Do you return shopping carts?

Well, do you?

I push my cart back to the storage area in the store.

Putting the cart return specialists out of work... smh.

so long as you prop it up that they won't move into a car or something and you're not leaving them in the middle of a parking spot so people can't park.

I have no problem with this, although I will almost always park near a cart return to save any extra mileage on my sneakers.

Yes, always.

I fucking hate when the supermarket is full, you get to the one empty parking space and you have to step out of your car to remove a shopping cart before you can park. Because not only was someone a lazy asshole that couldn't return the cart, they had to go out of their way and just put it right in the middle of a parking spot.

I park far away from the entrances and as close to the corrals as I can, to give myself more of a walk into the store and then when I'm all done it's a quick hop from my car over to put the cart away.

That’s the high IQ zone of the parking lot. People who park by corrals tend to use the corrals.

The people who are obsessed with parking by the store’s front door are animals.

I park somewhat near the cart corral to make it easier for myself.

But I also park further away in the lot so the end result is the attendant has to walk much further.

Lawful Evil, I guess.

Context-sensitive.

If I'm parked near the corral, I return it.
If the lot I'm in is usually full and cramped, I return it.
Otherwise I just push the cart to a corner between the spaces and go on my way, and that's best imo. It's not worth my time to walk the distance to a storage zone and then back to my car when many of the people parking in these same spots will be looking for a cart. It saves them time.

Every time. Only exception is if there’s like a bunch randomly sitting on a curb already then I might just add my cart to the pile since the rest are getting picked up anyway.

Wow I'm amazed at the percentages, honestly.
While I don't return them (unless they have my $ in them) I also don't leave them in a parking spot and will put it on a kerb out of the way.

Guess I'm an animal.

If it's someone's job to do that, then what's the harm of leaving it? Keeps them busy and I don't think anyone is going to blame them if a rogue hits something.

No, because put more thought and care into the well-being, work ability, and health of the employees than most people; I don’t give a rat’s ass if some rando incorrectly judges me for not being considerate.

We are in a pandemic. This shit is spread by close contact with people. The second common way to get shit is through aerosol transmission indoors. I am making sure these people, who don’t get paid nearly enough and aren’t treated by many with the respect they deserve, that I do the bare minimum to keep them safe, and that is to go out of my way to ensure I caused them to stay less time of their shifts indoors and away from people.

Fuck optics, I put though into this and actually give a damn about these workers.

Creative way to be lazy. Worker is more likely to be ran over trying to obtain carts in weird spots you leave them.
Getting ran over by a car survival rate 73%
Getting Rona survival rate 99.?%

Lazy bones

I actually go out of my way to put them in the grass. Besides, you’re forgetting settlement and/or monetary compensation due to hit and run. I took this into consideration too. I... overthink things at times, but it has its pros and cons.

The worker has to get on the grass to get the cart and steps in a huge pile of dog shit. He goes inside restroom trying to scrape it off as person after person comes in and out exposing him to potential covid-19.

Next day he feels ill but he still pushes through and gets to work. He knows all those random carts left everywhere could block the handicap parking or get loose and smash into a young mom pushing her small child in a stroller.

Unbeknownst to him hes covid positive. As he walks those stray carts in he passes them on to anyone that needs one, infecting everyone. Weeks later a pep pep and nana stay down for the count.

He never knew the damage he caused. To be be precise you do not know the damage you caused.

Save pep pep and nana. Return your cart.

Dude Nymphae Nymphae sounds like you'd enjoy one of my favorite YouTube channels, Cart Narcs

I always return my cart. Would hate to be a lazy bones and have someone catch me in a pit maneuver

Legiterally laugh so hard watching these

mehhh...the guy is just an asshole, who is hiding behind carts to justify being an annoying prick. He didn’t have a right to touch his car, and if someone tells you to leave them, leave them alone.

if he gets his ass kicked, I get the feeling he wont hesitate to call the cops and his lawyers if things go south.

and before anyone cries, I always return the cart

So in spring when covid lock downs first happened they had a line up outside the grocery store cause of the limit of people allowed in the store at one time. So I pointed out to my wife that it didn't make sense for us both to go in and I would wait in the car.
While I was waiting I noticed all the stray carts in the parking lot. You know the ones left by lazy assholes who can't be bothered to follow even the simplest social norms.
So I walked around the parking lot and returned them all to the coral. Probley a dozen or so.

Yeah, thats my exciting story.
If you'd like an autograph let me know.

That’s exactly what I’m doing; I’m doing it and fucking off and not caring what anyone who sees me driving away thinks. With all due respect, call it what you want, but it changes nothing; mental effort of choice is greater than perceived optics IMO.

I don't walk it back into the building like some tree-hugging bitch, but I do place it in the carousels in the parking lot.

My first job was as a bagger at 14 years old and I had to go get those carts. It's hard physical work doing that for hours at a time in the summer at a busy store.

I had to do the same, but in a Minnesota winter, so I have a lot of sympathy for the cart guys. It's just common courtesy anyway. I could maybe see it if the cart corral was really far away, but parking lots now have several in every row. It's like literally 5-10 seconds to put the cart in the corral and walk back to your car. No excuse not to.

Also just FYI for everyone the cart guy has other jobs. It's not like they sit around all day waiting for a stray cart to be out.

I liked a bit of one that I watched that was linked earlier, the guy is in the right obviously, but yeah these don't feel as satisfying as Stop a Douchebag videos, feels a bit like opportunist bullying here that will have no effect, this kind of thing probably makes people leave their carts out more to spite this asshole lol

lol @ the justification "I'm saving someone else time getting a cart by just leaving it here", the only time that's acceptable is when you're literally handing the cart off to another person in the lot

As someone who at one time worked as a cart attendant, people leaving carts by their car instead of putting it in the corral annoys the shit out of me. The only thing worse is when they leave it on grass islands or on the wrong side of the corral.

This is not an issue where I live. I've hardly seen carts get left behind like that. Some stores have implemented brakes that activate when the cart moves too far away from the parking lot, to prevent vandalism and theft though.

In NL all supermarket-carts have a coin slot to unlock, stores even give out special 'coins' you can use.

The trick is to take a hammer/stick, and give the thing a good whack, then you can get your coin back without putting the cart back.
