Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Does this custom build work with Dolphinbar?
I don't have a Dolphin Bar, but I don't see why it wouldn't. It's based on the master builds and merges a lot of the fixes and new features. The latest unstable builds let me use the Wii U GCN adapter, which is a pretty recent addition, so it stands to reason that the Dolphin Bar would be compatible as well. Download it and give it a shot.

Man, this is gonna be more complicated and costly than I thought...

To rip my Wii games I need to use CleanRip.
To use CleanRip I need the Homebrew Channel.
To get the Homebrew Channel I need to use an exploit like LetterBomb.
To use LetterBomb I need a SD card.
To plug in a SD card to my PC I need a USB adapter.
To play my Wii games on PC I need a 360 controller or DolphinBar, or both.

Damn.

SD adapters are not that much. and any SD card will do you will not need alot of space

HBC using letter bomb it extremely easy.

Dolphin isn't shifting to nvidia. Can anyone help me on this? When I'm playing a game and I open the above shown window, it shows Intel for some reason. I've selected dolphin in the nvidia control panel but no go.

Use the Ishiiruka Custom Build of Dolphin and enable Full Async Shader to get rid of the black bar issue.

Although it currently has some issues with not being able to scan certain things with the scan visor.

I also recommend Ishiiruka custom build Dolphin. Its speed is better compared to the vanilla dev builds. The newer versions even have built-in cpu overclock option. I managed to run HD textured Xenoblade at 3x internal resolution & 4x SSAA at full speed with Ishiiruka.

That's normal, it's a weird Nvidia Optimus quirk. If you're running games at full speed with a highish internal resolution, you're using your GPU.
There's a Nvidia control panel notification icon that shows if you're using the GPU or not.

Got a DolphinBar recently. LTTP I know.

Anyone have any experience with it locking up Win 8.1 systems at random? It works great but unplugging it seems to have solved my lock up issues.

Thanks. I do see a few dips whenever there is a big explosion but it's pretty minor.

Played a good bit of S&P2 today with the GC controller just for fun, the game runs really better than back then as well, beautiful! Only took a screenshot at the beginning then I got absorbed in the gameplay. :D

Damn I miss Treasure.

You have the latest drivers? I had no issues with Dolphinbar but the mayflash GC adapter caused my W8.1 machine to get BSODs before I updated.

I'd still suggest staying with the Master unless you are feeling adventurous and refrain from complaining about Ishiiruka specific issues. With Fiora's cpu override option for example there appeared issues in Ishiiruka that were due to its developer not having merged the complete code by Fiora. Issues like these might go unnoticed for longer as it's the Master code everyone works with and looks at, and Ishiiruka is just a mix of old removed, hackish, and bleeding edge untested code and way fewer developers working on it.

Wait, you don't already have a SD card for your Wii? Or do you mean you need a larger capacity one to handle the rips?

I do not have one. I never needed it for my Wii and I don't own a digital camera, so I just never had to purchase a SD card.

If you have a camera that uses sd cards, just use that to plug into your computer. Or even a phone's SD card.

Letterbomb is literally 2 clicks from the Wii menu.

If you're going to use your wiimote, you can just use the IR sensor from the Wii that's plugged into your Wii. It only receives power from the Wii and that's it.

My dad has a digital camera that he never uses, so I'll see if I can use that. Thanks for the tip.

I used the brawl exploit a lot more tidy IMO and works on the latest wii OS version.

But yea the SD card thing is a bit of a pain I have a PC with a card reader so it wasn't nearly as tough for me. Also a wiimote + bluetooth works fine (and is honestly the best way) to play wii games no need for dolphin bar unless you don't have bluetooth.

I don't have bluetooth for my PC, so that's why the DolphinBar would be perfect. But I also want to play Steam games and Xenoblade with a 360 controller, so having to buy both would kinda suck. I'm leaning toward only getting a 360 controller.

Yeah, this 4GB one is only $4.95.
But for only a dollar more I can get a 8GB one.

But I'll see if I can use my dad's digital camera SD card first.

Yeah, I definitely don't recommend Ishiiruka for everything. In the specific case of Metroid Prime trilogy I would because the master build still has no way to fix the black bar glitch and reduce the heavy stuttering from shader generation, even though right now Ishiiruka has issues with the scan visor. With a game like Metroid Prime Trilogy it's just kind of a toss up.

Does anybody know why I can't quicksave/quickload anymore?
I know it's Shift F1 to safe and to load just F1 (you can choose from F1 - F9) but somehow it doesn't work anymore.
I don't know exactly when this happened but I can't do this anymore for a long time and didn't bother that much about it but after I upgraded to from 7 to 8.1 (and my gc from 560ti to G1 970 and a SSD) I can't do this on my clean installed rig too.
I did a clean start with a clean new regularly updated dev version but it still doesn't work.
I tried several different games (from MGS1 Twin Snakes to MK Double Dash to Project M 3.5) I can't do it somehow.
I even changed the keys for quick saving but it didn't changed everything.
Is that a common problem or did I do something wrong?
I really would like to know why I can't do it.

Is there any setup that would allow me to play through Skyward Sword with a controller (like a DS4?). I'm going on a trip soon and it would be fun to play through it, but it would be rather awkward to use a wiimote + nunchuck on an airplane or bus....

Trying to decide about the wireless Dolphin Bar and which one to get. I have my PC and WiiU right beside each other, is there a way to do it without confusing the wiimote?

I'll probably just order one online, but is there a workaround? I'm dying to play some Galaxy and the upscaling using the WiiU isn't looking too hot on my tv.

I usually only install the stable versions, but the newest one is over a year old. Is there an ideal dev version I should download to play Rogue Leader or just choose the most current?

Does anyone have recommended/best setings for SMG2 on the latest builds? I wanna get back into that game with my PS4 controller, but my settings give me stuttering sound.

zfreeze is still being worked on and the code is a wip so expect slowdowns, glitches, etc. Whether it's playable or not is up to you.
Download the build here (thanks to IceStrike256 for mirroring) for now as while the official pr link has a newer build, it misses the new HLE and zfreeze apparently.

Latest build should work fine if you have a reasonable rig. What are your specs?

Gotcha, well I can wait a bit longer for a finely tuned zfreeze build. Thanks for the info and prompt reply Garteal. And thanks to all those who contribute to Dolphin...much appreciated!

Anyone else have issues with audio from the Wiimote breaking up, not working, or sounding extremely crunchy? Always been like this for me. All games behave the same way.

I don't think that's possible. At least google gave me nothing. I might be wrong tho.

Google has told me that most of the game is playable, but some parts you'll need different control configurations. Plus it might not work as well because emulating the motionplus isn't perfect.

I feel like a big dummy, but I just cannot for the life of me get Xenoblade Chronicles to work. I rip it with CleanRip, transfer the files to the PC, combine the split ISO files... and it freezes after the Wii safety warning with an "Invalid Read" message :(

Why are you splitting the iso? Are you making sure to select the dual layer option? Xenoblade is a dual layer game.

I've chose dual layer but it splits it into 1, 2 or 3 GB files, depending on my choice. I really feel technologically handicapped when it comes to this stuff.

Under Chunk Size you should be able to select Max which won't split the iso at all. If you're using a single storage device then your CleanRip settings for Xenoblade should be Yes, Max, No.

so got my wiimote running but i have no sensor bar

should i buy a regular wireless one from ebay? would any sensor bar work?

Getting a Dolphin Bar is the best option, if the popular opinion is to be trusted. It works much better with Dolphin (and a PC in general) than a standard Wii sensor bar.

That's for keyboard and mouse tho. There is a bug that stops you from properly using the IR (or any emulatated Wiimote feature really) with analog sticks.

Max will still split the Iso just into 4gb chunks.

@person asking are you sure you are combining the files correctly? The easiest way is to move the files onto an empty folder on your desktop open command prompt and

type CD desktop\filename
hit enter
type copy /b *.Iso xenoblade.Iso

This should combine all the I so files in the folder into a file called xenoblade.iso

I've ripped Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M, Xenoblade and Smash Bros Brawl with CleanRip, with the instructions I provided, and never have I needed to combine any iso chunks. *shrug*

Quite literally just ripped a game set to max and it dumped them in 4GB chunks. 4GB is the largest a single file can be in Fat32 format any larger is literally impossible...

I guess if you had your drive formatted as NTFS it would be possible I remember seeing that option but most flash drives and SD cards are formatted to fat32 by default.

I THINK Cleanrip will support an NTFS drive but it's been a while. Any windows PC can format a USB drive to NTFS in a jiffy. You can just reformat back to FAT32 when you're done if needed.

copy /b isn't too bad anyway, but is very confusing the first time.

I ripped it in 1GB chunks (for no real reason). I can re-upload with higher size if it helps.

Here is a list of files that were on the SD card after ripping and the command prompt I entered. For some reason, it skipped part2.iso...

Files:

Command Prompt:
"copy/b SX4E01.part0.iso+SX4E01.part1.iso+SX4E01.part3.iso+SX4E01.part4.iso+SX4E01.part5.iso+SX4E01.part6.iso+SX4E01.part7.iso Xenoblade.iso"

Thanks for the help guys, this thread is very helpful.

So I have a pretty good system, enough that a game I want to play in Dolphin stays at 60fps. The problem is, it still chunks when moving around, as if textures havn't been loaded or something. Once everything in view is loaded, it's back to 60fps smoothness. Anyone know what's with that?

I'm using 4.0 build 5068 on Haswell Core i7 4770HQ, Iris Pro 5200. It seems plenty powerful for gamecube emulation, it's just those weird chunking issues.

Well that would explain it then. I use an SD card to load the homebrew apps and rip to an external hard drive formatted to NTFS.

It's a TON easier to just type copy /b *.iso xenoblade.iso

I was able to play the games thought steam big picture but now they just go to windowed mode. Any solutions?

Yes, fullscreen is checked

I'm going to do a playthrough of Xenoblade in Dolphin.

Anybody knowledgeable of essential tweaks, mods, or whatever?
