DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

Demo crashed on me, going thru it again now.

It doesn't seem you can demon pull while in mid air which seems like a big oversight.
Stop your momentum to pull out a ledge instead of being able to do it while in air and then angel lift in mid air.

I do hope their is some kind of overrev mechanic like dmc4 had with Nero's red queen sword.

Yes you can.

I'm guessing that OG Dante and OG Vergill will end up as DLC skins. I don't mind the new Dante too much, new Vergil is kind of a train-wreck though. Dat hat.

I dunno. It seems like Capcom wants those characters dead in the West. They aren't allowing Superbot to include a Classic Dante skin in PSASBR.

I don't think you guys get it. They aren't making Dante some grimdark rage fantasy, it's supposed to be super campy and cheesy like the old games but in a new context. I was cracking up that whole boss fight. And not at NT's expense.

Same here.

The fuck you, FUCk YOUUUU, etc. stuff is all clearly pretty tongue in cheek and IMO not really that far off from the tone of the previous games.

It's sort of a different take on the same material and while it is over the top I don't think it's badly written or voice acted.

Come on, that's got nothing to do with Capcom "wanting them dead" that's just PSASBR being a good opportunity for some cross-promotion for Capcom's new game. Same as Bioshock Infinite stuff being in there even though it's not even out.

Played the demo;

The combat feels a little slow for my liking but that's probably because i just finished another play through of Bayonetta. The environment design is seriously top notch i'm going to get this on the PC just for that reason, gorgeous. I like the dialogue "Fuck you, fuck you, FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" was hilarious. Feels strange that i'm more into the story and general design of a Devil May Cry game than the actual gameplay lol.

I think considering who it's from they've done a good job.

This demo gets me so hyped for the PC version. The game is responsive, responsive as hell on consoles, but you can feel the lack of 60.

And holy shit the game needs a huge dose of AA.

Still, it looks leagues better than DmC4. Seems like it'll play better too, especially so if they up the twitch req on the platforming in later levels.

Have you noticed if the dynamic soundtrack attached to the ranking system is indeed in the game? That's something that I found amazing when they announced, but haven't been able to tell from videos tbh

EDIT:

Here you can see that the SSS spam was really fixed. The guy didn't like the game at all though lol
Whats up with the music? WUBWUBWUBWUBWAAOWEOUWUB!! My head hurts now.

Fuckidy fuck fuck

Random impressions from a big time DMC fan that has more or less been ignoring DmC up until this point.

Sons of Sparda mode is pretty challenging. Not hard, but it's a challenge. Enemies seem to ignore attacks more, and will sometimes attack out of grounded hitstun forcing you to play very defensivly. When there are multiple enemies on screen, you spend a lot of time moving around with hit and run tactics. Very movement based. The basic fodder enemies also block a lot more, which is par for the course on harder difficulties in DMC games. The new shield guys that are only vulnerable to one weapon also makes things a bit interesting. Gotta be careful not to accidentally hit them with the wrong weapons when there are multiple enemies on screen or you're pretty much guaranteed to get hit. It gets tougher when both types are on screen at the same time. Lots of dodging involved. Also has a new flying type enemy and they seem to shrug off all attacks besides Helm Breaker and will attack you mid-combo. After I got used to combos and dodging, they were pretty much the only ones hitting me.

The boss on Sons of Sparda mode is tough, and it feels similar to the usual DMC fair of figuring out the attack cues, dodging/avoiding the attacks, then going in for a few hits and repeating. I think it might have new attacks in SoS mode, but I don't really know for sure. I killed it pretty fast on normal, so I might just not have had the chance to see them.

All in all, I think the game is pretty fun when you get the hang of it, and this is coming from a guy who played like 800 hours of DMC3 and DMC4 combined. I wouldn't put it on par with them from what I've played, but it's a solid action game and has quite a bit of depth. The framerate is disappointing, but it doesn't seem to affect the ability to combo/dodge any so at least there's that. I'll still probably wait for the PC version, though.

It's not a big gripe, but the new stuff is really wacky. They don't even look like twins in DmC. Is it the same character model for both? They seem fairly different.

What is/was the lead platform for this anyway? I wonder if the PS3 and 360 demos will be any different in terms of quality/framerate/etc.

Have they mentioned any sort of Devil Arms knock-offs? They probably moved away from this since they're using Angelic and Demonic weapons now, but it'd be nice to see.

There is the Eryx and the Aquila. Plus 2 more firearms will be in the final game. Beyond that we don't really know... I wouldn't bank on it at all.

Guys please just play the demo and form your own opinions or at least look at the other DMC fans comments. Frantic has some very nice impressions up and he is for sure a long time DMC fan. I don't think mine will be that different.

They look like brothers, but not twins. Which is fine. But facial structure kinda matches from some angles :P Or, to say it simpler, I can see some Vergil in Dante, and some Dante in Vergil.

It was pretty responsive even compared to Bayonetta, which was 60fps but had an ass load of tearing and slowdown(even on 360). It's a solid 30fps, which is a major plus.

agreed. I played the first demo mission again and I'm really impressed by just how fluid it is. I'm really surprised by what ninja theory have pulled off here, I was expecting the worse with combat and performance, but they really stepped up their game and delivered a good demo.

I hope the final game is as stable and consistently good.

they are like two thousand miles off from the previous games

Bayonetta has the higher frame rate though.

By about 15fps.
It ran at around 45fps on 360 and 30 fps on PS3
With the obligatory eye shearing screen tearing.

I enjoyed Bayonetta, but I hate when people put it on a pedestal.
It was not technically sound at all.

That's unfortunate, I really digged those. Agni & Rudra especially, Tempest was boss.

A bit curious.. why is dahbomb opinion so important?

I was just poking fun at the fact that, accoring to some posters, we can't have an opinion unless Dahbomb sponsors it. But he is the DMC authority around here.

It ran at 50-55 for most of the game including most combat scenes. Outside of the occasional drop down to 38-45 during heavy.

Bayonetta tearing and framerate wasn't that bad as people make it sound (on 360). I don't think we should disminish a game that even as it worst moments rans 15fps more than DmC.

My problem is that it wasn't a stable framerate. Which caused the ton of screen tearing.
I don't hate Bayonetta. I just wish it was better optimised.

Isn't it good that NT didn't just reuse Dante's model for Vergil anyway? Shows they put effort behind it IMO and they do look quite a bit alike, you can pretty clearly see they're related looking at their facial structure, they look like twins just not identical twins.

Yes you can.

Tested it a bunch of times and I cannot get the demon version of the grapple to connect mid air. I am not talking about on enemy's, this is concerning ledges that you have to pull out before you can jump on them. The angel will connect.

Maybe I am just not hitting it right, but it doesn't seem that way.

Umm yes. I remember the digital foundry article.
My memory is crap but not that crap

You're pretty adamant about this.

The same article you use as justification for Bayonetta not being technically sound is the same article where the author says it puts 1st party efforts to shame.

Plenty of 360 footage with an average of 50-55 fps.
