Just start an event to fuck around in and try different angles/speeds/timing of the handbrake and acceleration etc.

Sound advice. Didn't even consider doing an event without the goal of doing my best times.

I know you guys will appreciate this ;)

I love the co-driver, haha.

Brilliant, and that video eventually led me to the WRC page, and I guess I'm in for a months subscription to their streaming service.
Gonna watch me some Vodafone Rally de Portugal live on Thursday.

Keep an eye on Thierry Neuville, blazing fast driver.

Just remember David Higgins took a shot at the record for Pikes Peak (Rally America Class) in an Open Class WRX STi for Subaru Rally Team USA : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X73jEQwHhWA spoiler alert:
he beat the record by 2 seconds @ 6m:09s

Codemasters should watch some of that series, Launch Control is amazing to watch. Maybe even reach out to Subaru Rally Team USA on feedback for Pike's Peak? I know the series features Rally Cross (ugh) as well, but they feature equal amount of pure rally stages.

This was awesome.

He's no Samir but he's pretty good.

You're breaking the car!

Holy shit, ahhahahahaa.

I just bought the Ford Escord MK2, and now I have the three cars of the 70's. It's fun as f*ck, just like the Stratos. I'm more keen to 80's and 90's cars, but I have more fun on the track with the ones from the 70's.

Watching this makes me want to go play Dirt Rally for another hour or so. Great video

Damn, man, why u do this? Now I want that course in the game. :(

Speaking of Rally America, am I the only person who would be (even more) happy if Dirt Rally took some local championship focus (like the Rally America, or the British Rally to name a few) instead trying to emulate an international championship like the WRC? I know that making it international gives more opportunities of totally different places and visuals, and weather, and terrains... but I believe that it would be even more interesting if the game were digging deeper in one rally, letting us know many different parts of a beautiful country like USA, for example.

Nobody will agree with me. It's just my love for Network Q RAC Rally Championship speaking out loud. Sorry.

I crashed and had to retire on the 3rd stage of the Weekly Event. Will I still possibly be able to get in the mid tier for doing alright on the first 2? Or get any credits at all?

That's not Pike's Peak man, that's Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. I know, because I've ridden my Harley up to the top of that very road three times! It's a nail biter at slow and safe speeds, but holy shit watching them fly up that damn road like that makes my palms sweat. The drop off to the side of that road is just scary....

Was in the top ten after the first three stages of the league event, but then fiddled with my force feedback settings in the XML which I'm going to use as my excuse for DNFing the fourth stage and having to retire.

Gutted.

Screwed up my front axel or the suspension or something in the Stratos for the daily event. Kept wanting to pull left after slamming a light pole with my car on trying to speed past it. This fucking game...

Coming from RBR I feel the steering us just too sensitive (g27). Does anyone else feel like the car will turn the other direction too rapidly? Even when you only slightly counter steer? I was having this problem when I tried it with the 360 pad originally but seems to happen with the wheel too.

EDIT: I should mention that overall I think this game is good and a welcome return to rallying that we've all needed!

Im from Portugal and never missed a Rally since i was able to drive a car to go to the stages (15+ years ago), and this year Rally comes to the North, where the passion lives.

Dont forget to watch on Sunday the Power stage, it will be the power stage with more audience in all the country's. Last year it was only a Rally Sprint and we had 120.000 spectators there.

From last year/URL]

Ontopic: i hope they can bring Portugal too after Finland in September.

Depends what you're describing - I find the cars to be quite nervous just off centre on the tarmac stages - like they don't want to track straight. But in terms of overall steering sensitivity I'm quite happy with it once a reasonable rotation is set...

I don't know why I don't follow this sport more often. O_O

what the hell kind of car was that? I think I can read FORD, but GOD DAMN ain't seen a little Ford drive that fast! You bring that to the states, it's looked as an old bucket.
Mad isn't it! The Ford Escort is a classic European Ford - the Mark 1 and Mark 2 were very compact and rear wheel drive, so hugely popular for rally and other racing over the years. The first US Escort was based on the European Mark 3, a horrible, FWD car, and then it seems like the US version evolved into something very different. The Euro Escort was eventually replaced by the Focus, also with famous rally car variants, which I think the US gets too.

Don't say that. My father had two XR3, one MK3 and one MK4. It hurts, man. ;(

This is what I mean, except I find it on all stages (I can't seem the get the car straight!)

After posting I had another go and I think I'm just getting used to it. This may hurt the purists but I think this game is more fun *runs*

My father used to work in a Vauxhall main dealer and come RAC time we would quite regularly see some of these little beasties come pay a visit.

The last of the traditional RWD rally cars before the Group B monsters took over. I would love to have these represented in the game as well.

DiRT 3 had the Opel versions of the Manta and (I think) the Ascona, so they definitely have the models and physics data for the cars around. I don't doubt that they'll show up soon.

Sorry! The ones I drove were bloody awful! But to be fair I've never driven a warm/hot one so perhaps they had a little more appeal... :)

Heh, I was kiddin'. The first two versions never came to Brazil. The "MK3" was the first one to arrive here, so we never had a RWD Escort. Also, they weren't exactly identical to the European versions. So our versions were probably even more lame. :p

But damn, I still love that car!

Damn snow stage took me out of the league running.

Though the second stage did the most damage. Blind corner at speed = going cart-wheel.

Thanks for dropping the knowledge, Idk how I confused the two, in fact, now I'm wondering how I've never heard of Mt. Washington until now? Confusing the two is a positive in this case as Pike's Peak outdoes this stage in popularity by a mile, it's a testament to the stage's respectable Hill-Climb history.

Has it even been in any rally games as a stage that we would've recognized? If not... it's scary enough of a stage that it should be seriously considered a Hill-Climb stage for DiRT Rally at the very least. It could be Pike's Peak's "little brother", well more like it's "older, less popular brother" as it predates Pike's Peak, and it has tons of American History with big names setting records on it.

Well they mention Pike's Peak right at the start of the video, so it's easy to think that it was. They only just barely mentioned that they were going to Mt. Washington for the episode, I only caught it on my second viewing, and I only watched it twice because I've been to both Pike's Peak and to Mt. Washington in person and I knew which one it was just from the looks of it. Well, that and I watched it twice because it was a fucking awesome video!

I was last up there about five years ago, and that was my third time riding up the Climb to The Clouds. It's mostly paved now but there was still a mile or two unpaved back then, I'm not certain if it's all paved now or still partly gravel.

This is me almost to the top, my buddy was crazy to take this pic (riding one handed up that crazy road!) but I'm glad he did , LOL!

Let me tell you, it's no fun riding a Harley on loose gravel going uphill steeply at 5000 ft. elevation with a sheer drop off to your right. Well, it's kinda fun.

The road turns back to paved as you get close to the top.

Once your up there though it's one hell of a view, makes the whole thing worth it.

The thing about Mt. Washington is that the weather can be extreme. This last trip was a real nice day, cold but clear in the middle of July. I've been up there before where it was very windy, and it can turn from beautiful to rainy to stormy in a matter of minutes. The roofs to the buildings are actually chained to the ground, no lie! But on a clear day you can see into five different states, it's great.

Someday I'll take my Subaru Impreza up there just for the fun of it. I've never driven a car up the road, only Harleys.....

Playing with 360 pad, searched for some settings advice, someone here recommended to turn down steering sensitivity to 20 and the other option up to 55-60. Thx, that made it even worse for me, but now I found the perfect setting.
I had to turn sesitivity up to 40, now I have a much better feeling for the cars and how they turn. I'm now only a few seconds behind the 1st place if I don't mess up, before I was always 15-20s behind and battled for 3rd. Made a huge difference, never thought of that.

I bought a DS4 yesterday, and had to practice a bit to get used to it, ended up with 30 sensitivity, and 80 linearity. Every little change can make a huge difference.

A current video of Pikes Peak you should check out. Sébastian Loeb sets a record: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y20CLumT2Sg In 60fps!
This video is tricking my mind!

When concentrating on the audience all the time it feels like they are cut out of paper like the bitmap audiences in prior racing games. Only when he is driving slow around corners you can see they are real people moving etc (and in the beginning the one guy running across the street).

So having bitmap audiences is not a big deal but even more realistic to some degree :D

Encountering kind of a weird bug.

When I start any new stage from scratch (not a restart), the game seems to forget my steering settings, and the wheel becomes much more sensitive. If I pause the game, then either unpause or restart, my settings are restored and the sensitivity is back to where I set it.

Have they stated if they're going to go with mixed or just pavement Pike's Peak?

I don't like how the championships get longer and longer. At some point it becomes pretty dull to race in Wales for the 10th time in a row and with the same car 30 times in a row. And that's only without restarts.

Well, the higher your level, the tougher it gets. I love it the way it is. :)
What is lacking is some more tracks for each country do add some variety.
