Love the art and design, the realization, not so much. UE3 look is everywhere despite the slight stylization, character aren't very interesting, animations seem off.
Really like the universe, but I can't say this is looking great at all.

And the gameplay? Well we haven't seen much of it yet. I don't really know what to expect, but I'm not very hyped.

After this trailer, Dishonored is one of the few games that I'm looking forward to this year. Looks fantastic, loving the art and the setting.

not sure.. i thought it looked rough, even for consoles.
Like the game is still an early build.

it didn't look rough. It looked low-res, that is all. Probably 1024 for consoles. Which is understandable and should be acceptable for everybody unless they want a corridor shooter #2320349234092034.

I liked the setting, design and the premise but I can't help thinking I've played this game before and it was called Bioshock.
Is that a bad thing? Bioshock was fucking awesome, I'll take more if I can get it. The setting looks great, and I love the art style. That's a good start in my book.

Except they play nothing alike and the only similarities are the character design and a dystopian art style. Bioshock was a standard FPS. Dishonored is a mix of Deus Ex, Dark Messiah and Hitman.

Not sure I get the praise for the art style. Like, I'm close to liking it and I think it's good, but just can't get a bead on what its trying to be or evoke. How would someone describe it exactly? All I see so far is lots of gray and Bioshock-ish looking people.

The death animations are a little silly, but the game looks fun.

But hell I'm buying it no matter what for the setting and the art style which are fucking amazing.

Well they do play something alike in that you use plasmid type abilities which are not found in standard FPS.

It's supposed to be a mix of Dickensian England and City 17. The screenshots released a few weeks ago showcased levels with a broader colour palette:

I like how the fact that this game is focused on stealth escapes everybody's attention.

It speaks volumes about how hard to market this kind of games.

Wow, the song accompanying gameplay got me goosebumps.

One little nag though, the setting of death and gore does contrast a bit with the animation and facial models.

yes, but also rough. The general artstyle is okay, but it looks like it need another layer of polish.

Looks good, love the artstlye. I just hope that there are higher res textures available than seen in the trailer.

Whoa, this is gonna be the next Bioshock. Looks badass. Art style reminds me of Fable a little bit honestly, I don't think it really fits, but everything else is really cool.

There was a real mishmash of elements there. The big walker things reminded me of Half-Life. All I know is that I wanna play it.

Have the devs said anything about a non-lethal playthrough? There's so much killing in this trailer. Yeah, I know he's an assassin, but I like to avoid killing people when it's possible.

It was fun being a pacifist in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

yes, you can but there are story-related kills afaik.

not in the trailer imo.. some part do, some parts don't.
Screens look fine.

what parts?

The game play trailer looks nice, but at this rate, I cannot see this being a whole lot different from Bioshock.

Surely it will be a good game.

[IMG]http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/12/apr/d2.jpg[/IMG
okay this looks much better. i do still wish it was something a little more unique or had more of an identity than just "Bio-life 2" though.

Well, I don't know for sure if they've talked about being able to go through the game completely non-lethal, but they have talked about a couple alternate ways, that don't involve killing, to get rid of your targets. I think they actually described Dishonored as a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone.

Oh, and I actually really love the visual style they have going on, sure it looks a little dated in areas, but the majority of stuff I've seen looks really nice.

watched it again. It's mostly inconsistancy in texture detail. Some are so flat and without detail that it looks unfinished. The gameplay faces aren't that great either, but maybe that's UE3 related. I agree that the artstyle looks good.

Bioshock is shooting guns mostly. Dishonored is melee combat mostly.

or stealth mostly

Well both are viable. Which is awesome.

From the trailer the only thing I thought looked unpolished was how the blood looked. It just sprayed out in a flat shape. I think it suits the art style but it does look quite harsh up close. But I really don't care about graphics. As long as it's fun to play and the visuals aren't causing brain damage, I'll be very happy.

well, textures might look shitty because of low-res, I doubt they fix it by release because of RAM. all textures this gen look shitty, I got used to this.

Graphically, I think it looks quite bad. The animations, textures, models, faces are all a bit budget-looking.
But the premise is cool. I'm keeping an eye on this game.

Could be, or it's part of the art direction. In that case it will look the same on PC. With far better anti aliassing ofcourse. That alone will make this game (any game for that matter) so much better to look at. Goddamn i hate the destructive nature of jaggies. WOuld be my top priority for next gen.

I didn't realize it was going to be so gruesome and violent. I was curiously interested before, but not anymore. I just can't stomach too much gratuitous, graphic violence in games. It can be actually pretty disturbing to me at a point.

So you were ok with the game when it was just violent, but to make that violence have impact and meaning suddenly makes it disgusting? Violence should be slightly disgusting and have impact to the gamer. The trailer, to me, shows a game that has taken steps towards that concept.

Trailer was pretty meh. I have some high hopes for the game myself but the trailer made it look very repetitive with a lot of the stabbing scenes looking exactly the same with just different faces. It was also waaaay longer than it needed to be for the gameplay it showed. It looks like it borrows gameplay from AC and Bioshock and the aesthetic from HL2 in some parts.

I think it's their marketing strategy to make it look like that while from previews, interviews and design goals it looks like fast Thief. But you can't advertise fast Thief to mainstream because most people haven't played the game (compared to AssCreed and Bioshock).
