Yes! I love how he kept bringing that up to David, was so funny haha. I'd definitely like to give that a shot too, even on a serious level, it seemed like he was having more success with it as well to a more traditional build. It's things like that that make me excited to mess with the classless system.

I'll definitely keep that in mind about DC. I got it on the GOG sale, so even if I end up not being super into it, it's no big loss. It's actually going to be one of my first rts experiences in a loooong time too, since the old C&C/warcraft 2 days haha, so I shouldn't be too critical either haha. My god though there is truely a character dressed like this haha?:

I may have to try and play story sequences when my partner is elsewhere, I'm not sure what she'll say if she looks over at the pc and sees I'm playing with that on the screen haha!

It's all part of the political decision making you have to make in the game as you try to maintain political support from each of the factions. She's one of the princesses, but depending on which faction you want to curry favor with, you can choose another.

What exactly at this point are the major things we're still expecting?

Since they've gone to beta, I think it's mostly polishing now. They are working on the tutorial level still, and the music isn't complete yet. But I think all the 'major things' are supposed to be in the game at this point.

I played a little bit just to check out the beta and the game has improved a ton from alpha. I had to stop myself from playing after 30 minutes to save the experience for release but I am incredibly hyped seeing how much the game has improved.

Yeah, I also checked it out a bit and it's an enormous improvement over the alpha.
I played around a hour or so and really had to force myself stop playing because I want to wait for the full release.

This game has some serious potential and I can't wait to finally play through it.
Kirill also did an fantastic job on the soundtrack, I'm enjoying it very much.

I'm glad that they postponed the initial February release, there is no way they would have been anywhere near ready at that point.

Is there a release date yet? This also dragged me away from AOW3, but I don't want to spoil the full game.

Just saw the trailer for this and it looks very interesting.

How are the story/interaction/non-battle bits in this game? I tend to enjoy those more than the actual fighting in games...

If you compared it to most modern rpgs then its intense, interaction is everywhere when it comes to characters, story and world. Battles are less interactive then the rest of the game from my experience as its not the biggest chunk of the game. Watch some lets play as a good three hours of footage gives you a good idea of the game but there are so many things you can do that you just dont realize because for years rpgs havent given us this level of interactivity.

it really is quite impressive honestly.

I'm really liking the combat mechanics. I love how it dynamically counts out your AP when you move the mouse around to choose a spot to move to. Combat is just as interactive as the rest of the game, as well, which is nice.

Wow at that beta trailer, graphically and mechanically it certainly looks really impressive. I've played Divinity II: Ego Draconis and Flames of Vengeance. They were shlocky and clunky but overall they were pretty solid and fun to play action rpgs, it's almost hard to believe that this game is from the same studio. I haven't played Dragon Commander yet but that too looks like it's a pretty big step up as well.

Definitely interested in this game.

IGN said it plays like a modern Baldur's Gate. Is that true?

It's more Ultima 7 than Baldur's Gate. Unlike the relatively static game world in the Infinity Engine games, Divinity blankets the levels with interactive items and mechanics. It's really easy to pick up and play so I guess it's like Baldur's Gate there.

If the quality holds out the final game is balanced reasonably well, I feel like this could be Larian's masterpiece.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Ultima 7 could be crazy easy to pick up and play if they added some modern features without changing gameplay too significantly. Options to auto mix spells, comparing status at shops, a world map to consult within the game, quest journal, etc. Not even quest markers and stuff, just more about stuff for tracking things and to only cull out the really REALLY nitty gritty stuff.

I've not played an Ultima game but I think I know what one you're talking about having seen a video of it recently.

How much of the game's singleplayer is playable in this beta build?

Fuck it, I shouldn't, but it just looks so good...

The most important thing to update in U6 and U7 is the inventory. The bags are awesome, but it's very easy to lose something.

My only issue right now is the click to move using the mouse. It doesn't feel very responsive and I feel like I'm constantly micro-clicking just to move around the world. Maybe it's been awhile since i played BG or U7, but I find the movement in the game a bit annoying right now.

I'm pretty sure you can click and hold to walk around, just like Diablo.

Finally got to put in some good time with the beta and, man, what a change! It's night and day how much more polished and fun the game is. Harder, too. At this rate I can't wait to see the final product.

Salt on the wound and he didn't even realize it... or so I'd think.

Do need to give the beta a spin though, I never did long sessions in the alpha so I didn't really care to invest too much knowing an update could blow it all away, and I can't fault them for that at all as an alpha and even a beta are more about completing the game and getting it working than preserving saves. Just proves they're right about waiting if you want a polished experience, but it's nice to peek in and see how things changed and get an appreciation for maturing development.

I think the saves aren't safe until the game is released.
Yeah, the only ones playing now are those who are too eager for release and want something NOW, people who want to help with development, and people fascinated with the development process which I guess is like a mix of the first two. Even if your save is safe for the duration of the beta it'll undoubtedly get killed with retail anyway, so it's never truly safe during these stages, and even with retail, well, things can get really screwy for all we know but short of crap like choosing to use GFWL that doesn't frequently happen.

Finally gotten around install the beta, surprising how great the game looks in max setting especially compare to the early alpha.

Yeah, I just hopped in for the first time since when it first went up and I'm blown away by how much better it looks. Wasn't expecting much difference but it's really looking great. Performance is much better too, although I still have no clue what is going on with the vsync that seems to switch between 30 and 60 FPS at random.

Edit: Oh my gosh at the dungeon tutorial lighting, can't even believe this is the same game.

I already own this game, can I play through the whole campaign already and they are only polishing up the rest or should I wait for release for the full content?

Only the first 25% of the content is available. They are polishing the mechanics based on feedback. Gameplay still isn't balance and there working on that. There's an update sometime today for the game.

Ah okay, thanks for the update :)
