corner perfectly and just gunning it on the straigth-a-ways.

I'm not last in the league event anymore...VICTORY

the sad thing is I'd be close to the top 5 without the penalties so I need to cut those out next time

It's not a bug though. It's great you are using https but why use it exclusively? Allow http for your blogposts :) Using a better certificate is the better solution though. Thanks for the cody blog link.

Just finished the first league event. Fifth!

Though I admit there was a bit of an unintentional cheat: the game crashed halfway through the second stage so I had to play it again. I had two penalties before that I managed to avoid the second time, so throw 30 seconds onto my time if it makes you feel better.

Project Cars is available now on consoles and it's reviewing quite well so I don't see why this one can't come to consoles when it's in a finished state.

what does that have anything to do with everyone associating dirt with arcade gameplay? the branding is the problem.

dirt rally sounds 0% less arcade than 'dirt 3'

Looking forward to future Road Books, that was a good summary of the things we're been reading in this thread. That video at the end is pretty great too!

Shit, went out of the track on the last effing turn of the first track of the league. Finished in 10th place there.

Did managed to stay on the track on the second location there, and finished in second. This puts me in 4th place in the standings. Better than I expected. :)

Thanks. Got a 360MB package full of redist packages. Now I get an Appcrash everytime I launch the game. Seems like "ntdll.dll" is responsible for that... sigh :(

Try downloading that DLL file and dropping it at System32 to see if it helps.

LOL, I ran both stages in the league, I'm 15th overall! I went off the track (over the bank) twice on the 1st stage, I'd been racing the Ford Escort so much recently that I needed to get used to the Cooper again. Did much better on the 2nd stage, but that first run screwed me.

I love that second stage, that downhill is so much fun.

Wow, 37 people signed up for the league now. That's awesome!

After spending (according to Steam) 11 hours in this game, I'm starting to get bored due the lack of tracks. I know that there's more to come, but I really hope that there's A LOT more to come, because this game is too good to fall flat like the previous Dirts.

That's the beauty of DR's Early Access, more stuff is on the way. It's like you've already purchased the season pass! So just hang in there. If it's your thing, work on perfecting your times on the courses.

Also, did Codemasters post a stealth update with trading cards? I was surprised to see them in my inventory last night and the store page doesn't mention them as being enabled.

When completing the daily challenge and viewing your leaderboard placement, is there a way to skip to the bottom to see the total amount of entrants? I know you can skip to the top to see the leader.

It's all well and good to know my placement, but I wouldn't mind knowing where I sit on the bell curve

I'm just the opposite, after 10 hours I'm nowhere near bored. I've only bought two cars so far and there are lots of cars I've not even driven yet. Plus I really need to practice more so I can master the tracks that are in the game now.

I feel like I'm just getting started with this game. I'm really looking forward to Pikes Peak though, it's always been one of my favorite rally areas in every game I've played it in. It's also the only rally course I've actually been to in real life.

Ended up with 16th overall, would have probably done a little better if I did not hit a bump on the seconds stage and rocket over the edge :/

Great fun :D Cannot wait to do more.

After reading this thread for a number of pages, I came home and purchased the game. While my controllers are charging, I did a few practice runs with the keyboard, and immediately lost a tire, leading to driving on 3 tires and a rim for the entire race.

I can tell I'm going to like this game.

Just added myself to the gaf league as well.

Just had a closer look...good to see a couple of other Australians in the league (not to mention an Aussie is currently leading!).

Fingers crossed they add some Australian stages down the line, like the older CMR games had.

As a complete newbie to rally games there are two things I'd like to see:

- Consistency with the "recover your car" keybind. Often I've crashed but the on screen prompt doesn't appear (probably because I'm technically on the road), forcing me to reach to the keyboard, press esc, recover car. It's odd. In a related thought, avoiding car damage by tapping recover car while you are actually in flight and upside down seems like cheating and should probably recover a DAMAGED car, if anything.

- One (1) stage with a wider road, something that allows me to learn how to powerslide without going "nope, that didn't work" again and again.

Pretty happy with that 15th place using a keyboard. I had one 14 second penalty right on the turn before the finish line of the first stage, so if I didn't have that, I would've been Top 10!

Next race I'll have my batteries charged. :D

Game is fantastic so far, and I'm still only on the lowest class of cars. Can't wait to check out more of them.

52 people in the league as of now! This should be interesting.

The league webpage makes it look like the first event ends in 16 hours. I was pretty sure I had set it to run until Saturday evening. If it doesn't I'll make sure to fix that for the next season.

I believe Pikes Peak is coming this month in both a dirt/tarmac mix and the modern tarmac variant. It's quite wide in many places so may allow for some powersliding practice.

I'm thinking that maybe the restore car keybind should require you to HOLD the key for 3 seconds. That sounds better than the contextual thing they're using now.

That'd be nice.
