Everything in life can be mocked

Obviously its in poor taste

I doubt there's actual hatred in their hearts for black people or that they are glad Martin is dead.

But people do things for the shock factor and basically getting hysterical about this is precisely the desired reaction among people who do controversial things for the sake of controversy.

Please don't make the mistake of thinking these are not racist pieces of crap here's the idiot with the black face. Check out the language he uses to describe the woman.

I'm sure it's all just taken out of context

Hmm?

Their Facebook really says otherwise.

There were quite a few people saying this exact thing during the court case.

I saw some shit on tumblr about people contacting bosses and jobs of people dressing up as blackface on halloween and saying silly shit

This thread seriously ... you have absolutely no right to not be offended. This group is not going out and hurting anyone or anything by wearing a costume like this. First Amendment etc etc. But if they want to wear stupid clothes to a stupid holiday they are more than entitled to. If they want to offend people around them, that is their American god damn given right to do that.

What are you even talking about? Who said anything about their rights? They can be idiots all they want, no one said they can't.

As deplorable as she is, I would like to get people's opinion on her last line as I think it does have some merit to it. I'm black and know that I'd definitely raise an eyebrow to a shirt that said "White Girls Rock". What type of statement are they making with it?

Apparently some white people don't like it that they are not allowed to do everything or say everything... if a black person can say "nigger", why can't i?

I think a deal can be made. White people can say "Nigger", and black people can have white privilege.

I just followed her to see if I can bang her out one day.

This means beat up, not fuck, by the way... just a british slang PSA.

These guys are sick racist idiots.
I'm just tired of the constant outrage about everything. I find it boring wish neogaf was less like a room of chattering middle aged women.
No ones forcing you to post in here. There's plenty of topics that have nothing to do with controversy.

It has no merit to it. In the context of history, black girls and women are told, constantly, that they are undesired, witless, belligerent, bottom-of-the-barrel trash. A statement like "black girls rock" is necessary to remind black girls that they are better than society's filthy and low expectations of them.

Her statement has no merit to it, and this post is where this discussion should end.

My opinon she's an idiot as is everyone else who doesn't take three seconds to google exactly what is Black Girls Rock!™

BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc. is 501(c)3 non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialog and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.

Since 2006, BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has been dedicated to the healthy development of young women and girls. BLACK GIRLS ROCK! seeks to build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by changing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons and helping them to empower themselves. For the past five years, we have enjoyed the opportunity to enrich the lives of girls aged 12 to 17 years old through mentorship, arts education, cultural exploration and public service. At BLACK GIRLS ROCK!, young women are offered access to enrichment programs and opportunities that place special emphasis on personal development through the arts and cooperative learning.

By speaking to the next generation in their formative years about issues of self-worth, goals and aspirations, the organization reinforces the message that young women need not objectify themselves or relinquish their autonomy. BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has boldly taken on the crisis of our female youth of color here in America head on and understands the need for positive self-images and a strong sense of awareness. WE SEE SOLUTIONS.

BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc. continues to partner with BET Networks in the worldwide broadcast of BLACK GIRLS ROCK! The event continues to be a historic and monumental show highlighting the accomplishments of exceptional women of color who have made outstanding contributions in their careers, and who stand as inspirational and positive role models in their communities.

Why is it okay for there to be a slogan that says that? Because as the image you just quoted shows you. Black females in the US get shitted on so damn much by America in almost every facet of their lives. The fact the chick who's image you quoted says "your mom lied to you" is the reason shirts like that are needed; far too many people are telling black women that they aren't shit and they're starting to believe it.

Like I said in another thread regarding race treatment in general; you treat people a certain way after a while they're going to act the way you treat them which in an idiot's mind justifies treating that way.

Yes, because this is the thread to bring up bullshit ideas like reverse racism.

Brilliant.

Black Girls Rock is an organization meant to empower the ideals of strong black females. It seeks to fight negative stereotypes portrayed in the media among many other things.

EDIT: Beaten

Who gave you the authority to make such a proclamation?

There are many lessons to be learned from the historical struggles of African Americans but I find it baffling that anyone would look at that history and think more race-based pride, not less, is the ideal path moving forward.

I'm an idiot for mistaking for misinterpreting organization whose name is a statement for the statement itself? Okay.

Yes, because this is the thread to bring up bullshit ideas like reverse racism.

Brilliant.

Are you insinuating that racism is a one-sided coin, because if so then you seriously need to hang out with more people. Racism calls from all across the world from all ethnicities.

You don't think dressing up as a dead kid, and subtly mocking his death is offensive?

EDIT: Looked at picture again, the mocking wasn't all that subtle.

Excuse me? Of course everyone has a right to be offended, you can't tell me not or anyone else they have no right to be offended. What the hell does the first amendment have to do with anything at all?

I can't speak for Marrec but the words "reverse racism" all make me go "hmmm", racism is racism.

I'm offended that you feel you have the right to be offended.

stop..................

Black Girls Rock! Is about raising the self esteem of young black females. Arguably no other woman is looked down upon as the black female in the US. This has had a tangible effect.

The orginization is about affirming that they are valued and that they do have a sense if self worth.

Holy fuck people. A few hundred years of slavery and a hundred years of Jim Crow did some damage. This is an org trying to help.

Excuse me? Of course everyone has a right to be offended, you can't tell me not or anyone else they have no right to be offended. What the hell does the first amendment have to do with anything at all?

I read that statement (" you have absolutely no right to not be offended") as "you do not have the right to never be offended by anyone, the first amendment grants people the right to say and do shit that offends you." Not that you're not allowed to be offended, just that there's nothing protecting you from offense.

Not that I think it's a particularly useful statement in this context, just that I don't think the poster was telling people to not be offended by stuff.

I'm an idiot for mistaking for misinterpreting organization whose name is a statement for the statement itself? Okay.

Maybe not an idiot; but not researching it before grabbing the ball and running with it certainly ensures that this isn't one of your best days, thats for damn sure.

hmmm, i'd swear he added "not" between reading and quoting but probably not. I'll take your clarification as a good one. My apologizes.
