Doctor Who Series Seven |OT| The Question You've Been Running From All Your Life

I think it would have immortalised Tennant amongst fans. My big problem with his tenure (and I think I'm not alone here) is the large amount of guff stories and cheese he had to put up with, despite his fantastic performance in the role, and S5 radically fixed a lot of my larger concerns with the show pre-Moffat, so I think I'd be a lot more appreciative of Tennant if that chain of events had occurred. As it is, it made it really, really easy to fall in love with Matt as 11.

I bet S6 would have turned out a lot differently if it was Matt's first series too.
The big assumption with that is if Matt would have been the Doctor if he had come in on S6 instead of S5, he may have gotten another gig in the mean time.

In some mirror universe David stayed on for season 5 and we had a different Doctor for number 11.

The Twelfth Doctor Confidential is on Sunday. BBC 1, 7 o'clock.

Shhhh.

I'm not just blowing smoke, by the way. That's what the embargo is about. Bumps a Celebrity Mastermind repeat out of the schedule.

Not true! It's Celebrity Mastermind. Although, it's a repeat, so something could be filling it. Didn't Moff say recently though that they hadn't cast anyone yet? Or is it just Moff being Moff?

I really hope they don't reveal the new Doctor beforehand. How amazing would it be if we didn't know who it'd be until he actually regenerates? Also, those Capaldi rumours better be true. He would easily be the best Doctor ever.

Have you got this confirmed? Because despite the embargo, we've had too many Twitter driven rumours end up in nothing that I might as well bathe in salt whenever I read one on there. :p

It's not a Twitter rumour, or, if it is, that's not where I've got it from. I've been told by a person who would know, and who I have absolutely no reason to disbelieve. It may not be true, I haven't seen first hand evidence, but I'm just passing on what I've heard.

He also said that, when the deal was done, they'd publicise it as soon as possible to prevent it from leaking out and dulling the PR punch that a big announcement would provide.

I'd guess the truth was somewhere in the middle. At the time of Comic Con, Moffat probably had a firm idea of who his man (or woman!) was, but the contracts weren't nailed down or there may have been more than one contender in the mix.

I think the chances of the identity of the new Doctor not being leaked before he appears on screen, even if it is during the Anniversary Special as the conspiracy theory goes, are slim to none. If they want a full run starting next August, they'll have to start filming this year, and the realities of the Christmas break and the filming schedules mean he'll almost certainly start filming before the Anniversary Special goes out. Ironically, this Confidential is almost certainly the only chance they have to reveal the casting on their own terms.

Is there any way to watch this thing without having BBC America? Like a legal streaming source or something? I checked out the "filmon" thing, but the only channel in the British section describes itself as "an international TV network providing contemporary entertainment, which reflects the black experience worldwide"

BBC One is apparently available through the service, but not if you live in America.

What's my best option? I will accept "Suffer and read GAF as the rest of us react to the broadcast" if it is the only solution.

Hm. Maybe they'll play the broadcast at the Way Station (the TARDIS bar in Brooklyn).

edit: Hmmm, I probably should have posted this in the other thread. :|

The broadcast is almost 100% guaranteed to be rubbish anyway. The Smith reveal was pretty pants. Just some music videos set to old Who footage, pontificating off Moffat and co talking about the casting, talking heads from old Doctors, RTD showing up and saying "he's going to be marvellous" (in those exact words) and then a 5 minute interview with the new man/woman.

I'm sure they'll bung in some audience participation stuff as well given that they've asked people to dress up as Who characters.

It'll all be online within ten minutes anyway, but if you can't find a way to watch live I wouldn't worry too much. There'll be a veritable 21 gun salute of press releases timed to the second they say the name on the broadcast as well.

I'm curious if they will once again trot out the footage of all of the previous doctors in their different outfits to the song "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" by the Kinks. It's like their go-to montage for reviewing previous doctors.

The Smith reveal was actually to Fall Out Boy, in a montage produced for Confidential 3x11. They just reused this with a single clip of Matt from his "first" interview at the end. Song is shite, but I always thought it was a pretty good (now grossly outdated) montage.

First of all I'm sorry for not reading through the last 7 days of this thread but I'm trying to avoid all info about the 50th and Christmas episodes.

After the announcement of the show on Sunday I thought it was time to buy the series 7 blu rays. I was put off before as I thought it was stupid that the wardrobe christmas episode wasn't part of 7.1. Then I found out that they are releasing a complete series 7 set. I was wondering though are there any extras missing on the complete set from the angel cover series 7.1 box set and the 7.2 box set?

Also I've seen that America is get a series 1-7 boxset with the first four series on blu ray. Is there any word on whether we'll be getting them in the UK? It would be a good excuse the watch them again. Thanks

Thank god the O'Dowd rumours seem to have been comprehensively invalidated - the guy hasn't demonstrated any range in his roles heretofore. I'm still holding out for damien molony - he's the best choice out of the main candidates IMO.

According to bleedingcool they'll be showing clips of the 50th anniversary episode. Might be the same footage they showed at Comic-Con. Hopefully they'll show the footage of An Adventure in Space and Time as well. No clue if it's true, obviously, but that would make it worth a watch.

That would make perfect sense in terms of promotion.

The BBC won't do it, then.

...huh. I swear I remember them doing it to the Kinks, rolling my eyes, and thinking, "Not this again."

Oh well, I guess that must have been another episode. Maybe it was the confidential for Eleventh Hour or something.

Apparently, there's going to be an announcement this Sunday about the new actor playing the Doctor.

Nothing official, though.

I ordered a few posters recently. I got a cool extra poster of the second doctor, I didn't now that it was coming. Here's a picture; what do you guys think?

Something about Clara has got me thinking....

...*thinking for a few minutes more*

Okay, so how crazy I am in the scale of one to the Master to think that Clara has potential to be a more grounded, more believable Rose than Rose ever was? Not from a love perspective, but if we think about it...Clara went into the Doctor's timestream. She has seen it all. No more explanations, no more "Doctor, what do we do" from here one. Okay, she will still be contractually obliged to ask that, but other than that, she will be able to have a real understanding of what the Doctor is and what his enemies are.

I was not exactly hyped for the next season until I know who the next Doctor will be, but now that I have realized that from Clara, there will not be too many secrets from this point on, I feel that she has the potential to be the best companion in new Doctor Who by a longshot. IF PROPERLY WRITTEN, of course. -.-

Edit: Just one example! Imagine the new, confused post-regeneration Doctor. Clara should just go and say "bah, Doctor, get over it, you have certainly had worse days" and so on and so on. Rose panicked, Amy was a child at that point, so they have nowhere near the level of confidence that Clara could have. Which, of course, could lead to a good plot, if played out properly.

OR! Daleks. I am pretty sure when the moral dilemma comes again, Clara will side with Hurt :p

I wouldn't hold your breath on any of that.

Expect zero character development and you shan't be disappointed!

God, I'd rather a 2009 specials-esque season of the doctor travelling by himself than another year with clara the way she was in season 7b. Holding off plot twists should never preclude character development like that - what a colossal oversight on Moffat's part.
