I can't call it on why this game garners so very little attention from the site. It looks ridiculously good.. Mechanically, systematically and visually. I mean, it has that look in that it seems like it would never ever come out to console but Brave New Worlds thread was incredibly popular for a while. I understand that Civ is a much older franchise but it still seems that something this impressive would not go pretty much ignored by a site like GAF.

Something about the Divinity name just turns people off, I guess. This will be game that I will list as one of the years best and far better than X console exclusive/heavy type game and get called out as someone who is an idiot. I remember I was debating in a PC sales thread or something and Coldfoot came in there talking about "This is the guy who would rather play low reviewed games like Divine Divinity and Mount and Blade". As much as it has improved, GAF is still very much focused on GAF and very much influenced by the game media. And the regular media has hardly said 1 word about this game.

Using coldfoot as an example of how GAF thinks isn't a good idea. Gaf will never be like Something Awful where there is a large pc gaming crowd. I wish we could all just be gamers and play everything here but there are too many crazy fanboys for everything on gaf.

I for one bought the game but have only put like a half hour into the game. I'm waiting for the full game and adding more stuff to class creation. So far it seems pretty great though.

Oh I know coldfoot is not the base example. I actually think he is a joke account lol

I haven't booted it up yet. I am waiting for the full thing to be out so I can just go straight into it without worrying about wipes or hitting a wall where I can't progress.

I've already asked once, and didnt get an answer. So I hope Im not annoying to many people with this question, but is this game feature complete? I want to play it so so badly, however, I dont want to go through a long game knowing that Im missing out on stuff

They're still tweaking stuff and adding voice acting so no, it's not feature complete. I'm not sure if the game is playable from beginning to end and I'm not sure if beta saves will be compatible with the final version in June.

There's probably a decent chunk of people that are waiting for the full release or impressions but most of the apathy is due to the console thing. I do find it sad that this thread probably won't have 25% of the posts the dragon age OT will get when it releases even if dragon age turns out mediocre.

Luckily the more cRPG portions of the internet seem more enthusiastic about it.

If I remember correctly, a mod suggested against a new thread for the beta release because Divinity threads weren't that popular to begin with. Maybe it would just be better to leave discussion here until it's time for the official thread?

To be frank, though, GAF's apathy toward this game is pretty shameful. I'll chalk it up to the PC exclusive thing but we haven't seen an RPG this promising in a long time. It deserves more attention.

Yeah, I messaged a Mod and was advised that it was better to submit a title change.

Nah, no problem. The Beta only includes a portion of the total world and story content. If you're worried about missing out on stuff you should wait, like a few members of GAF are, for the launch on June 20.

I think that can have its upsides though. Having a smaller thread but with more dedicated players can be a better situation for actually discussing the game. As you mentioned, I think things will pick up too once the game is out and the positive word of mouth spreads. Early access has developed quite the stigma over the last year or so.

Personally, I cannot wait for the game to come out. The improvements they make each major update are pretty incredible. I haven't played more than the first hour a couple times to see how the game is coming along but I am thoroughly impressed with the progress over the past few months.

Divinity is... ok... as a name. Divine Divinity however is just hilariously bad.

Great Greatness
Stinky Stink
Magical Magic
Fighting Fight
Stupid Stupidity

It's been awesome seeing the progress this game has made since the alpha release. I'm glad that they opened that up to everyone, as they seem to have taken in mind a lot of player feedback. I'm really looking forward to diving into this game when it releases, or at least when saves are guaranteed to work between versions. I feel like if I do too much right now, I'll "spoil" it.

Yeah it absolutely deserves more attention. I cant explain why it isnt. It should have been a new IP, the "Divinity" brand isnt helping it in any way. I'm trying to spread the word though, I think a LOT of PC gamers will be really interested in this game.

I must say I really like the pure warrior "class" in this game. It isn't just normal attack every turn like most RPGs, on the contrary, I'm always using skills and mostly using normal attack when everything else is in cooldown. They have strong AoE attacks, good mobility, opportunity attacks so enemies stay close to them, buffs, debuffs, stances and more. And their skills are cheap to use because the AP cost and cooldown duration lowers with strenght, and it also makes their skills stronger.

They are maybe too good.

It's not, they'll be adding an item sorting, improve trade between players and a few other things in the upcoming updates. Also saves aren't compatible with updates.

Yeah, it seems like limiting early access to high kickstarter tiers might be bad in terms of feedback (even if it appears to be lucrative). I'm glad they did away with that.

Do they have a self-heal? I'm probably going to play a melee class that can.

I'm pretty sure Way of the Warrior doesn't have a self-heal, but one point in water magic lets you buy minor heal. You can always eat food, potions are pretty expensive in the game and really not worth it. Just steal get as many fishes as you can and use a knife on them, you don't even need a level in crafting for that.

Practically every game limiting early access to expensive tiers is doing it wrong. Provide different incentives, whatever, just give everyone a key. You may miss out on the people who would have upgraded to the beta tier but you'll make up for it with extra sales of lower tiers as well as happier customers.

I think the bigger problem is when they offer the beta in Steam Early Access when the beta tier is too expensive, because they have to sell it at that price and it creates a lot of bad word of mouth for some reason. Larian made the right decision with giving the alpha tier to everyone who backed the KS so they can sell it at a reasonable price.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Limiting early access to high tiers forces you to charge a high price for early access, which in turn forces you to rush through "alpha" and "beta" in order to get to viable early access pricing.

How do the Classes work regarding skills and talents? If I pick a Cleric, can I respec him as a Ranger? It seems like I can tweak everything. So is there a point in picking a class other than it sets some default stats for it?

I wish Larian would say something about the Collector's Edition sub that's been in the Steam registry since the game hit Early Access. The fact that it's there but there's no upgrade variant is largely what's preventing me from jumping in... I mean, it stands to reason that Larian wouldn't give the middle finger to early adopters by not offering an upgrade option, but until I see as much in writing I'd rather play it safe, especially after how DF handled Broken Age's Steam release.

It's a classless system, so the classes at the start are just presets, you can even personalize yours stats, talents and traits when you're creating your characters. I don't think that you can respec your skills.

Finally got to play some CO-op last night and it worked well. Its cool someone can hot join and play on your local save file. Or you guys can both start a new game. Cant say enough about what this game is shaping up to be really.

This is my main issue as well. Does anyone have any info or a clue about the CE? I really want to purchase it, but I'm not quite willing to double dip and get the early access and the CE. If it'll let me upgrade cool, if not, then I'll just wait. I've been waiting on information since it was originally announced there would be a CE, and I'm still waiting now.

Latest update is coming soon:

A thread on another forum got me to look at this more closely. It had flown under my radar as another Diablo clone - not that I dislike those, Torchlight II was awesome, but I've had my fill of loot heavy action games for now.

But it turns out this is more akin to Baldur's Gate than Diablo so I'm all in!

Getting the collector's edition wherever I can find it, but too many games right now ot get in on the Beta.

So I haven't been keeping a close eye on the beta, but is it feature complete? I figure they'd be holding back end-game content for release.

This game is going to be amazing, isn't it? Glad I backed it, eventhough I haven't played early access builds at all. Now I just have to decide whether play MP, and be dependent on another person, or just play it myself, whenever I want..

i'm forcing my so to play this with me. i feel any damage sustained by our relationship due to this non-negotiable position will be worth it.
they're going to love it

The updates all seem pretty thorough and great, and it's particularly impressive that they get them out so quickly.

I've only put a couple of hours into the game because I want to wait until it's in a more final state (which won't be too long now) before really delving into it, but what I've played and generally seen so far looks extremely promising.

Super thanks to the generous DrBo42 for gifting me a copy of the game!

It is. Probably my GOTY for 2014. I can't believe I got the full game and special items plus alpha/beta for just $28.

Cross-platform MP announced just like that. I love Larian. I'm glad I sprung for that ridiculous CE!

edit: I suppose saves are still subject to deletion when the final game is released? Having the beta just sitting on my HDD is killing me.

edit edit: Swen is awesome. One of my favorite videogame personalities for sure.

Downloaded the beta to my 13" MBP this morning. Looking forward to seeing how well it runs on the HD 3000. But I'm still waiting for the compete release to really dive into the game despite backing the KS.

Just purchased the CE from the Larian site. I didn't get in on the Kickstarter as I always miss those for some reason, but at least I can support them now. Dragon Commander was great, hoping this is even better. With enough support we can make Larian the next CDPR and the more great devs we have the better. Not sure if they are going to send me the keys now, but I can wait till June no problem.

Great update. I love the progress they have made over the past month or 2. Pretty much my most anticipated game this year. Should EASILY be RPG of the year. Yeah over PoE
