Do we expect Twilight Princess HD will get any gameplay improvements? Speculation?

The only change I'd like to see is them applying a skyward sword like cell shade to everything in the game. It would really differentiate it from its initial release.

I feel logically this [if true] will be a test of the graphical engine of the WiiU/NX zelda. I think the "dark palette" haters will receive their wish for a more colourful (cel-shaded) Zelda. It will also cover up the low-poly models better :)

That's horrible. I love TP's opening, hope they don't change it.

I think it's a bad idea too. That's not how I want my Zelda game to start. I want my Zelda games to start like A Link to the Past, if anything. Start right with the drama and throw you into a dungeon. That's my perfect start.

But I think there is an ideal way to make the "learning curve" optional: begin with Link leaving the village. Maybe he is delivering a package to Hyrule Castle on coronation day. A gift for the new Queen. So his reason for leaving is important, but not urgent.

If you know what you're doing, you simply press onward. You go straight to the castle and begin the game proper. But you also have a Concerned Friend™ seeing you off, who says they are worried about you.

You don't have to leave yet. You could stay here another night - just to prepare. I could show you a few things, you know? Just in case.
-Stay and prepare
-I'm ready now

There you go. Skippable tutorial. If you choose to stay, you go back to the village overnight and learn Zelda basics, then go to bed. Then Link leaves for real in the morning.

But if you're playing the game a second time, or simply don't need the tutorial because let's be real, you just leave and embark from that very first scene. You can return to the village at any time and find your friend and ask for help if you need it, or to otherwise mingle with the locals. But there's nothing holding you back when you start.

Maybe I'm alone here but the long boring intro with tutorials as link isn't what I would cut if anything had to go. It's those damn wolf missions where you have to find the tears of light in the bugs. I HATED that. I don't mind the wolf later in the game where you can switch on the fly, but the early missions where you are forced to play as him are just so incredibly boring and monotonous.

Honestly, I don't think the tutorial is bad per se, especially for those who are going to play it for the first time. But it is extremely tedious for those who have already played it and starting subsequent playthroughs. So what Nintendo should do is give the option to skip the whole tutorial part from the get go (e.g. "Have you played Twilight Princess on the GC or Wii before? » Yes or No"), or at the very least give that option after beating the HD remake a first time.

I'm okay with the first two tears of light hunts because they're very contained. It's the third one that is horrible.

Is all this speculation only based on one icon found in the eShop?
Couldn't that be about Wii virtual console?

Only reason why it's not is because I believe people data mined a Nintendo eshop server and saw "Twilight Princess HD" specifically as well as other Wii virtual console releases coming soon.

The icon is also inconsistent with the other Wii games on eShop, and seems to have updated art as well.

And the name "Twilight Princess HD" was directly pulled from Nintendo's title servers.

Oh I see! Seems to be a pretty huge hint!

I can't help but wonder how they can make it non-ugly in HD.

All I know is that I want grass everywhere!

Get rid of the horrible enemy encounter music at pivotal moments in the game. Or better yet, altogether.

Make the overworld seamless like it was originally supposed to be, no "loading zone" corridors.

Don't release the game on the eShop after the presentation or a short time afterwards, the wait for a physical release would be even more grueling if they did.

I just want to play this in higher resolution than 480p. Maybe some texture replacing, but they can keep the core game the same.

Oh, and orchestrated soundtrack.

A more streamlined intro should be at the top of their priority list. It's by far my least favourite part in an otherwise excellent game. The tears don't even bother me that much.

The first three hours of the game are complete suffering. I hope they streamline that.

They're not ideal and it does overstay it's welcome. But at the same time I like the calm and peaceful nature of Zelda openings before things get more grim and serious

With it being a remaster of a game that sold incredibly well, they could have an option to skip the tutorial sections which would be nice

Anyone think there's a chance they go for a more vibrant artstyle as the more vibrant TP Link model?
the art style is already exaggerated enough to be vibrant. They just need to make it have a hint of cell coloring and add in more realistic lighting and the game will already pop on screen. The geometry in the game is already great, just needed better textures on them.

But Zelda 3 intro is best intro

I'm okay with the first two tears of light hunts because they're very contained. It's the third one that is horrible.

third is definitely the worst but I still would like to see them all at the very least streamlined somehow like how they streamlined the triforce shard collecting in Windwaker.

Instead of killing like 20 random bugs hidden in various places, maybe put the light tears in a handful of larger enemies or a miniboss like character so it feels more like you are accomplishing something and less like a random fetch quest.

Much like Wind Waker HD had some nice improvements outside of just a graphical update, do we expect any gameplay improvements for TPHD?

The biggest complaint is the ridiculous long intro/tutorial. Which is such a shame since I know some who gave up on it because of that, missing some of the best dungeons in the series.

Others could me populating the huge, sparse overworld.

Side quests?

Hero Mode?

What are your predictions?

What can Nintendo do to make this more attractive since we know it won't be a under 50 dollars?

If Nintendo is going to remaster Twilight Princess they should go about watching Matthew Matosis review and fixing those errors first.

I'd prefer the boss approach and only the boss approach. I like the idea of there being a hidden boss in each of the three twilight areas that need killed to bring back the light.

I like some of the opening hours so don't get rid of all of it. Just tighten that shit up.

Also lower the mount of tears needed during those sections so they don't go on for quite as long.

I would also love no loading screens between sections of the overworld.

I would pay full price for a version of TP that was just a marathon through the dungeons. Everything in between felt like dull filler to me, but god damn were those dungeons great.

All I want, aside from the expected facelift, is a combination of button controls for the sword and gyro for projectile aiming. There's no need to touch anything else.

It's a great Zelda intro, but I also liked Twilight Princess' view into a couple days in the life of Link before he became the hero. It was a nice angle.

And that's fine, but why the hell do we have to wrangle the goats... twice? The intro as it stands isn't necessary to evoke that.

Is there a 3D Zelda where this isn't an issue? I haven't played Majora's Mask, but Ocarina of Time's overworld is both empty & small, Skyward Sword has the sky overworld with not much of anything in it and Wind Waker has the ocean which has huge stretches of nothingness. They're all a far cry from the 2D fare like Link to the Past & Link's Awakening (where the overworld is practically a dungeon in and of itself).

As you say, pretty much every 3d zelda game suffers from this, except A Link Between Worlds, which is a fantastic game.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask worlds were not as empty, but mostly because they are very small and condensed.

In my opinion, Wind Waker had the best overworld. The sea has a lot of empty sections, sure, and sailing was really boring thanks to the stupid wind mechanic; however, in every square of the map you would find some interesting island to explore, optional hidden dungeons, even a house to live in. Wind Waker was a much better game in that regard.

The overworld in Skyward Sword was really underwhelming... after seeing how big and full of content Skyloft was, I was expecting a huge overworld with tons of locations to visit, instead of an empty sky that works as background for a very unfunny flying minigame. It was very lazy in design, I think.

My expectations are very high with this last Zelda U project, though. I think they're getting right what's important about making a huge overworld:

- Tons of optional content.
- Seamless world.
- Freedom to go where you want.
- Different ways of overcoming obstacles.
- Making a consistent world were if you get to a high place you can figure it out and plan your journey. The new cloth/parachute thing, which was the best that Wind Waker brought out (in the form of the Deku Leaf) is playing a huge part in this I'm saying: being able to reach a high place and jump/glide from there to get yourself to somewhere, instead of having to walk the obligatory land path.

I know you were already technically answered but here's the summary (for the most part) I posted on page 3 (posting again not just for you but for everyone else who just came in the last 2 pages):

No, it's not just based on a render.

I've summed this up in the Direct thread but I'll do it again:

This all started when dataminers found on the eShop servers a Twilight Princess icon with no Wii logo banners like for Wii digital titles -- this is what you would see on the Wii U OS if you had the game either in disc form or digitally. Because it had no Wii logo banners on the top or bottom of the icon, it was very suspicious.

Then about a day later, some people investigated Nintendo's title update servers using the NUS Downloader application which "downloads" whatever title updates Nintendo has newly added to their servers. Within this list of title updates it included new VC titles, new Wii digital titles, and two Wii U games. One of those Wii U games was Twilight Princess HD, verbatim, word for word.

You can see the list here which includes everything up to now. Just search "Twilight Princess HD" and you'll find it with its unique Title ID.

And then the damning part of it is the new Link render which was shown in one of the Investor's/Shareholder's Meeting slides. It is the exact pose of one of the first artworks of Link for TP albeit in a more colorful way and him holding the Master Sword instead -- but very clearly is attempting to be an updated render much in the same way WWHD received an updated render for Link reflecting the new lighting changes WWHD received.

It's basically happening.

I expect minor changes like fixing the way the red armour works but little more than that. Hopefully we get hero mode, that would be a bonus.

It's funny though, I didn't want them to change the visual style of Wind Waker at all and was upset when they put in bloom and all the rest. I didn't want 'the original artistic look of the game' to be compromised.

But I find myself to be a hypocrite here, because I hated the general visual 'tone' of Twilight Princess, and I'm kind of hoping they go to town changing colours and lighting and the rest of it. Fuck the original artistic vision. Hyrule Field was sooooo damn ugly.

Meant to say added cell shading, my bad. That would make the visuals that much greater.

Well here's to hoping that it actually comes out relatively soon. I'm finally playing Wind Waker for the first time on WiiU and while I still didn't like the intro, almost gave up on the game actually I finally got through to the good stuff. I'm having fun with it now.

I tried playing Twilight Princess a few years ago, but fell victim to the intro boredom, I think I got like 3 hours in and just gave up. I would love to see them make some quality of life improvements and speed up that intro in any way possible. Even if they don't I think I'll just use a guide to finish it as quick as possible and get to the meat of the game. I haven't shown Nintendo a lot of love since the N64 days. I was one of those crazy die hard type that drove 4 hours out of state to an Import shop to get an Import N64 and Mario 64. I used to buy and play everything Nintendo since the beginning, but when the Playstation came out I just never really returned.
