About to start this game but the amount of options for class and character customization right at the beginning are a bit overwhelming.

Never played the beta, so what is a good combination as far as character classes? Also, does the gender of the characters matter (ie having 2 females or males)?

Also wondering what the AI option (loyal or whatever the other one is) is all about...

The way companions/henchmen work is they are paired to the main characters -- Roderick can hire one, Scarlett can hire one. So a party of four. If, say, Roderick takes Lone Wolf but Scarlett does not, then Roderick loses his extra party member allocation, but Scarlett retains hers. So a party of three.

One last question.

Are there more feats/skills in the game than what's shown at character creation. I assume yes on skills, but feats?

I don't understand why Boulder Bash is doing poison splash damage. There's no mention of that in the spell description.

Boulder becomes poison if it passes through ooze and fire if it passes through burning.

I also think you guys aren't liberal enough with your spoilers. Most of the spells aren't out in the wild so basically everything is a spoiler. I see tons of crafting spoilers completely unhidden constantly. Maybe people arent used to games like this anymore where the mechanics are part of the immersion. Just say - I had a question about how an earth spell was working then spoiler it.

to those complaining about "slow movement" speed... IMHO do NOT drag to move. What I will usually do is solely click-to-move. And especially in town I will scroll the map to where I want to go and click on that spot. It actually reminds me of the old Bioware games in that respect where you wanted to constantly be controlling movement but it was more realistic (and less frustrating) to just click a distance away and let them move on their own.

So I just let
Madora
join my party. Is there another companion in the city that I can take right now - or do I have to go outside and adventure with 3 ppl? Don't want to hire henchmen yet, money is scarce lol

There's a wizard in the library that you can recruit.

Take this with a pinch of salt, but the guide I've read claims that there are more Talents hidden in the later levels, yes. If so, that should be viewable in the Level Editor if anyone's savvy enough around it yet to take a look.

There is another companion in a place with a lot of books.

Has anyone gotten past the content that was in the beta? If so, does the game get better or worse in terms of the areas? Is it more expansive? Or does the game just get harder?

17 hours in and I'm still in the first town. I really want to make some geographic progress soon or I'll burn myself out.
Where should I go/what quest should I do?

Sry to ask but what would it do/change?

It would add an element of unpredictability to dual dialogues by allowing them to respond with a choice consistent with their personality, greatly enhancing the experience for those of us who aren't playing co-op.

Though I don't think the setting can be changed mid-game even if they were patched in today...

Thank holy hell for the npc voice loop fix. One of the only things about this game that was causing me pain.

In love. 35 hours in and I've only just started to leave Cyseal (although 5 were probably MP).

GOTY?

STILL waiting for my CE from Gameseek. Rang them yesterday and they said they would email me with an update but nothing yet......the wait continues :-(

Is witchcraft primarily for buffing and debuffing? It feels a little lacklustre so far.

that 50% damage buff is pretty godlike if you ask me. Put it on a 2-handed fighter, they destroy stuff. The debuff one is pretty crappy because you have to be close to use it. I just got blinded but haven't tried it yet.

+50% Damage on my Ranger with Ricochet and his own damage buff is a pretty hard hitting opening salvo.

God forbid anything get close to me though. That's what the spider is for.

The voices are much better now after the patch. Makes a huge difference.

For me, I don't really see any competition for GOTY. Maybe Wasteland 2, but I don't know if I dare hope that will be THAT good. I expect a good game, but I doubt it will manage to reach Fallout level of greatness.

I'm running a Water-Witch as my main face character. I've only taken the damage buff spell from the Witchcraft school at creation and the other two spells are the helpful heal and slow from water school. This is also the character which I've dumped all my social and looting skills into, since 'Buff, Heal and Staff attacks' duty in combat gives a lot of wiggle room for stat allocation. He'll specialise into the more impressive Witchcraft stuff once it comes around. For the timebeing, I'm enjoying the convenience of having all my interaction boosting abilities on one character.

I thought my spider summoning Ranger was a special snowflake!

I'm only a few hours in so far so I'm still leaning toward Transistor as my GOTY (it has better combat than D: OS) but man... I'm not sure that'll hold up.

This game is so good. Criminally good.

Witchcraft is support/debuff (as mentioned that 50% damage buff Oath is extremely potent) , bleed type damage spells,
undeas themed summons, temp invincibility, and an extremely powerful single target death touch

I'm going to keep repeating this: All spell schools are extremely viable. Even on their own. The only real standout aspect is earth is slightly stronger in the -very- early game but that's really nbd. It's more about getting an understanding of the way a spell school operates and finding the ones that work for your preferred tactical style; or simply adapting to each school's strengths.

Resurrection doesn't belong to any spell school I believe. Pretty sure cleric/man-at-arms skills are yellowish not the weird purple it uses. If there is a resurrect book it's likely hidden in the world/quested for. Res scrolls are valuable. Like all consumables!!!

Does anyone know how the ai chooses who to attack? Is it most damage they can do or what? It just seems very random.

man-at-arms skills are red

Has anyone figured out what stats, if any, impact summons?

Also what does higher skill in the magic schools do? I can't see any benefit in increasing them at low levels, so it is just a matter of reducing hp when you get high level spells?

Finally ready to dive into this. Only played around with character creator in beta, then stepped around first screen for a moment.

I have a couple questions about thief/evil gameplay. Please note that I've played Baldur's Gate and Fallout, but I was never very sneaky.

1) Let's say I've got one sneaky character and one melee warrior. What does my warrior do while the other is off assassinating or picking pockets? Hide around a corner out of sight? Chill in the tavern?

2) Related to 1, let's say I wanted to semi-roleplay the game but not take it too seriously. Is one character essentially responsible for the actions of the other? Can my warrior play ignorant of his partner's misdeeds? Or if my thief takes heat, do the authorities come after the warrior as well?

as for 1. you can have the melee warrior talk to the person then sneak around the person with the other character.

I can't seem to figure out where I hire henchmen :( Do I need to talk to someone, interact with something, what? It's driving me crazy. Really want to grab a ranger henchman...

I have Hall of Heroes activated, which is supposedly where henchmen can be hired, but I can't find out how/where to do it.

Edit: Doh, nevermind, found it. Was totally looking over the NPC in the room (thanks for nothing camera).
