We don't call it the Dark Souls of racers for nothin'!
Start slow and try to learn how to approach every type of bend, try to master the Mini/Fulvia first to get used to the roads.
As for configuration, I have different sensitivity and linearity settings for every car (I use a DS4), try every car and change those settings until you feel confident (if you have the time obviously). If you own a wheel, you can check the steam or codies forum for help.

Aye, not bad. I'm hanging tight for a similar cut during the Steam sale so I can grab a gift for a friend. 25% as a base sale price is a promising start, even if it doesn't ever go deeper.
Yeah, I think it'll get a daily deal. I expect someone in here to chime up if it happens! Otherwise, that code expires on the 26th I think... which would be well after the sale finishes (and any chance of a daily deal has passed).
Either way, looks like I'll be getting it for at most $25.

Man, today's daily with the Impreza....normally the Subaru's are my favorite cars in rally games, but DiRT Rally's Impreza is just hard to handle for me. It feels like it's always on ice! I might need to play around with the tuning on that one..

Have you joined the GAF league yet?
Default setup for Impreza is stupid, it's torque bias on diff is set as 90% front 10% back so it's basically a FWD.
Tune it a bit to like 40:60 and it's golden.

Bought the game yesterday.
Holy shit you guys were not kidding that its hard. The 60's are kicking my ass If you recover you're basically already fucked on the timer. With the Lancia from the 60's, going 4th gear and going over 110km/h is damn scary in this game, the sense of speed is perfect. Cant even imagine group B's speed in these races o_o

So the "DIRT Franchise" has appeared as a flash sale for the Steam thing this week... but even though DIRT Rally appears when I click said flash sale, the only one actually on flash sale is DIRT 3.
So I guess that rules out a better price for DR than the 25% off during the summer sale?

so i ended up getting it... price seems reasonable... looking forward to using my relatively new G27 on this, seems like the perfect game for it.
Franchise sale was a good enough sign for me that 25% was the best we are going to get, so I've jumped in. Will be playing with a 360 controller, can't wait!

Yeah, I just watched it too, that video has me all kinds of excited! I actually haven't had many issues with the current FFB, although I'll admit its felt "off" at times. But then I'm no professional race driver either. Still, his description makes me anxious to see what I was missing.

You know, your video made me a bit sad though, because damn you are driving so much better in it than I do, lol. This is a game I really want to practice with and get good at, and watching a video like yours shows me exactly what I need to strive towards.

That's very kind! But honestly I couldn't drive like that using the old FFB, so don't worry if you're struggling. Once you get the update it should make a lot more sense.

First impressions after a few Welsh stages in the Escort MK2 using a G27 and default in-game settings. Profiler at 105% 0% 0% 0% 540º.
Calibration works nicely, although 900º was too much for me and my puny arms so I dropped the rotation in the Logitech software to 540 and disabled soft lock which worked as a good compromise.
On to the driving feel. Having not used my wheel in the game previously, I can't say what has changed but I can say that what is there now is solid. The feeling of weight and inertia through the wheel is quite natural, with counter-steer being intuitive. The only early criticisms I could pinpoint would be an ever present, light ratting which can muddy the signal, hopefully that can be tweaked out. Also the FFB can become a little vague at low speeds. Especially noticeable coming out of hairpins where I was using a fair bit of guess work to keep the back end in line.
Overall, CM have done a nice job. Not quite there with the best sims but a good base to work from.

I dunno. In some cases it seems controllers have also improved but at the same time it also feels harder to control. I dunno how to describe it. Like in the daily, I can feel the "weight" of the Mini without having vibration on but at the same time at 4th gear it seems hard to keep the car on the road. Probably just me sucking.
Either way, I'm glad they added the Sprint/Long designations to the tracks. I wish those would show up in the daily/weekly/monthly to mentally prepare myself for the "journey."

Okay, woah, I'm loving the new FFB. At first it was weird and I crashed a lot, but I just had to unlearn the way it was before. After three stages I started to "get" it and now it feels absolutely fantastic. I mean, if feels so much more natural, like the car and road gives me feedback. I'm finding it so much easier to drift around turns too. I'm still getting used to it but I've already beat one of my fastest lap times on the middle of Pike's Peak.
