Divinity: Original Sin |OT| Sandbox RPG. Co-Op friendly. Bread.

Just hit
the demon in Act 3. Sucks that there is no waypoint around here, since I can tell this is going to have branching acheevs, and Jahan is no longer in my party.

Go to the Sacred Stone waypoint and hug right until you reach a bridge. Cross it and you're there.

So can you actually do anything in
Sacred Stone
other than
visiting the Geomancer and get some Tenebrium? Is the prison pointless
?

Summon undead warrior is pretty awesome.
Really? I found him to be REEEEEALLLY underwhelming and is a joke in tanking compared to
the Spider
. Even the
elementals
at least have utility (
Frozen has CC attached, Wind can randomly stun, Fire has burning)
and aren't hindered by armor. The
Wolf
is truly amazing. Didn't test the
bloodswarms
(or something) tho.

Character with leech + Bloodletting skill from witchcraft which is a level 1 spell = 1 turn cool down complete heal with a heal over time effect in later turns.

Just tried messing with this, it's ridiculous. Attack your own character to regain full health ...damn.

I'm diving into this monster tonight. If you had one piece of non-spoiler advice to give to someone starting, what would it be?
You get a mage and a knight as companions pretty early on. Plan accordingly (there are many types of mages tho. The one you get is specialized in
water + air
).
Double mage + double warrior works really well tho.

Make sure to either build a character wi a summons spell (spider ftw) or buy one immediately. They are clutch in battle early on.

Loving this game. About 25 hours played I think.

I've just beaten
Braccus Rex
. Not sure if I did it out of order - I think I was mostly level 7, and I hadn't gone into the
Silverglen
area at all. I'm assuming that's where I'm headed next? I also did the quest with the
four talking statues that opens a cave with a wizard. I was going to ask what the consequences of killing him were, but that would be largely irrelevant when he kills my party 1v4 with ease and I can't touch him.

Are there any other companions outside of the first two? Because my party right now is my 2h warrior and my pyro/geo/witch wizard, along with the two you get in Cyseal. I'm not sure if I want to remove Madora and get lone wolf on my 2h warrior, or if there are any rogue/archer/assassin type companions I could pickup soon instead as it seems largely redundant to have two identical characters. It basically means my main guy is ridiculously strong and Madora is really weak because I give my guy all the good gear and she gets scraps.

With regards to building my 2h warrior, so far I have picked up Leech/Opportunist/Bully, and I'm basically putting points into man-at-arms, armor specialist and 2h. Is it worth leveling any of these in particular more than the others? More importantly, should I dump everything in strength, or spread it evenly strength/const, or should I be leveling my speed too?

Larian has been killing it with post-launch activity. From updates and fixes to news stories and keeping active. Good news all around.

Blacksmith>2h>Man at Arms>Armor~Bodybuilding~Willpower (if at all)

Crafting on one char is also really awesome to enchant your weaponz and gear.

I gave my melee Bully, Lone Wolf, Leech (important²), Glass Cannon (once he had over 1k hp), Opportunist, Wheather the storm (requires rank 5 Man at arms), Stand your Ground (requires rank 5 bodybuilding)

Just put everything into strength/int/dex respectively and get constitution from your gear. I also have speed on 9 on all my chars.

For gear I looked for Strength on shoulders and amulet. Constitution on Helmet and Rings. Strength+Constitution on armor and belt. Weapon just pure damage (can be crafted). Boots +movementspeed (can be crafted). Shoulders and Belts can come with +2h skill, which is a net 10% damage increase each.

Yeah Zukuu, the way you described you're meele character earlier sounds way OP. Wonder if they plan to roll out some balance patches.

You can pick up the Knight and Mage companion at the Inn and library (across from the Inn, second story of Mayor's residence) respectively. The Mage companion you can recruit has a water and air specialization.

Leech is the first talent you should upgrade your Melee companion with. Bully and Opportunist are also good skills, but not as important as Leech.

If building a Mage, make sure to use complementary schools of magic (Air and Water, or Fire and Earth). Witchcraft is a buff/debuff heavy school, so feel free to invest in the school later in the story. In the beginning Act, all you need is one point to use the buff Oath of Desecration on your Melee characters.

Never invest points into Loremaster. Ever. You will find multiple rings, necklaces, hats, and boots that will give you points in the skill

Dont play on normal.

Would hard really solve this problem? Or would it just make it so it's it simply takes a bit longer to become incredily OP?

EDIT: I can't really blame them I guess. Every CRPG suffers form some ridiculous balance issues. Fallout, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, Bloodlines, every single one of them.

Yea, I don't know. Probably nothing will stop buffed out 2 handed warriors one shotting everything and mages who can cc everything with one spell. My 2 warriors don't have leech either and they take 0 damage because of high resists, everything just heals them and the barriers on top of this from the mages just makes everything a joke.

I'm annoyed that I picked a Knight and Mage as my two classes as the two companions you pick up are very similar. Is it too late to start changing my class? I'm level 3

No. The early levels are easy to obtain, especially now that you know what to do.

well, I'm playing with two Knights as well (one of my main characters and Madora) and I really can't say I'm regretting to any degree.
The fact is (and someone who tried it can correct me if I'm wrong) for how melee works in this game I don't seem to notice any potential advantage in going with one hand and shield over 2H weapons for fighters.
Of course using a shield will probably make you a bit more tank-y (yeah, I don't think that's an actual word...) but the trade off in damage doesn't really seem to be worth it and even using 2H warriors are already more than robust enough.

Hard doesn't add much of a challenge beyond the initial already somewhat hard early game. Once you have a certain combination of talents and attributes, you're just unstoppable from mid-game on. Even on easy the enemies will almost never miss you by then. So +20% hit chance is pretty trivial at that point anyway. +25% damage? What differences makes it when each hit just heals you due to Leech and 200% element absorption?

Don't get me wrong tho, I don't think anything needs to be changed at all. It's a single player game, so let the people become OP if they want to. That's half the fun for me when I play such a game: To break it. I'm all in for balance patches tho, since I like hard games that are challenging to beat. I'd look at weather-the-storm (+50% flat is ridiculous), leech (make it once per turn but buff the amount healed to 20% max hp or something), elemental resistance through enchantments (cap it at 15% not 30%(?)). Oath (+1AP or higher level), Flurry (slightly less scaling). Enrage is bugged as well and only subtracts 50% armor (fix that). Also change Slip to only last a single turn and reduce the chance that it happens GREATLY. >_<

Well, that's mostly because (THANKFULLY) no one really cares about perfectly tuned balance in single player games as far as classes are fun to use and diversified enough, so it's not perceived as a big issue. In some cases even like a plus.

I need some help, did I break the game ?
After combine Leandra spell with her blood, I return to The end of time and I'm attacked by Icara and ZixZax. Did I do something wrong ? or I'm not supposed to go there ?

I found this not true, i still needed a few base points for higher gear.

Regarding
Evelyn's Lair

I made it inside and killed the lone cultist. I'm not sure if the cultist didn't drop a key, or if I forgot to pick it up. I don't seem to have the key that's needed to unlock the door that's just past the group of orcs. Any ideas?

edit: nvm one of the npcs picked it up by accident.

I still hold that almost any build is viable. There is no need whatsoever to min-max or worry about wasting points.

Let it go.

Yeah I finished the game without bothering to min-max or save scum or anything like that, I even avoided something I stumbled upon and considered to be a bit exploity. Now I'm doing a second playthrough and purposefully gimping myself for the fun and challenge of it. I enjoy being creative about the way I need to approach things.

I can definitely understand the desire to min-max. I'll probably try that for one of my playthroughs but it's not necessary at all.

Not singling you out in particular, but it amazes me how different the conversation is regarding difficulty between Original Sin and a game like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Granted, Reckoning had problems besides low difficulty, but the easiness of it was always the first complaint you'd hear leveled.

Balance is an issue if the combat is the main (or only) aspect of the game. In KoA you had little to no interaction with anything and the biggest part of the game was slaughtering creeps for fetch quests. In games like Original Sin, you're part of a world and combat is but a small slice of it and often not even required to solve quests or progress through the game.
