I think professionals should be held to a higher standard than forum posters but that's just me.
Pretty much.
I mean, they call themselves journalists.

Where is this from so I can put that website on my block list?
I thought the last nail on the coffin was the Doritosgate scandle.I thought the PS3 Skyrim situation already destroyed the remaining credibility of these "gaming journalists."
I was admittedly thinking more of Persona 3 and 4, and to a lesser degree DQVII: those can take an hour or three to REALLY start. FFXIII though, yeah, that's more like it moves from uber streamlined to "something resembling a normal RPG" after 20-30 hours. Though that's more the fault of having a story that doesn't mesh well with what I imagine most want from an RPG.That's probably why I don't have a lot of patience for RPGs
like mothafuckas tellin me "don't worry, after the first 20 hours, FFXIII opens up and it gets good"
uh, no offense, but if I gotta play TWENTY MOTHAFREAKIN' HOURS before I get to "the good part", this game can kiss the blackest part of my ass
Honestly, I've never really paid much attention to Geoff Keighley or cared for his opinions much when I did, while the crap that came out on the UK side, well, it sounds like UK games journalism is kind of a horrific mess anyway. Just find sites/people you generally agree with and stick with that.I thought the last nail on the coffin was the Doritosgate scandle.
Same.that's kinda why I don't want to play ACIII
after the 15 hour mark the game supposedly starts
When I read reviews, it's to get a deep, well-supported opinion of a game. If I wanted snap judgements I'd watch quick looks or let's plays on youtube and make my own fucking snap judgements. That's not what reviewers are paid for.Journalists have an ability where they can tell the game is crap without actually spending time on it

What the hell? Come on people, because he stated "genuine reviews" you're all jumping down their throat. Like you really don't think the intense animosity towards this game is not going to generate reviews by people (that havent even played it) with the sole intention to just tear it apart? I wouldn't consider that genuine. I gotta lay off these DmC threads, you guys are insatiable nuts. I've never heard a community complain so feverishly w/ out end and still be accepted in a community... how many people were demeaned because they were upset about U3 getting an 8? Now we got an entire community complaining about high scores and it's "A OK!". Neogaf...
I was kinda hoping the whole video was of him doing a normal show, and the Doritos and "Mtn" Dew were just... there. Like someone was a jerk and moved store props there before he started his show. But the bit with the Doritos and Dew did come off more as "I'm paid to tell you about this EXP stuff" and less "I'm paid to say Halo 4 is AWESOME AAAA BEST GAME OF THE CENTURY". So, whatever, I'm less angry over that and more amused at the Doritopope meme spawned from it.It is shame that became doritosgate (where Keighly did nothing wrong, but that doritopope image sure is funny) instead of waingate became so popular.
Friend, I don't even read reviews anymore and stopped a couple years ago. I use a combination of playing demo, watching youtube footage, and reading impressions from users who's opinions I respect to gauge whether to buy a game.I thought the PS3 Skyrim situation already destroyed the remaining credibility of these "gaming journalists."

And you think we were jumping down throats?[/QUOTE]
Yea, that's essentially my mind exploding. You guys are just that ridiculous. This whole community outcry has been an embarrassment for the gaming community and caused me to really consider being done w/ message boards... I've been following this shit since the beginning, so it's not a sudden realization.

Good lord, what a nightmare this thread has become.
The general review embargo is up next Sunday around midnight Pacific time.
I'm not invested in this game either way, but watching a bunch of people sit in a circle and hoot and holler and hope for a game to fail bums me out.
Didn't we already get the OXM review? Aren't they the ones who posted the review and followed up with the interview?OXM UK gave the game a 9/10
It boils down to them hating what this game represents, more so than the game itself. The hatred this game gets is over the top.
It's very disappointing to see.
It is what it is, people in this thread have been more well mannered than the general community.. ironically enough.
Didn't we already get the OXM review? Aren't they the ones who posted the review and followed up with the interview?
I have nothing positive to say about the game, and I'm not buying it because of what it represents to me so I haven't been entering or posting in the threads for the last few months because I've already said all the shit I wanted to say.I don't think the detractors and defenders of this game will ever see eye to eye.
I know I'm not buying this game so with that I leave.

Yep same here. I've moved on past the anger stage into acceptance.I have nothing positive to say about the game, and I'm not buying it because of what it represents to me so I haven't been entering or posting in the threads for the last few months.
I'm still curious to see what everyone else thinks about it, though.
Like anyone from the UK is going to give this game a bad score. I don't follow reviews nor do I care/value them, but has any publication from the UK given this game a bad score? I don't care what anyone says, there's clearly some home turf respect/back scratching at play here. To say otherwise would be quite naive, in my opinion.
DmC will outsell any DMC. Suck it haters stuck in the past.
You need to accept change. This is the way of things. Better visuals, platforming, accessible gameplay and a groundbreaking story oh and it sells! Unlike Dante-aboo. Developers Capcom were afraid of drugs, smoke, dirtiness, and sex - even cursing. That is their culture over in Korea. Fear of what sells but Ninja Theory knows where it's at though. They aren't afraid and they know that people are not stuck in the past.
Bieber's Believe dropped some great numbers as a matter of fact topped charts when it came out and he did a collabo with Carly Jepsn I think a while after so I think I'll pick that up tomorrow after school with my auntie.

they were high on mountain dewso what are you going to say when the US outlets give it good reviews?

Wait you have the game?Well, actually this IS true in some measure regarding DMC, since until you unlock Erix and (above all) Aquila, the playstyle doesn't really pan out, and until the game doesn't start trowing at you special property enemies like Dreamwalkers, Furies, Witches and Butchers, you don't really have to sweat much to go on. Add to that the latter half of the game contains very, few of the best levels, and well, the dreader "give it a few hours" rears its ugly head ^^'
so what are you going to say when the US outlets give it good reviews?

PC.
PS3 version is very inferior apparently.

Ah, naturally.
Honestly, I'm having a hard time take any of these claims of journalist ethics seriously. It ALWAYS depends on the game and the whether or not it's something the general gamer responds too. In this case DmC has skepticism surrounding it and anything positive people is treated with suspicion. But of course, these same folks who decry these reviews for DmC will be salivating over the positive reviews for MGR next month.
This witch hunt is ridiculous.
Can't trust US publications/websites giving US games good reviews. I don't care what anyone says, there's clearly some home turf respect/back scratching at play when US made games come are released. To say otherwise would be quite naive, in my opinion.
Not me. Like I said, reviews don't mean shit to me. I'll just be happy when MGR releases because it's an actually good, CLASSY, Japanese action game.
To be honest the thread isn't just a review thread but a mega thread for all things DmC related.I try to spend as little time in DmC threads as possible, but over 20 pages?
Can someone please give me a brief of what just happened?
Can you at least clear up how long it would take an average person to beat the game or how long it took you to beat it? There are a lot of different reports on it... it would be good to have a solid number from a reliable source. No need. Already received my cheque![]()
Writing my review for the mag in the next couple days
Bayonetta is designed around the 360 controller so I don't see why you'd have a problem with it in that game.I cant play a DMC games with Xbox controllers.
I tried with Bayonetta.
Cant believe this shit still goes on in 2013!
I'm just not sure why Ninja Theory is getting all the flack. Capcom has demonstrated a talent for fucking up their properties on either side of the Pacific in the last few years, so I don't know what people would prefer for the game. Mikami is gone. Kamiya is gone.
