Reading reviews atm got to destructoid's review lol .I'm still not a fan of the music but i think i'll give the game a chance later on when it's cheaper.I'm just not as hyped about it.I guess it's because Revengeance caught my attention.

welp i finally took off the blinders and watched a trailer. this is my first time seeing the game, finding out who the developer is, so forth.

Wow Tesseract you really went caveman style for this game.

There is no crow to be served because reviews are within expected zone (average in the mid to high 80s).

You're legitimately saying that Beast Rider and DMC are on the same level of quality?
 
No one has had the balls to give this game a 10 or a 6-7 yet. All very safe scores.

To be honest even I didn't have the balls to give it anything above an 8. Already being accused of money hats.

Adam Sessler's review was probably the harshest far. That game was just not for him (he doesn't like the other ones either).

Not to side-track too much:

Of course not. I wouldn't suggest it was, especially in production values. But I brought it up because reviews, especially Eurogamers, bring up colour-based attacks as a game crippling flaw on one hand and merely an annoyance on the other. In fact Beast Rider was a Heavenly Sword clone with a fraction of the production values, but the base gameplay (bar the few times you ride beasts) was largely identical in the sense that BR was a carbon copy -- complete with fire-haired heroine.

The lowest it'd ever be during the Summer sale is a 50% sale, so it'd be going fr around $25.

Bro this game is a metric ton better than Beast Rider. That game is Heavenly Sword tier.

- Later levels are lacking

He doesn't like the other DMC games either for some of the same reasons. He was bothered by Dante's characterization as a teen power fantasy.

As a long-time fan of Sessler, I knew that going in. His review was pretty much what I expected out of him.
 
Surprisingle fair and accurate on the review. Sessler at least had the balls to call the game out on it's mediocre story and writing. I know he never liked the story/writings of previous DMC games either which is fine because he didn't adopt some double standard here.

Ninja Theory’s reinvention of Devil May Cry may graft a new look onto the series but the core thrills of dispatching demons in a blaze of blades and bullets remains pleasingly intact. Add to that the cleverly twisted worlds and plenty of meaty challenge and even the so-so boss battles can’t steal this game’s thunder. Gaming in 2013 is off to an impressive start.

In Short: An almost entirely successful reboot that still offers deep and flexible combat but in a more accessible and approachable form – and really, the new Dante’s not that bad.

Pros: Hugely entertaining combat system is fluid, highly versatile, and relatively accessible. Some interesting visual tricks with the backdrops and an earnest, if unsubtle, plot.

Cons: Very minor control issues and a lack of visual identity to some creatures. So-so boss battles and frustrating late-game enemies.

So whilst on the surface it may be full of all the witty pop culture references and profanity we’ve come to expect from a Ninja Theory title, this is most definitely a bona fide Devil May Cry game, with all the associated demon slaying, orb collecting, style ranking madness. And although it can’t quite sustain an initially interesting premise and refreshingly inventive ideas throughout the full length of its twenty half hour chapters, this is a Devil May Cry enlived with renewed assurance, nestled in more than capable hands.

Story has never been the DMC franchise's main draw. Players sink hours into this game unlock combos, pwn the hell out of every enemy and boss they face and laud it over their mates on the leaderboards, and in those depatrments, DmC: Devil May Cry aquits itself admirably.

Dante may be a bit of a prat, but controlling him is as fun as ever and DmC: Devil Cry remains faithful to the series' most important requirements: it plays like a dream and it looks so damn cool.

Our biggest complaint with DmC is that it's a little on the short side. The game's 20 missions shouldn't take more than eight hours to conquer, largely thanks to the reduced difficulty. As entertaining as they are, some boss battles are over within minutes and you never really experience that same feeling of desperation when you've only got a quarter of your energy and one Vital Star.

This is easily rectified by cranking up the difficulty between missions, while completing the game and unlocking the Dante Must Die remix ensures that a second run is suitably different. There are lots of secret missions to unlock too, and the return of Bloody Palace as free DLC after release - although there's no release date or assurances on how deep this mode will be.

Fortunately, while it lasts, DmC: Devil May Cry is a hugely entertaining game with a tight story and unbeatable action. Any fears that the new-look Dante can't fill his white-haired predecessor's boots are soon dispelled, although the incredibly deep combat system is the real star of the show. On this early evidence, 2013 is shaping up to be a great year for hack-and-slash enthusiasts.

It’s obvious why long time fans of Devil May Cry had concerns about the reboot of the series but Ninja Theory have done a lovely job with taking over the reigns. It’s certainly not without its issues, and at this stage in a generation you feel like a game should probably be wielding more graphical clout, but the game’s combat more than makes up for it. It’s simply brilliant, and you can have a lot of fun trying out the different options it presents you. Once Dante’s picked up every weapon there’s simply so much available to you, and it’s what sets the game apart.

The game is different enough in tone and style that with name changes a casual observer wouldn’t know it was a reboot. But fans of the series will recognize the nods to the old version, as well as the way the game plays. While still as slick looking as ever, the minor annoyance of holding a trigger to perform specific maneuvers may keep this game to a single play through for many fans. And for the record, this story and the new look of Dante are much improved. But I was just happy when I heard “Savage!” screamed at me as I watched my style rank go up to triple S. If you wanted some more Devil May Cry to play, DmC is in contention for a top slot in the series.

Only compared to DMC4 and Bayo but it really only matches the story of DMC3 without the same impact or pay off. This one had more exposition but a majority of it was dull and boring especially towards the end. A lot of the reviews which scored it less than a 9 cited the story as a shortcoming for the game and I have to agree, I am not at all raring to go back and see the cutscenes again whereas I have seen some of the DMC3 cutscenes dozens of times.

Doesn't mean it's GOOD, though. Bayonetta is the nadir of video game story and writing. I love me some cheese, DMC3 style, but Bayonetta was just boring and obnoxious. Literally everything is better than that.

Still, I'm glad this game is doing well. I enjoyed all the other DMC's but I pretty much spammed moves and healing items through them. The high end combo dialing doesn't matter to me. This game looks like it's bringing enough to the table to keep me entertained for 6-8 hours of hacking and slashing. I'm pleased.

While this is true it should be considered on its own merits.

Calling the writing bad is hilarious when people go on to compare the combat unfavourably to the previous games in the same breath, though.
 
I am not surprised by the reviews. It was obvious from the start that people would dig this dumbed down game. Still not going to touch this because of the terrible demo.

How can you go on gaf and not know anything, i mean there are dozens of threads with ninja theory and dmc in the title, giving details for the game, etc. you don't even have to visit a thread to know something. You would have had to leave gaf to do a blackout like that.
