DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

Sounds better than any story capcom did with DMC aside from 3. Seriously am I missing something here? For most it's always been the combat but for those of us with not as much skill the story was never really anything special.

3 by far had a simple but great plot
2 was just nonexistent
4 is debatable personally made no sense to me
1 did its job to progress the character forward

Seems like a condensded story of the orginal story. But just slightly different
Mundus is evil and you fight him.
Vergil Is evil and you fight him.
But really who gives a shit anyways. You kinda already can guess what happens in between.

Time machine powered by baby tears and Vergil Rex sounding better and better :P But no a simply story can still be fun, it's a shame that its a simple story that's retreading what DMC4, DMC1 and DMC3 already did :\ I am very curious to see what GS, Edge, ign and GT give it.

Or replaying mission 1 over and over again to orb farm. =)

Anyway, if the guy who apparently has the game is accurate in saying that it's 15 hours with no backtracking, than the missions must be either really long or this includes some of the secret missions. Either way, Dahbomb is right, action games are extremely variable, though personally - I figure this to be as long as the previous DMC games. Which were all of good length for an action game. Except DMC4, which had excessive padding.

Now the guy is saying 10 hours and that menu time/pause screen DOES count in the total playtime. I agree with Dahbomb with regard to variable play times but this is still going to be a short game for most. A short game with no BP.

It's disappointing, no other way to slice it.

Devil May Cry 4 - early 2008.

Despite the game being rushed out when its not ready, it manages to sell 2.7 million worldwide. Now imagine the following, the management realise the error of its ways, stop meddling and give the same team a 2 and a half year development cycle:

Devil May Cry 5 - Autumn 2010

Now the team is fully up and running, the next title has a 2 year cycle:

Devil May Cry 6 - Autumn 2012

Capcom makes a bundle from stylish actions fans who are over the moon. The end.

Haha wat.

The reason Capcom outsourced Devil May Cry is because the DMC4 team was busying working on Dragon's Dogma.

But there's a 7.5 review in the OP...

Also what's an activist reviewer? I have seen that phrase being thrown around a lot lately especially in RE6 threads (by that ErikB character).

Yeah, it was ErikB. There's no a ton of logic or meaning behind it, just that if you don't like the review, the reviewer had an agenda/was trying to prove a point ("activist").

I wouldn't be surprised if 7.5 is the lowest. Ninja Theory knows what the critics want and it seems what they want is a repeat of the Dante and Vergil origin with Mundus thrown back in again.

Amazing how even Citizen Kane has plenty of detractors that even includes talented directors, but NT's work is clearly so great that it is impossible for a genuine review to be less than high 80s.

On the other hand that kind of fits Capcom UK perfectly considering their community management and David Reeves still serves Capcom Europe in an advisory committee. And I do still expect high 80s to low 90s in the end.

I know the site is banned and it's looked down upon to throw out numbers by VGChartzz but they finally updated with some pre-order numbers for DmC. If that it is in anyway accurate, DmC is looking to cross 200K first month and possibly 300K as well on NPD.

there's certainly quite a few people who want to play this, I guess the action genre isn't dead.

Is there any particular pre-order bonus?

........
Since Force Edge(Or Sword of Sparada) isn't in this game I can see a squeal with that involved.

I thought about that but what's the point? Sparda is nothing in this game. Just a demon who got punished by Mundus for getting his dick wet.

Yeah, they shouldn't have said that. >_<

Just take it with a grain of salt. Other than looking at retailer trends and lists, there's really no hard data to trust.

Once again, I'm sticking with my prediction of 350k (US) first month.

I doubt their numbers are based on anything (as usual), but January is a pretty dead month and people seem to be fiending for a decent character action game. I think it'll do more than 300k on NPD regardless of reviews.

Played the demo and it's good, fast-paced with a great combat system. Shame that it only runs at 30fps, 60 would benefit this game soooo much.

Will buy for PC.

I'm hoping the game is good, but that tweet's pretty bad.

Should have just said that they're happy with the scores coming out. No need to say some are "genuine" or not.

Right. Ok then DmC2:Vergirl comes back to do stuff
Since NT isn't doing anything new with the story and is instead simply retreading existing plot ideas, I'm guessing Vergil's Downfall will end with him becoming something equivalent to Nelo Angelo.

Which amazon list. Bullshit.

last time I checked the ps3 version was 98 in the uk and in the US 200+

Edit. Oh Japan. Hmmph. Although no small amount of irony is lost on me that once again the territory where capcom continues to say isn't important enough is the one that lines up to buy its products hand over fist.

Same thing with RE:ORC. The Japanese just seem to have a brand loyalty that us westerners don't have.

Looks like I am on track with my prediction that this game is going to sell around 2 million lifetime sales.

Nostradahbomb strikes again.

Japan. It isn't that unusual when the other ps3 games on that list don't come out until late February (21 for MGR and Mar 17 for Hatsune Miku game). The entire first quarter of the PS3 is barren desert for the first calendar quarter of the system.

Seems pretty sketchy that the 7.5 review was removed from the site. Money thrown much?
Wow I just noticed that too. Should've screen capped that image.

At least we have the translations up. My guess is that the review broke embargo.

Well that's not the talk they did earlier. Remember the 5 million + franchise talk?
That was a long time ago and the number was just thrown out randomly... not meant to be a serious estimation at all. 2 million is the official number by Capcom.

Well that's not the talk they did earlier. Remember the 5 million + franchise talk?

They never said their goal for this game were 5 million copies sold. They were only making parallels to other action games that sold that amount and wanted the series to reach those amounts as well. That was it. 2 million was their first and official projection for this game.
