Does Doom Eternal have the greatest opening cutscene ever?

What say you gaf? Is there a more hype intro than this? Rip and tear...the slow build...hearing people crying out for your help... grabbing the shotgun and the click. Then you're fucking punced in the face by the metal. Its not as artsy as say a Blizzard opening but as far as getting you ready for the game I struggle to think of a better one.

Edit: bah. opening cinematic would probably have been a better word choice. Cutscene is old hat but you get the idea lol

I was thinking this too. The demons have some really great architects and craftsmen lol. Do they have smart pinky demons making these giant statues and awesome buildings?

"Artsy" was meant for a Blizzard opening for example. There's nothing artsy about this one. Just raw hype and testosterone.

Yeah, I know what you meant :)

Gotta admit though, Legacy of the Void's opening cinematic got me READY.

Doom Guy doesn't need all the action to pump you up though. His mere presence is foreboding.

I think that is really great, but not the greatest.

I like 2016's more because it's like two seconds of stuff and you're ripping and tearing

DOOM Eternal is the Stargate or Time Cop of DOOM games. Cool concept and great gameplay. I think the team behind it are super talented. I don’t know if that particular cutscene stood out more than anything else in the game. It was designed very well. I think Doomguy is our next Gear soldier.

"HURR DURR STORY AND LORE IN A DOOM GAME? SO BORING!"

I really enjoyed it. It produced more of a story and background than 2016, at least just enough to fill the gap and inform you of how bad things have gotten since 2016.

That being said, I don't think I'd call it the GREATEST opening cutscene ever. But I would say it's definitely one of the greats!

It's not a cinematic but the opening portion of The Last of Us was incredibly effective in getting you ready for what was ahead. That was the last one before this(and Doom 16) that really grabbed me by the balls.

I'm enjoying the expanded story. It gives me just enough context and world building. Now if they start going Kojima with 20 minute long cutscenes then I can see a problem.

They actually explain this in some later story logs.

The corrupted Sentinels. Or was it the Maykers? Anyway, the demons didn’t build the factory thing.

To me, Bayonetta still has the most badass opening of all time.

The moment you start the game, shit goes crazy and you are fighting an army of angels as you tumble down a falling clock tower. Recently did all the achievements for the PC version and man does it hold up.

Great game. One of my favorites.

2016’s intro wasnt as big or grandiose , but the shotgun reload timed with the music gave me chills, this one felt more ‘been there, done that’
Still a fun game though

Since I'm waiting for new PC parts and the RTX patch, does slayer ever get to the source of the transmission broadcasting the plea for help? Would feel a bit pointless and just for "show" otherwise. :p

Not to my knowledge and I'm half way into the game, Unless it's being saved as some kind of DLC who knows.

Fucking hyped me up like you wouldn't believe. Hearing that chick screaming "help me" and that crunchy Doom theme comes on? Chills bro.
