Loved the episode but, I had 1 problem. Isn't
Skaro inside the Time Lock? I mean, didn't the Doctor Time Lock the entire Time War? How the hell could the Tardis get there?
Oh & the 2 huge surprises/reveals were amazing :D Can't wait for next Saturday :D

After further consideration, I'm falling more in line with Oswin regaining some form of humanity as the series progresses. If she can hack into all the advanced Dalek stuff (though possibly being one helped), she could be able to upload some portion of herself to the Tardis. Instead of cracks in the universe being the "arc-thing", we may get little snippets of conversations between her and the Doctor, leading up to her restoration in or just before the Christmas special.

Also, is adoption not a big thing in the UK, or is it just a plot-point that will be bugging me on future re-watches?

Wait, I'm calling it now.
Oswin didn't upload herself into the Dalek Hive Mind, instead Amy, Rory and the Doctor are going to remember her and WILL HER BACK INTO EXISTENCE!
I SEE NOTHING WRONG HERE!

so this is amazing but slightly loses its impact on here.

I think what you spoilered is what's going to make her character interesting. As long as they go post-Asylum with her character, I think having that kind of relationship with the Doctor would be amazing. Plus, I like the idea of a companion that is brilliant on their own, instead of always having the Doctor be the brilliant one and save the day.

Plus, she can't get any more Mary Sue than River Song.

True, that bugs me about River too, and Amy to some extent.

I think it might be a case of wibbly-wobbly

I can't wait for Amy to be gone. Rory's cool though.

The purpose of the companion is to keep the Doctor's ego in check but how can that be possible when the companion's ego dwarfs the Doctor's?

It did kind of weird me out how established the Daleks were considering the last time we saw them they had just come back from near extinction. But I guess with time travel it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, the opening ten minutes were the weakest part of the episode, felt very much like they wrote that part last as a way to get the Doctor down into the asylum

There is a new Dalek Paradigm after all, I'm sure that helped. Plus, it's the Dalek's. If anyone's good at establishing themselves after near extinction, it's them!

good ep for a season start .. juts like the last season where it started real good too.
the end twist i saw miles away she hacked dalek tech like their security was garbage , that was already the clue i needed ..
i'm also surprised they didn't show the doctor healing the pond couple .unnecessary i know since they got by the power of love but amy seemed seriously affected.*

i didn't expect a localised format on the predator files ...this will open some nice twists up in the season i hope.

Nice ep

Hats off to the production team managing to keep JLC's appearance under wraps. I spent a good minute or two going, "oh crap, is that who I think it is?"

Ditto. That was the big twist for me. Her being a Dalek was not a shock after a few moments. Now to see how they bring her in.

Also, I loved that when you looked at Oswin's room, you can see it's shaped like the interior of a Dalek shell.

I will say the Amy and Rory stuff wasn't working so well for me this ep. Kind of felt like the breakup plot was just there to give them something to do even though the focus was on Oswin.

You know, I wonder what the difference between a mad Dalek and a regular ass Dalek is

I was disappointed to find that they weren't happy and helpful instead. That's what makes them insane, they just want to lend a hand!

ALLEVIATE.

CONTEMPLATE!!!

Holy shit, an entire planet of Daleks hallucinating that they were human would have been amazing

I suspected a twist, but the answer still caught me off guard. Trying to figure out why she is so smart, I thought for sure that Oswin was a time lord. Then when she was talking about going out and exploring space, I was confident that it was actually the Doctor's clone from a while back. The fact that she was able to do stuff because she was connected to the hive mind as a dalek was a thought that never crossed my mind.

I hope it's something about going back and saving her after she was transformed. I think the Doctor traveling with a Dalek could be fun. Be like Seven of Nine again.

I am on the "Hey, wasn't Scaro destroyed/time locked?" train.

Otherwise....OMG. Amazing episode. Are we allowed to speculate here? I have so much spec ahhh. I'll spoiler it just in case.

I have a strong feeling that the Daleks all forgetting the Doctor is going to be the direct cause for the Fall of the Eleventh. I called it! Also, that Amy's almost conversion is going to bite them all in the ass hard when it it turns out it wasn't almost and they have to kill her. Noooooo. Y'all are totally allowed to make fun of me if this doesn't turn out to be true. I love foreshadowing and grew up on Joss Whedon, so I tend to over examine stuff hee.

If that is true, then my theory about Rory becoming the fallen hero will be true!

I think the Scaro we saw was a future version after the time lock. I don't know if what I just said makes any sense whatsoever.

Like, the timelock affects a certain period of time, but before and after that period is un-timelocked.

That conversation they had alone was heartbreaking. Still gets me.

I still say
they get stranded in New York and raise young River/Melody after the Weeping Angels send them back in time.

After the reveal that she cannot have children, this will most likely come to pass.

Rassilon attempting to bring back Gallifrey in The End of Time may have had some effects on the Time Lock. Skaro could've been spat out, and restored. Probably not the correct explanation, but I'm okay with it. Kind of glad we're sort of moving on from it and getting things slowly restored. Cybermen aren't the Cybus versions anymore, too.

I thought the same thing. Arthur and Karen owned that scene.

Feels really sad, man. Some powerful acting.

If you watched the Confidential episode on The Impossible Astronaut, Karen was really upset after filming the Doctor's death scene with him on the ground. Wasn't on camera, but Alex Kingston was talking about it. I can only imagine how they did that scene.

i kind of expcted a source code type tthing when they were trapped in the ship. Also she was way to smart to be a time lord.

I have a no idea how oswin is going to be a companion.

I was really disappointed by the line about the Daleks becoming stronger because they were afraid of the Doctor. I thought that they were gonna use the reset button to make the Daleks way more ruthless by saying that they were constantly afraid of the Doctor coming over and ruining their plans, so them forgetting him makes them afraid of absolutely nothing.

What I don't understand is if all this human stuff is a created fiction in Oswin's mind how come her soufflees don't come out perfect every time?

That was a really lackluster episode, both in reveal and execution.

We didn't have any continuation of the cliffhanger. It was treated like any other episode.

I know Moffat is too good a writer to just drop The Silence, and he's been building them up for, what, three years now?

Normally I am annoyed by that type of character (don't like River, not a huge fan of 11, although he's getting better) but for some reason Oswin works for me. At least what we've seen so far. If she becomes infatuated with the Doctor then we might have a problem.

The ep was great, but I'm not sure about Oswald. Other than
being a Dalek
, she just seemed too perfect and Mary Sue-ish.

Yeah Oswin came off as a "River done right" to me. While River just seemed like a fangirl's self-insert "Oh I can do all this stuff with the Tardis" "Look at me flirt with the Doctor" "SO MUCH SEXUAL TENSION" while Oswin just seemed like a cocky, but brilliant hacker/computer genius.

I thought the ultimate reveal of her as a Dalek was extremely effective. Knowing that she was going to eventually be a companion just made me assume that she would be fine the entire episode. So it came as a total shock when the eventual reveal came.

I was thinking the same thing. This had to have been probably THE best scene I've experienced in Doctor Who so far. Bar none. I've been really slow to becoming a full fledged "Whovian" but the show has been growing on me more and more and more. I mean the script, the chilling music, the "cutting back and forth" Just brilliant!

My initial theory is
I keep thinking with the way she says "Remember" there's going to be something involved with the Doctor meeting her past self and through some kind of crazy timey-wimey twist by the end of the season she'll wind up back on the Alaska forgetting about the Doctor by the time the Past Doctor meeting her for the first time.

Of course I like the the STII-ish idea of her consciousness coming into play somehow, or even Forrester's "Seven of Nine" idea.

On a crazy related note, watching Dan vs right afterward, my sister and I can't unsee the similarity between Chris & Elise and the Ponds now.

Loved the opener. I'm kind of in love with Oswin now. I knew that a new Companion was coming, and I'd seen a photo of her, so I figured Oswin was the new Companion, but then that final twist and her getting incinerated, I was like... "the fuck?" I really like her and her serious snark. I was hoping to see some truly insane Daleks instead of just the usual... exterminate exterminate, and then seeing her at the end like that was pretty intriguing/horrifying.

Matt Smith is awesome as the Doctor as usual. I chuckled at the "I'm so sorry" bit, flashbacks of 10. The Pond's marriage drama was sorta bleh though. I'm surprised River just doesn't hang out with them more often. But a good opener. I really liked how Amy's hallucination was filmed, with the dancing people as Daleks.

And Lestrade's in next week's episode!

Oh God, and the chin jokes. Hahaha.

Dr Who is like Final Fantasy for me. Just so vast, so many episodes. Where the fuck to begin. Also, British humor makes me uneasy.

Are you asking how to get into the show?

Watch these-
Season 3-Blink
Season 4-Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Then start with Season 5 and you're set.

Obviously there are good episodes prior to this, but if you're looking to get into the current series this is the way to go. Get caught up and you can always go back and watch the older ones if you like.

Loved the episode thanks to oswin, I expected the twist but only realized it like 15mins before the reveal (yeah I felt really dumb maybe it was cause of the lack of sleep at the time).

-dame it oswin should have been the new companion, yes I wish that dalek would of joined the team
-am sick of amy, why won't she leave already? she's long overstayed her welcome a season ago :(

- the dalek stuff was disappointing, I expected some crazy daleks I got some normal dirty harmless daleks who couldn't aim for shit, who knows why those daleks in the ship where so scared of them.

It's been stated before that the Doctor can carry actually people in his mind. I predict something's going to happen to someone in the Christmas episode and Oswin will be able to hijack there brain or something similar.
