Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
Its like the Agatha Christie episode except it would have put Rowling on the same standing as Agatha Christie, so...

Checking up on it, it would have been the 2008 Christmas Special (where "The Next Doctor" happened). It was likely scrapped because of the Agatha Christie episode doing the same thing.

They go into some in The Writer's Tale. They thought the story idea was too silly, so it was abandoned. I don't think it ever got further along then a "wouldn't be cool if..." idea being kicked around.

Same here. I got incredibly tired of her due to fans of hers. I liked her well enough, being in fandom and having to constantly hear how much better Rose is than everyone else ever got disgusting after awhile.

Yeah, Rose's fans really soured me on her. I don't hate the character, but I'm sick about hearing about wonderful she is, and how she's the best companion ever and what have you.

There are fans of Rose?

Unfortunately. Most of them seem to be teenage girls who don't see that Rose is a massive bit...terly unlikable person who does things like get jealous at Sarah Jane, try to make the queen say "We are not amused" in times of crisis, and screw up time by saving her dad.

Oh, but the Doctor pines over her death SHE'S NOT DEAD! She's in a parallel universe living with her mom, dad, and a human clone of the Doctor. She probably got the best fate of any companion. Others were abandoned in the wrong time, had their memories wiped, or DIED.

Sorry, I just don't like Rose, or the fans that pine over her like she's the greatest thing ever.

You never forget your first love.

This is pretty much how I think of it. Not that I adored the shit out of her, but it was sad as hell seeing her and the Doctor on Bad Wolf Bay (the first time). She was my first companion, like Eccleston was my first Doctor.

Nostalgia aside, she isn't the best companion. But you never forget your first.

There are fans of Martha?

fixed.

There are fans of Martha. They are also known as "People who are wrong" and "Dear God, Why?" And occasionally as "Fish drowners," but that's incredibly specific.

EDIT: I will concede that it is not entirely, or even mostly, Freema Agyeman's fault. No one should ever be asked to portray the sadness of having to watch a fish drown.

I was trying to find an example of Martha being hot, I ran into these gifs instead:

The fish drowning was one of the few points in New Who I distinctly remember thinking "this is awful. This is just awful. There is nothing good about this scene."

Martha really didn't need to be along for that episode.

Also, I offer these to Fiction, since I figured, it's Who season, and she needs a mishmash avatar.

She'll be back for the anniversary, don't kid yourself.

I'm just thinking through the multi-doctor episodes - at least, those I'm familiar with. - specifically, which of such episodes also used companions from that doctor's era. I believe The Five Doctors did. And, well, Dimensions in Time did, but the less said about *that*, the better! Not sure which others did.

Of course, I'm making the assumption that the anniversary will *be* a multi-doctor episode, which is in no way guaranteed, but there's a bit of history there.

My point being that even if the character *is* back for the anniversary, it'll may well be more to place the Doctor she accompanies (Presumably Tennant, I'd be shocked if Eccleston did it) in context. And, for that matter, I doubt she'd be back unless one of her 'doctors' was also back... but then, if it is a multi-doctor story, I'd also be shocked if Tennant *wasn't* champing at the bit to be part of it!

I liked Rose up until the end of S2 and I don't care what anyone says, she was much better than Martha 'my only characterisation is I fancy the doctor but he doesn't fancy me' Surnameson.

What I hate about Martha is the idea behind her is really sound; We've had the ordinary girl who fell for The Doctor; now heres the medical student (am never sure why she can't be Doctor Jones) whose on par with him.

Unfortunatly even when Martha is running across the world she at no point uses these medical skills. The one point she does is to point out someones racist for thinking a maid isn't a Doctor (okay shes a bit more harsh - still).

Instead RTD takes this amazing and very independent woman and within three episodes. THREE! He turns her into a Doctor loving simpleton who appears to be 13 with no skills, no independent thought and generally no character of her own.

Freema wasn't great, am not sure why she got that job (did they even audition others?) but she was dreadfully mistreated and her character mishandled. RTD in the Writer's Tale says he promised her some eps (evidently she was ahem, cut short as a character) in series 4 to shine. This was suppose to be what became The Doctors Daughter - so bored of Martha was he that he created another character, removed her entirely from the central plot/characters and the writer then did this:

[ITS A FISH! IT'LL BE FINE!]

Rose is alright, just a bit annoying in series 2. They should have had just a Tate/Tennant finale in series 4 though; everyone just got in the way. I think her 'fans' (or some) end up making people more critical of her retrospectively which is a shame as in series 1 shes genuinely really good.

Its just as soon as New Earth starts shes entirely different and RTD obiously fancies the pants off Tennant so obviously any woman would turn into a bowl of uncontrollable jelly.

It does make me laugh when people complain about Moffat's women :D

This. It's all tell and no show. The show is practically begging you to believe that she's a well defined and strong character in her own right but when it comes time to put the money where the mouth is, she pretty much just swoons and screams. Off the top of my head I think she's strongest in the Family of Blood two parter, but, well, that's not saying too much and it wasn't even really written for her.

One of Martha's greatest problems in general was that the first drafts of a lot of Series 3 were written for Rose. She doesn't have as strong a development as Rose or Donna because her arc wasn't as planned, methinks. She's much better the few times she's in series 4, where her appearances were planned and prepared for better, which is telling.

A TARDIS dream team needs a woman. The reason The Doctor constantly runs off with women isn't because he's some sort of space creeper, it's because they're way more effective at being the yin to his yang. As neat as Rory/Wilf/Eleven would be, I'd probably replace Rory with Amy.

So long as they could swap out from time to time, and River never shows up, I could handle that.

Mind you, I think I speak for everyone when I say that I want to see Brian on the TARDIS.

Some form of Eleven/Donna/Wilf/Brian configuration, maybe?

Then again, might be a bit New Tricks.
