Does anyone else not have sympathy for the X-Men?

One of the reasons I've never been much interested in the X-Men is cause one of the main running themes is prejudice against the mutants, and the Humanity vs. Mutants war.

But I mean... humanity has a point. Mutants are fucking dangerous. I mean, there are mutants out there with the ability to like, waste a city if they sneeze wrong or have a bad day. There are men who shoot fatal laser beams out of their eyes. People who can scramble your brain like eggs. A dude who could collapse all the metal in a skyscraper into a tiny ball.

You think people should be persecuted because they don't fit in with what society deems as normal?

Isn't X-Men these days more about how regular humans are the ones that are different and strange now?

Which is true, and I'm not blaming them.

But there's a difference between prejudice between someone who is black or gay and someone who can alter reality to their whims or summon electrical storms to fry you. One's legit dangerous.

Who cares? They can chose to be assholes with their powers later on in life so of course I'm going to be afraid of them

Yeah and what about the ones that aren't and just want to be left the fuck alone?

what makes them so great? I mean imagine having to have such a level of control all the time because otherwise you level a city or something, you can't fuck up, not even once. I don't think they'd actually be able to pull it off.

You may as well put most of America in prison then. People are keeping entire arsenal's of firearms in their homes. Little Billy knows where daddy keep his gun and steals it from time to time for play. If the government was exploiting them for their powers, say using Storm as a living weather machine or weapon then we have a debate. Everyone is potentially dangerous, doesn't mean you go all Minority Report and persecute or even lock them up. This is why Xavier made his school,. to teach them to control their powers. For every Sabertooth wrecking havoc, there is a Wolverine there to stop him. One sword keeps another in the sheath.

You're acting like every mutant is built to kill. They obviously mostly wrote in cool ones or else the comics would suck if all someone could do was turn colors.

I like thinking about how real world politicians would react to fake issues.

I feel like Obama might handle aliens better than mutants.

Are you arguing for persecution, or are you arguing for registration? Because the latter can definitely be strongly argued in favor of.

Well, registration as a minimum. I mean, I'm sure there's some great mutants out there who just wanna be normal... as well as asshats who have an axe to grind with the world, who can actually literally take a telekinetic axe to the world.

You can't blame someone for what they're born with, but I mean... some of the power of these mutants are insane. I mean, time travel? Brainwashing? Altering reality?

I agree with that, but we should maybe have a system to know which ones will destroy new york at the drop of a hat and which ones will just make their surroundings fabulous.

I think you'd need registration and classification based on threat-level.

Plenty of other superpowered beings in the MU, but mutants are singled out. Hank Pym is the real danger to society. All he does is create world ending threats and beat his wife, but he's an Avenger.

I'm not saying we should lock up all the mutants but I think the dangerous ones should have to wear some kind of identifying badge. :/

I wonder what percentage of the MU population is actually superpower-free?

Yeah you do that, you open the door to exploitation. People forcing mutants to use their powers for civic purposes, like powering electric companies or controlling the weather. Humans can't be trusted in that regard. So without a mutant council to safeguard mutants' human rights, I would have to strongly reject any suggestions to force all mutants to register.

I wish I could avatar quote myself. This is why the world needs revolutionary heroes like Scott Summers. He saw this coming. God bless his soul.

so we should probably just kill them all as soon as they're born to be on the safe side, because If 'normies' are going to exploit 'muties' then some sort of a war seems to be the inevitable result. and if no action is taken then the truly dangerous mutants could cause massive damage, even accidentally.

If there's some kid who's power is going nuclear when he sneezes I'd rather he be kept contained in a reactor powering the world instead of living next door to my house.

OP, stop it, mutants ultimately just want to be understood and coexist.

Although I do remember reading one kid who unknowingly unlocked his power and basically destroyed his whole town. In grief he hid somewhere in the mountains and the only person sent by shield that could approach him without auto dying was Wolverine. Wolverine had a nice chat with him and basically asisted with his suicide.

Story fucked me up for a while.

Omg, I think I remember this

What was the comic/arc?

What about those who just want to be accepted into society and lead a normal life ? Many wish they didn't have these powers and some choose not to use it.

You treat bad mutants the same way you treat bad humans. If they're white, give them more power. If they're not white, kill them.

One minute they're safeguarding human rights, next minute they're wearing SS uniforms and orchestrating coups.

the point is can they really guarantee they wont? if they develop a drug problem, if they become depressed, if they lose their job and their house, if they're having the worst of all possible days. Can you really say they'd never uncork that bottle?

well it's better than wearing non-ss uniforms and orchestrating coups, such snazzy outfits.

I think people should be persecuted if they sweat neurotoxins.

the muties were even normal people for awhile and they acted like it was a fate worse than death.

You know human have the same ability to destroy a city in 10 second with atomic bombs?

Give Mutants a choice: take the cure and live like any other "normal" human, or keep their power(s) and accept registration. A society with superpowered humans will never have equality, but it can strive to be as fair as possible.
