Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

They have a chance to do spunky female lead right this time, I feel. If they can avoid the mistakes of River (loves the Doctor), Amy (acts like an annoying college girl in a foreign country), Martha (loves the Doctor) or Rose (loves the Doctor) Oswin might be really entertaining. I want to see her and the Doctor running around getting on each others nerves.

Amy also loves the Doctor. And we had the supreme awkwardness of her trying to fuck The Doctor at 7pm on a Saturday night. She doesn't need to be spoken for or have a superfluous character boyfriend for her not to get up on The Doctor Moffatt!

Definitely, I'd love the Doctor having to reign in his own little Doctor haha And of course, there's the Dalek part of her that will introduce some interesting conflicts as well. Seriously, if Moffat doesn't keep that important factor of her in way, shape, or form, then I'll feel like there was a lot of squandered potential with the Dalek reveal.

I'm calling it, for either all or part of the series she'll be inside the Dalek shell. We'll still see her played by Jenna-Louise through the eyestalk in her "fantasy world", but outside she'll be a Dalek. The Doctor will respect her and her genius, but will also have to get over the fact that she's technically his worst enemy. He really struggled with that towards the end, didn't he?

Just watched the episode. Why is it I liked Amy and Rory more in the first five minutes than I did in practically the whole of Series 6? Well, even if they both looked like they got pulled through a Toni & Guy backwards.

And this is why Donna is best pony companion.

We need someone intelligent who can challenge the Doctor, but not be a Mary Sue.

Edit: Did I miss something, not looking at any of the previous pages, or has Oswin been confirmed to return as a companion or something, from what everyone is saying?

Whether it makes sense or not, it's consistent with the show's logic for the Dalek to becomes stronger due to their fear of the Docter. Wasn't that the point of the previous series?

If this is the case, would the show need to pay royalty for every episode?

Because they actually acted like real people (i.e. having genuine problems and appearing somewhat impacted with what happened on Demon's Run)

After rewatching the episode I'm going to hazard a guess and say Oswin boarding up the entrance to her imaginary room is her keeping out her "Dalekness" and holding onto her humanity.

I thought that just represented the real-world asylum daleks trying to get into her room whilst she played the Carmen, but you might be onto something.

Actually those boards were the first clue everything wasn't as it seemed, boarded up doors keeping out a Dalek?!

As much as I like Doctor Who, I hate it for the fact that it genuinely makes me hate most of society. It brings out the absolute stupidest of the community.

On this companion thing and UGGGH ANOTHER SASSY FEMALE... while the Doctor is male, having a female companion (at the least, sometimes plus others male or female) helps provide some balance and then obviously you want them to be more modern and strong and not cowering. I think it just happens naturally with the format of the show.

She was originally announced as the companion months ago, which is why the whole Dalek twist threw everyone for a loop

will totally Facebook friend you! *giggle* *LOL*
The room felt too literal for it to not be somehow a real place. They'll probably retcon in something about Daleks miniaturizing people or something to allow the Doctor to extract her. It seems more likely Moffat would an employ a "save her"/"everybody wins" type scenario than have the Dotor run around with an imaginary Oswin/real Dalek or to just sve her from an earlier time stream and wipe her memory later. This seems very much liek a River trapped in the library type scenario to me.

That's what I thought too, but you gotta remember the Big Bang finale with the Dalek chasing the gang around.

I don't actually think that Rory heard the Dalek say exterminate in The Big Bang. I mean maybe at the beginning where the Dalek is revived by the Pandorica, but Rory walks in after the Dalek is done talking. After that I don't believe the Dalek ever says exterminate again even when he shoots the Doctor.

I liked the slow realization they were saying exterminate any way. It was very suspenseful and I think it worked.

Either way, she blew herself up, so Moffat kinda has to write himself out of that corner as well.

That's probably it, yeah.

I haven't been keeping up on news or rumours so I assumed the opposite. I actually saw the twist coming from a mile away. :p

Also, I have to admit I genuinely did feel like face-palming when Rory started dicking about over the "egg" things. It just felt silly to watch.

Oh, and in my head I found it funny to imagine that, instead of getting kidnapped, the Daleks just killed Rory again, instead. :p

This reaction is really problematic for Sherlock. That fanbase has poured over the six episodes and turned every minor detail into the biggest deal. The community's personal interpretation of the characters are so wildly off that it's hard to believe they actually watched the same show. The Sherlock/Watson "romance" jokes in the show are massively overplayed, for example. Sherlock has been turned into a loveable kawaii know-it-all. And so on.

The smallest contradiction to that will pretty much explode the internet and make it impossible to have any decent conversation about the show. The internet ruins things that are fun.

I've read people (Tumblr, I need to stop with that site) getting super-upset about the relationship jokes, because it's...I don't know, making light of their obvious relationship. Tumblr's really fucking odd. People make good points every now and again, but generally, they're really odd.

The livestream comment feed is hard to handle during the episode, too. Five different posters thought a shit fit and "can't enjoy this new Who anymore" because Carla said she "went through a phase."

OMG HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT A PHASE I'M BISEXUAL AND TRULY OFFENDED BY MOFFAT I CAN NEVER WATCH THIS SHOW ANYMORE

good god.

There is a certain segment of the "fan" population that drives me absolutely nuts. Part of my problem with Moffat's run is that it feels like he panders to that crowd to an extent.

1) I wonder if Christmas has something to do with Clara's "resurrection". Every Christmas episode of Moffat's has a fairy tale aspect to it, so I can see him maybe rescuing her for his year's good deed.

2) I wonder if we'll see strangely attractive, middle aged redhead leather wearing merc Dalek chick and her hooligans again.

You should all stay away from http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/doctor-who

A few choice excerpts;

"MY FEELINGS MOFFAAAAAAAT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY FEEELINGS JHWASDASGDGJFGAJFGAJFDGHFJADGSFJAGDF"

"SO MANY AMY AND RORY FEELS. and i haven’t even watched half their episodes yet."

"I love amy pond sfm ugh wut is this show gonna do to you now????????"

"I've seriously just died of Doctor Who amazingness. My fangirling is now on overdrive and now 'm just laying on the floor on tumblr fangirling until the next Doctor Who comes out."

I dunno, I find the overexcitement of your average Tumblr fanperson to be pretty charming. The only bad news is, they don't exactly give off "fans for life" vibes, even though they should.

It's what I'm saying.

Sorry, my post before edit wasn't a very good post. I edit all of my posts way too many times.

I was looking at that just as you were. So let's be fair: there's crazy people who liked the episode too. I'm not saying that people who didn't like it were insane, just the sheer passion from both extremes is rather off-putting.

Notice as well the sheer amount of GIF's. You can basically watch the entire episode non-linearly, sorta like Pulp Fiction, through Tumblr.

It's more charming than the venom and bile, I'll give you that. But after you see Tumblr continually lose their collective shit over John Green books for five years running, it gets a little less entertaining.

I'm familiar enough with the Community fanbase to know what you mean. For all the hashtag campaigns, there's a million "CHARACTER X HAS A CRUSH ON CHARACTER Y" washed-out gifs :lol

I find it annoying when fans make it personal too much. I know there's clear things when you can describe it around Moffat or other writers of being a fixture of their work or style, but it's when the chat about female characters becomes personal insults of MOFFAT HATES WOMEN.

I wish they had kept Oswin, a Insane Dalek would be fun. I always like those type of characters.

I can't see it happening (in that fashion.) The Doctor wouldn't want to allow her to remain as a Dalek with knowledge that she is a human. We've seen he handles other characters in that situation, such as the Cybermen. It's just kinder to kill them and put them out of their misery. That's why I'm so curious as to how they'll bring her back. It can't be so simple as to save her before she was turned into a Dalek OR to leave her as a Dalek.

Fangirls squee, it's what we do :p. but honestly my squee tends be more subdued than most.

I have almost zero external squee. I will admit to a bit of internal squee though (deep down inside.)

Maybe it is a different person. Perhaps Clara Oswin is Oswin Thingie's great-grandmother or something.

Some thoughts:

Holy hell, Melia is smoking hot. We are calling her Melia, right? Ok, Oswin. Anyways, Robb Stark is a lucky man.

I think it would be a hilarious sendup of show conventions to give the Doctor a Dalek companion. Too bad it would never happen. Even for just episode it would be awesome.

So with Oswin, is the consensus that we are going to get a River Song type of deal where the Doctor encounters her earlier in her timestream with the fact that she is going to later turn into a Dalek and get killed always hanging over the proceedings?

That review is fucking stupid. Objectively.

The Daleks forgot the Doctor at the end – that was a cool moment, for about five seconds, until then they all started yelling “DOCTOR WHO? EXTERMINATE!” – oh, so you made the whole Dalek empire forget who you were and then reintroduced yourself!? Well that was a smart thing to do! They’re not forgetting you now after you materialise into their ship, taunt them and then leave!

Way to miss the point by a mile and a half. It's as if he thinks the problem between the Daleks and the Doctor has been his attitude and being a tease about his name. And not the countless wars, nearly killing them off a couple of times and having been a huge nuisance for thousands of years.

Rest is just as stupid. "OMG, they already did the kids plots, get creative".

I can't remember but was the TARDIS being remotely controlled (way back in the pandorica days) ever explained or is that plot point still left unresolved?

I don't think it was every explicitly explained, but it was already stated that somehow the Silence took over the TARDIS somehow. I think the implication was that there was a Silence in the TARDIS ever since the Lodger.

Here is Amy spotting a Silence (though it is never shown, she's doing the same thing that everyone else has done with the Silence by reacting, and then instantly forgetting.)

Take note that this is also the same episode where a spaceship identical to the Silence spaceship in Series 6 is found. My theory is that a Silence from the spaceship boarded the TARDIS somehow and has been tinkering with it up until the Big Bang when everything reset.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing that disproves my theory that someone will bring up lol

I always thought the Silence just came across the ship on Earth many years ago (I assumed it was the same one from the Lodger episode). I mean they do state they get people to make things for them rather than do it themselves.

The Doctor does say that only a scientist (or someone of that calibre) could take control of the TARDIS. The Silence doesn't really fit into that category.

I doubt it, just because she said that was her first trip into space and she didn't recognize him at all.

Well, the Silence may be smarter than we get the impression of. Plus, they could've just influenced a scientist to man the ship for them. Or something. Either way, it's hard to deny that what Amy spotted was a Silence (Silent?).

Probably true, but I'd like it if they'd address it directly. Tie all three series together.

Definitely, it's odd that such a major plot point would end up just being left to speculation.

Also, I'm still confused as to whatever Silence Will Fall means. First it was implied to mean that the Silence will take over since it was used as a thread to the Doctor, then it was implied to mean the Doctor's silence when he dies, now it means that the organization will crumble at the Fall of the Eleventh?

I'm holding out for a long running arc that'll tie back into that mysterious prototype TARDIS. Maybe a stranded time lord that escaped the time lock, perhaps the meddling monk played by patrick stewart or something silly like that.

Now watch as we never hear of it again.

I think one and two are the same thing (they're the Silence because their goal is to silence him), and three is just irony.

Which has been a big problem with Moffat's run. It feels like some plot threads are just forgotten.

Ooooh, good point. I'm glad, we got enough of that already. I hope her return is satisfying and not just techno-babbled away, like there's some secret Dalek technology that allows her to save her consciousness or somesuch.
