1UP: You mentioned there are 103 monkeys in the game. Is that symbolically speaking, or are there literally 103 monkeys found in the game? What is the significance in there being 103 monkeys?

TI: Sorry, I might have been drunk when I told you this, but it's 108 monkeys, not 103. The number 108 is the number of worldly desires in Buddhist teachings. That mountain stage was originally supposed to be full of tourists, but at a certain point, for some reason it became a monkey-filled mountain [laughs]. There is one white monkey that is supposed to be the boss monkey, and three other monkeys that are apparently his consorts.

The lead designer of DOA4 started getting all fancy with the monkey animations, and eventually began giving them all names. This all escalated out of control until the point that now he says he wants to make an all-monkey fighting game. Not one of those throw-away "mini-games" that I hate so much, mind you, but "full-fledged hardcore monkey combat" is how he pitches it. What's going on with him, I wonder? [laughs] Besides, in the first place only the white boss monkey was supposed to have fur, but then this lead designer tricked the programmers working on the Monkey Mountain stage, and next I knew all 108 monkeys had fur. It's craziness.

"full-fledged hardcore monkey combat"

:lol :lol

sign me up - I would be a chimp, but only if he fights drunken boxing style :D

1UP: Please tell us about what the new characters' names and fighting styles are. There's the Mystery Wrestler, who appears to, uh, wrestle (and looks suspiciously like Lisa from DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball). Then there's Elliot, who has a sword. What is his style? And who is the new female character in the kimono with the long hair?

TI: The wrestler looks like Lisa? That must be your imagination! [laughs] She is a professional practitioner of Lucha Libre [a type of Mexican pro wrestling that features incredible acrobatic moves] and is of American nationality.

well, that pretty much confirms it's Lisa :lol :lol :lol

IIRC, he said previously that one of the characters in the then upcoming DOAX would be in an upcoming DOA game.

Edit: Is it just me, or is the depth of field in this pic better than it was in other pics of the stage?

It could just be the fact that i really need sleep, but using the fence on the bridge as reference, there seems to be a incremental loss of focus the further objects are from the camera. Foreground characters are very sharp, and at the first part of the fence it seems to be a bit out of focus, getting slightly more unfocused. The far background still looks too blurred, but the various parts of the middleground seem to be improved.

Or maybe i just need sleep.

she's a masked lucha libre wrestler... he can't reveal her identity!

read between the lines!

Don't get me wrong, Mr. Itagaki is sorta legend, but he contridicts himself alot. He brings his prescious DOA to DC 'cos it's: "the most powerful system on the market" yet it get's overshadowed by Soul Caliber, then he moves the Hardcore version of it to PS2 saying it's: "the most powerful system on the market" then when it get's outsold by Tekken he runs to MS proclaiming it: "the most powerful hardware" on the market even in light of all those who ask him why not support Sony or Nintendo (who, in Japan, would garnish higher sales for his games) and he stuck with the it's: "the most powerful system on the market" excuse. THEN, in the face of X-BOX 360 not being: "the most the most powerful system on the market" he goes and changes his tune completly saying how he now prefers a system that offers better enemy AI, which (you guessed it), was X-BOX 360...classic contradiction!

He also says he hate's "throw-away mini games" HA HA HA...what's DOA Volleyball...ha, and wasn't he kicking around the idea of a dress up/modelling idol game featuring the DOA girls? This guy is full of sh!t sometimes. I always thought his games were always knock-off's of someone elses (DOA = VF, DOA Volleyball = Beach Spikers & Ninja Gaiden = Shinobi) and yet he acts like he's this gaming god. What's funny is his Team Ninja: "understands computers way better than anyone else" yet he high-tailed it to MS and Mr. Kojima's team at Konami (who truly DO know computers) got SUPERB visuals from the "anceint" PS2 hardware for MGS3.

I'm still bitter over that Tecmo Ninja Gaiden poll if you can't tell. You know what would be awesome? If Revolution's downloadable game service does offer access to all those old NES games (including the original 3 Ninja Gaiden's) and we all download them and then Tecmo takes notice and says: "hey look, looks like our Ninja Gaiden audience is on Revolution" and then decides to make a new one for us. That would be cool...this downloadable classic game service can be used for tracking and polls and voting and research into audiences & demographics...not to mention offering rare games or games that might've been overlooked in the past or maybe even newer games or games that never got finnished, etc., etc.
