I'm really curious to see how the late 2010's/early 2020's media will age. Because there is no way it won't be ridiculed in the future like the embarrassment it is.

I voted depends but really can't think of many games where this was the case for me. Concord was probably the closest, but I wasn't ever really gonna buy a $40 Gaas game. But the characters were sooooo off putting, that even though I liked the beta in terms a gameplay a little bit, the characters and designs were horrific, where you could easily tell they cared more about that then making a better game.

Not to tell anyone how to live their life but some of the takes I see are insane. OP in particular talking about intergalactic. We know so fucking little about that game, to be out this early just doesn't make sense to me. Not saying the game won't be woke or filled with woke elements but it's just way too early to tell in my opinion.

I also have learned with all this woke stuff that no one really has a defined definition on it really. Another take from OP here in particular

Lara Croft is an example of a female character done properly vs some Steroid manly looking chick like Abby in TLOU2.

The problem I have with this take is there are women who look like Abby. Just go to your local gym, it's really not all that crazy. And second, the way she looks makes total sense in the way the story takes place. She lives in some military complex where they have sophisticated weight rooms/gyms and here motivation is revenge for her father. I don't view that as woke, I view that as a building a character. Wouldn't make sense to me to have her as a typical girly girl.

When I see characters like in Intergalactic it puts me in a situation I do not want to be in. I'm not down for the modern Gen Z identity politics or gender swaps. I am an old fashioned guy where a man has their place in the world and women have their place. I do not expect to see a lot of women brick layers or garbage men just like I do not expect to see a lot of men in women's spaces.
The sad fact is, I know exactly what I am going to get out of a woke game like intergalactic. It's going to be a girl boss narrative where she is better at every thing than anyone else and if there are any men involved in the game they are going to be some blue haired soy boy type. I like to play traditional stories that reflect the way I see the world or atleast a character I can believe in. It really depends. In some games woke themes are so cringe that it makes me less inclined to play, in others they are handled in natural way that does not come across as pandering and I have no problem with playing such games.

It never makes me want to play a game more - that much is pretty clear.

Like, it really depends. Something like Veilguard - assuming the game was actually good - I would've passed on because it's so heavy-handed in its messaging and so unlikeable in how the characters look and act. The Last of Us: Part II, though? A lot of people like to trot that out as an example of a woke game, but I didn't really see it - at least, nothing that was overt enough to make me cringe. The issue there was that the mechanics felt like shit and the encounter design was D-tier. Those are the sorts of issues I care about more.

Yes but at that level it's not just one person that's the issue. Unless its an indie studio those are roles that usually have some kind of oversight.
