Dirt Rally |OT| Don’t Cut, Be Brave

Really want to get this at some point soon, might wait for a sale. Used to love Colin McRae games, and now live at the foot of Pike's Peak and have made that drive (albeit at around 15mph with the wife covering her eyes the whole way) - how they do it at those speeds I have no idea!

Intending to go to the real race this year too...

I was having my first real go at a GAF League event and it was going pretty well (i.e. mid-table finishes), until the 4th stage where I managed to go off a bridge in the snow and that was it.

It was a rough moment.

Got this today, enjoying it so far
Good to see codies return to form although I feel like someone should have at least informed them that the I in A.I stands for intelligence.

I forgot I could choose a different car class, I've been struggling with that damn Mini. What do you think is the best 1600 car?

Whatever you do DO NOT go for the 1600. It is the hardest rallycross season for some reason.

The mini is the easiest and then go straight for supercross.

Setup wise, go for shorter gears and if the track is mostly tarmac/asphalt stiffen the suspension and lower the ride height.

Anybody have a list of which cars are LHD (left hand drive)?

My own car is LHD and I'm finding them easiest to drive in this game.

Oddly, you can't judge it by the country of the car manufacturer. eg. the British Ford Escort RS Cosworth in Group A is LHD

Had a really great few hours last night, was very tired by the end of it and messed up the last two stages of the Online Weekly. Still, looks like the money from that will buy me a new car or two!?

I guess with the driving and tracks being amazing, it's obvious that there was not much effort put into the front end. With only a bit more work it could have been 10/10 the menus and progression structure really need. At this point online is the only place I spend any real time, as it's the only area that feels fresh from session to session. If RBR and the RalliSport Challenge games could do it all those years ago, there's no reason why this hasn't got a more engaging menu system. That's all I think this game is missing: some personality.

Quite a marked reduction in the amount of players in the PS4 league, is there still enough interest to continue?

For me it can continue until there's only a couple of us left. :) I don't think that there are that many GAF players here so the open registration probably even helped. People will be moving on to different games and besides rallies aren't a popular type of motorsports these days.

I would have really liked to see more effort put into the career. The funny thing is these guys have always done a really great job of single player progression. I'm sure that stuff takes more work than I'm factoring in and like you say, I'm more than pleased they spent their modest budget in early access on the really important stuff, but it's just a bit frustrating for a predominantly single player guy like myself.

I've been working away this week so haven't done my run yet - I should think it'll see dips in numbers when the big games land (DS3, U4, NMS) but hopefully it'll recover them again as people come back.

Playing loads after trading my T150 in for a T300rs, it's only a couple of months old and cost a extra £80 on top....still smells new!

What do you think of it m8, i have a T300RS aswell :)

Brilliant wheel, just gotta hope you got a good one. The reliability is an issue sometimes.

When i checked the firmware on the pc is said it was a t300rs 2016 so only a couple of months old, should be fine. :)

Yea, it feel a lot more "taut" with the steering and the brake pedal is firmer then the 150's so having a little time re-learing things.

Just returned to the 60's cars after a lot of time in group B, man they are fun!!!.

How would people feel about restrictions for a single car in the ps4 league?

No. :p I think the current state is great, some people feel unsafe and choose easier cars, some feel cocky and choose harder cars, some choose the most balanced ones.

When you look at Championship standings:

what is the green triangle with a number (2 as I see it now) in it, top left?

and similarly a red triangle with a number (4 as I see it now) in it, bottom right?

Green means your total time got closer to the lead (or further in if you're already in it), and the number means how many places you got in your last run compared to everyone else. Red is the opposite.

I'd be ok with it but I guess the more choices the better if we want to keep an high number of players.

Just joined the PS4 league bros.

One thing that bothers me is that this game and 90% of other rally games, it just does not seem possible to carry your speed or plow through a hairpin with torque. The car just comes to a dead stop or continues to spin until you aren't facing the right way anymore.

Like this for example: https://youtu.be/rI308KrLqkI?t=1m21s

I love this game, but I don't understand it sometimes. I have a lot of experience with the more realistic racing games, so I have a decent idea of what I'm doing. I usually finish well into the top tier on daily events too. I'm currently doing the professional rally driving R4 cars in Greece, and I think I had an awesome first stage. I finish 5th, 33+ seconds behind the leader... that's a huge gap.

Turned down the sensitivity and increased the linearity and the handling is just amazing! I still cannot get first place, but have finished second a few times now, so am improving.

Is there dlc planned for this or is that it?

It's very possible to drive a hairpin like that.

The AI is a bit of a mess in the game.

Multiplayer rally or lack of is going to shorten the lifespan of this game. Please get tweating @dirtgame.Why do developers always seem to miss essential peices in games.

Any codemasters devs active on GAF? I would play your game daily and pay for all DLC if it had multiplayer rally, for now i will play it once a month or not at all, i really don't see any point in getting decent at this game, the league feature is cool but its not cutting it for me.

Don't you think people quitting mid rally would be a massive problem if they did this? Single races online on other games often finish with fewer players then they start with, combined with the big potential for losing a lot of time and an event that's going to take over 10 minutes to run and I think public rallys would end up with very few participants at the end. Rallying is by its nature a solo sport and the asynchronous online of the league suits that.

Sorry, crossed wires. I understand the "place change" column down the right side of the table.

These triangles are something different. I guess it means that the top three rows will graduate to level 2 and the bottom three rows will be relegated to level 4?

Now that I look closer Open/Clubman/Pro/Elite/Master are referred to by those numbers along the top.

I made some comparisons of the game and the real locations (Finland) using Google Maps. It would help a lot if we had free camera.

Onboard video starting from number 7.
WTF, I didn't even realize that in 2012 when I was at Ouninpohja, one of our spots was actually number 5. When I watched one of the videos I recorded, I instantly recognized the yellow house.

They did it previous dirt games and it worked fine mate.I don't really get the jist of what your saying, but an option for private lobby would be cool.

OK on PS4 fwiw

regarding the official online weekly: I did really well in it, top tier, sissy from the final stage where I was bottom tier. When the points where awarded I got only bottom tier. What gives?

edit: not happy with my performance in the weekly :(
