Does anyone else not give a shit about comics

I don't really enjoy the current trend of marvel and dc swarming all over tv and movies. I haven't thoroughly enjoyed a single tv show or movie. The most I can say is that they are ok.
Considering the sheer magnitude of movies being released and shows across network and cable, is swarming really the right word to use?

On TV: Flash, Arrow, Gotham, Agents of Shield, Daredevil

In movies: Cap: WS, GOTG, Avengers, Ant-Man, X-Men, Spider-Man

Anything else? Because that's relatively very little compared to how many release overall

I hate comic book fans and comic book related threads.

Yeah, they're the worst. Absolute trash.

When are they going to read real novels to enhance their critical thinking skills?
I recommend this to people every day:

I don't care about comics or TV shows with crap CGI and effects, I just watch the big movies for the special effects and only when the blu-ray comes out.

Comic books are for those interested in that sort of stuff.

I am not interested in that sort of stuff.

I like the movies tho

What sort of stuff? Because it bears repeating that comics are much bigger than just Marvel and DC and superheroes. Just like you can find a show or movie or book for every genre, comics are just as diverse

Some of the responses in this thread, it's like talking to someone who thinks video games are only Madden and Call of Duty.

Most MCU/DCU fans (and moviegoers in general) don't read the comics and are pretty ignorant about them...that's just how it is, don't see how it's some big surprise.

I sometimes read up on backstories and storylines, and have certainly enjoyed my fair share of comic-book movies and television but I don't have much interest in actually reading a comic book. (One of my brothers was a huge collector though, and I did spend some time flipping through his stuff when I was a kid)

Most people don't care about the actual comic books, just the shows/movies/cartoons/games/toys/othermiscapperal.

Take like 50 kids who love spiderman, and 1-2 would have read the comics.

Only nerds read the actual comics.

Personally I do enjoy some of them, but I haven't read that much. I've only really started this year after I watched arrow and my cousin brought some home from the library giving me some interest.

You're not alone, OP.

Zero interest in the comics. Zero interest in related games (until they actually make a decent one). Zero interest in the movies (I watched one Spiderman film and it was fucking atrocious).

*High five*

Edit: Damn, forgot about the fighting games. I kinda feel bad now.

I used to like comics very much. I was an editor for Wizard: The Comics Magazine, routinely interviewed comic creators, and wrote lots of articles about comics.

Marvel really ruined comics for me with its convoluted X-Men continuity and the spider-clone and one more day storylines. I had runs for Uncanny X-Men 94-350 and Amazing Spider-Man 240-450 and lost all interest.

I've tried to get into comics but it just didn't happen. Have no interest in super hero stuff in that format, and stuff like Fables, Preacher, Y: The Last Man held my attention longer but still I fell off. I simply don't think it's a very good medium for storytelling. And yes that is an opinion, but it's mine.

I'm not a comics fan, yet I find the whole MCU fanbase to be fucking unsufferable. Almost like the Games of Thrones fandom. I still haven't seen a single episode of the series, but I indirectly hate it because of the goddamned fandom.

So, anyways, if someone wants to get started with Marvel and DC comics, should they be ready to start reading 300+ issues far back into the 90's or something?

So you hate something cause people like it? Sounds a little childish. It's not to be mean but missing out on good stuff because there are big fan bases is lame

I find myself sighing every time I see the new Comic blockbuster covered and advertised pretty much everywhere, just in terms of how poor I find the actual films to be in general not necessarily comic books themselves - I just don't read any but I've always found comic books enjoyable when I come across them.

The films need to stop happening however.

I agree here because you actually gave it a shot and didn't like it, I'm not saying everything needs to be tried but hating something just for being popular is dumb. I am also getting sick of the movies even though I love certain characters. Feels like they are killing the market like call of duty or assassins creed by not letting any time between films

There are 3 superhero movies this year (Avengers, Ant Man, Fantastic Four). 4 in 2014 (Cap 2, TASM2, X-Men, GotG), 4 in 2013 (Man of Steel, Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man)

Compared to the number of films that release each year? 3 or 4 Marvel/DC movies a year is barely strangling the comic book movie market.

However 2016 is pretty packed to be honest. 6 Marvel/DC movies. Ahough to be fair, DC hasn't had a comic book movie since 2013, the last one being Man of Steel

However you slice it, it's still a lot in one genre or with some one continuity. I'm glad they are still doing so well but turning something from yearly to every couple of months has made me skip the theatre and wait for blu Ray or streaming. I'm glad a lot of people still enjoy them (as do I). But honestly absence does make the heart grow fonder. Look at Star Wars or Jurassic park for example

I honestly think it's the marketing and GAF hype that makes it feel so crowded. By comparison, at least 15 found footage horror movies released in 2014, going by some lists. Other genres get way more releases each year.

I've sort of lost interest in the mainstream DC and Marvel comics outside a few exceptions here and there. I still like the characters, but the stories nowadays don't catch me, and some of the recent directions they've taken characters have really alienated me (I'm thinking Wonder Woman specifically).

But I still read some indies. Mainly in trade, but I get a few singles from my LCS to help him out, stuff like Casanova, Multiversity (DC, but Morrison DC), Alan Moore's Crossed mini, and the Adventure Time comics. I honestly really enjoy the medium.

Sadly those got killed for me too. I liked the first couple. I agree though. Bad marketing can be just as detrimental

I don't read any comics, but I am interested in the heroes. Kinda wish I did read them.

I felt that way for the longest time so I just started a couple weeks back. Just pick something and start. I went with batman from the new 52 reboot and the court of owls series was great. I'm gonna keep reading it

I like the games and movies. Never gave a shit about the comics though but I did read the interesting ones people keep mentioning like The Killing Joke.
I have a friend who gets agitated every time someone mentions Nolan's Batman trilogy, he really doesn't like the fact that more people like superheroes now, despite them not knowing everything about them. I always tell him not everyone grew up reading comics and no one is claiming to be a total expert from just watching series and movies, he still doesn't accept that... Oh well.

or the biggest movie of 2014, Transformers 4!

Wait, what do you find stupid? All comics or just Marvel/DC?

Sorry for the late reply, I meant comics, I rarely find a good plot that interest me. most of them (or at least comics I was exposed to) seems shallow with overpowerd heroes and uninteresting villain.

Just my opinion of course.

I absolutely adore comics and have been reading them since I was five years old. The characters actually mean something to me. Saying that even I have to admit that OT is being flooded with comic book threads. I mean thats reflective of the demographic but it can shut down a lot of other discussion.

Superhero comics - could care less, shit is beyond stupid, "ERMEHGERD I PIERCED YOUR UNPENETRATEABLE SHIELD OF SHIELDING WITH MY ULTRAMEGADICKCANNON"

What? Superhero comics are not like that at all.

I enjoy the occasional book, but to be blunt...they're just too expensive for me to make a continuous habit out of it. Like just buying Batman, Star Wars, and a few "indie" comics runs me like 20+ a run, and when you add in the "specials" and all the tie ins and and and...yeah...

Comixology rocks though, because I love buying arcs at 50% off when I can and getting some good reading in.

This is one reason I fucking love marvel unlimited. I can catch up on old runs and read entire story arcs without paying through the nose. I wish DC had the same thing.
